Patch Notes for 4.1.0.0023

New Features

  • Turn-Based Mode (Beta) - A new way to adventure in the world of Eora, Turn-Based mode is an alternate way to play and experience combat in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. This is an Open Beta feature, and we'd love to hear from our players on how this mode feels, and any issues that arise from playing it. The new game mode can be selected by starting a new game and clicking on Turn-Based Mode.

Major Fixes & Updates

  • Some instances of corrupted savegames have been resolved and can now be loaded correctly.
  • Optimized performance when targeting attacks, particularly large AoEs.
  • Fixed an issue where companion game objects were not removed if they left the party on the World Map.
  • The player will no longer be returned to the main menu on transitioning to or from Nekataka.
  • Random encounters in Neketaka are guaranteed to appear after a certain number of transitions.
  • Party Members will no longer die when the player goes below deck on the ship.
  • Characters will no longer reaching 0 HP and become invincible when affected by certain effects.

Abilities

  • General
    • 'Terrify' now contains a glossary link where applicable.
    • Attacks with extra AoEs (Citzal's Spirit Lance, Whispers of the Endless Paths) will now have correct recovery when used with attack abilities.
  • Wizard
    • Kalakoth's Freezing Rake hits only applies to Enemies as described.
    • Concelhaut's Parasitic Quarterstaff Recovery Time link has been modified and corrected.
  • Fighter
    • Black Jacket Fighters can take Rapid Recovery when leveling up.
    • Fixed an issue with description of Black Jacket ability displaying text not related to the skill.
    • Brilliant Tactician will no longer activate if there isn't an enemy present.
  • Ranger
    • Arcane Archer "Imbue" attacks will no longer show extra projectiles when used with certain weapons, such as the Hand Mortar.
  • Monk
    • Effects of Monk's "Turning Wheel" are no longer applied to damage other than melee.
    • Forbidden Fist's "Forbidden Curse" can no longer become stuck with a negative duration when used with Clarity of Agony.
  • Cipher
    • Beguiler bonus Focus will now be granted correctly if hitting multiple targets at the same time.
    • Beguiler Focus will regenerate properly.
    • Ciphers will receive focus for their first attack when attacking from stealth.
  • Priest
    • Salvation of Time can no longer be empowered, since it does not benefit from scaling.
  • Chanter
    • Prepared chants are now removed when respeccing a character.
  • Druid
    • Fixed a bug with Wall of Frost displaying 0 base penetration.
  • Items
    • Whispers of the Endless Paths' AoE Spells are no longer spamming attacks.
    • Last Word is no longer missing its statblock.

Sound Effects

  • The wings of Drakes now no longer beat at a extremely loud volume.

Visual Effects

  • Wards have VFX when disappearing.
  • VFX comes from the correct source when using Garrote.
  • The VFX from Garrote originates from the correct hand.
  • Servant of the Stars now has casting VFX.
  • Brazier VFX have been corrected in the Scriptorium
  • Memory Hoarder soul sucking VFX stops correctly if you sneak up and attack before the conversation starts.
  • Candles in Collections Lower no longer lack flame VFX.
  • VFX will no longer appear through the walls in The Enclosures.
  • The Shimmering Dreambeast now has a visual Shimmering effect to reflect its Shimmerstep ability.
  • The Shimmering Dreambeast now has a proper effect upon finishing its Strike Through Dreams ability.

Misc

  • Attribute check icons in scripted interaction success/fail banners will be the correct size.
  • Fixed issue where World Map points of interest could not be interacted with.
  • Certain conversation prerequisites will no longer be incorrectly locked or unlocked in specific circumstances.
  • News on the Main Menu no longer displays out of date information.
  • The journal will no longer display incorrect data when opened the first time after loading a save.
  • Disarming traps with multiple characters will no longer give multiple trap items.

Any ETA on the VO for Forgotten Sanctum? I'm waiting to finish up my playthrough until all the ending slides are voiced. Turn-based mode will give me plenty to do while I wait :D

So, are Beguiler Bonus damages and focus regen working as intended against afflicted targets ?

(+20% damages by default,

+30% damages with biting Whip,

+20% damages and +100% focus gain with draining whip)

 

Or is there still some kind of glitch ?

Monk
Effects of Monk's "Turning Wheel" are no longer applied to damage other than melee.

Why melee? Why not "weapon"? Now a monk who uses the Long Pain cannot profit from Turning Wheel - and Iron Wheel is not that useful for a ranged monk. Bummer!!!

Two observations so far.

 

1 - Disengagement doesn't seem to be a thing any longer in turn-based? I seem fully able to run a wounded character away from an enemy without him taking a free swing. That can't be right?

 

2 - Duration for abilities can be strange, I had a priest that acted at the end of the round, dropped her Sunbeam spell, and flanked/blinded the target. And then the round ended and those debuffs fell off. Maybe duration should end at the same initiative number in the next round as they started in the previous round?

I'm playing real-time with pause, but now for some reason the keyboard shortcuts for increasing and decreasing combat speed do not work. I can change combat speed by dragging the needle with the mouse, but this is unfortunately quite tedious, I'm used to changing it up and down all the time and this has unfortunately made the game quite unplayable for me at the moment. Occasionally, the needle indicates the wrong combat speed as well. Is there any way to revert to the previous version on Steam?

Maia's quest is still bugged if you botch her missives (letting the stalker alone) I'm still getting the bad ending of Por Maje :(

It seems I was a bit hasty, the keyboard shortcuts still work, but the indicator needle does not move in response. Still kinda annoying, but should hopefully be easy to fix.

Why is .23 not on the GOG beta channel?  You know, GOG has a beta channel just like Steam.  It works fine as far as I can see.  I'd love to test the beta (since I have finished D: OS and D: OS 2) and could possibly supply some useful information.

 

Never mind! Coming through on the GOG beta channel now!  Thanks! (Actually, I have GOG setup to deliver the latest patch, whether beta or normal release.)

I played a little of TFS today and Ydwin's lines were voiced so I guess it means so are narrator's :)

AFAIK it's a randomized outcome for Port Maje stalker.

Really loving turn-based mode so far. Was afraid it would turn into a slog, but that's far from the case early game when upkeep is low. Only issue I've run into is when using stealth and pausing rapidly while attempting to engage an enemy. You can prevent the start-of-combat trigger and break enemy AI, preventing them from doing anything.

Hello all! This fix was implemented into this patch but we missed it in the notes, so the following is has been included:

 

  • Forbidden Fist's "Forbidden Curse" can no longer become stuck with a negative duration when used with Clarity of Agony.

I had started testing Beguiler again a week or so ago to re-evaluate it and it's working as intended. It was just a tooltip issue, stemming I suspect from the Soul Whip bonus being split in two.

Any word on the "boarding combats not dropping unique loot" and/or the "boarding combats opening with five seconds of combat before you can control your party" bugs?

Did this patch receive some major optimization? The game runs so far shockingly well. I even tuned up some graphical option without a dip in the framerate.
