  1. My botched backup of the Steam folder may also have eaten all my FO:NV saves... Looks like I get an "opportunity" to replay most of the game (and DLC's) without having completed the game yet (despite being 150+ hours into it).
  2. Well I wasn't expecting that. The world of Ferelden? If I remember DA:O correctly, Ferelden was a small insignificant country in the corner of the map of a setting called Thedas (The Dragon Age Setting)
  3. Just speaking for myself, not anybody else, but I think it's very unlikely. The rights to develop games for the franchise currently rests with Red Eagle Games (not sure if that's the exact name) and the only serious attempt they've made so far to realise a WoT game was a kickstarter for tactical combat games for mobile phones or some such. The cancelled the kickstarter 4 days prematurely having achieved nothing even remotely close to their target.
  4. Seems like the immaturity outweighs the maturity in responses by a scary degree... might be a good idea to take a timeout.
  5. Yes, it sounds bitter Maybe add some constructive feedback on the appropriate community boards? As far as I know, they make no secret of to do some degree being driven by fan feedback. It might make a difference for DA3. Edit: Let's try to stick to the topic. Bashing Bioware gets tiresome to listen to.
  6. Would that even work in the first place? I don't know It would probably result in a bulky elf or a tall dwarf.
  7. Yeah, Obsidian has gone through some rounds of layoffs too over the years. Never pleasant. Doesn't mean the people still working there aren't smart.
  8. I would bet a virtual six pack of beer that they are going to use Onyx for a number of reasons. It's internally developed and supported, it seems stable and they have experience with it and its tool sets already. Dungeon Siege III runs on it, as does the current in development South Park game. Two very different types of games, both visually and game mechanics wise. At least seen from the outside, it looks like an obvious choice.
  9. Yeah, the project is already two days old. Slackers...
  10. Thread pruned a bit. There is a subtle but important difference between being funny and just trying to be provocative.
  11. Yeah, lets not get started on member numbers... Sadly I missed the train. Used to lurk a lot on the Interplay forums the last year of BIS' existence, but I never saw the original BIS boards (other than on the internet wayback machine). When I had gathered enough courage to register, BIS got closed the day before, so I didn't bother.
  12. Moved to correct forum. I don't think you are alone in asking the question though.
  13. From the bold faced part on the Kickstarter page: "Project Eternity is an isometric, party-based RPG set in a new fantasy world developed by Obsidian Entertainment." Highlight by me. Sort of implies that the game is going to be isometric rather than acrobatic camera movements.
  14. Would a child of a "mixed marriage" elf and dwarf be considered a half-elf or a half-dwarf? I think it adds a lot of complications to the game without adding much. It makes sense in some strategy games (like the Paradox games or some old KOEI games) where dynasties are important. In a crpg it would most likely require you to give up adventuring, settle down, build a cottage and do honest work for a living.
  15. Why does the name "Sarah Palin" always pop up in my mind when I hear "tea-party"?
  16. I never completed Temple of Elemental Evil, but I liked how they handled in-game avatars and their equipment. I suspect Eternity is aiming for similar (speculation on my part based on what little info is there), with 3D models on a 2D background.
  17. He may have come across as a bit "obnoxious" to some because of his occasional stubbornnes, but the guy had a heart of gold and put a lot of time and effort into helping people, searching for links, tutorials, info etc. regardless of whether it was for an old timer or a newbie. Oh, and he wasn't afraid of changing his mind either, never mind how hard he may have argued the opposite view before. I remember how upset he was when Bethesda announced they were going to make Fallout 3 and how he wished Obsidian would get a shot at the franchise some day (and I think he passed away before FO:NV was announced, so he never knew that it was going to happen).
  18. I think what you saw in Kotor2 was really only the "baby steps" of where Obsidian wanted to go with reactivity and influence. Stuff went overboard in Alpha Protocol (although the game suffered from other issues that makes it a game you either love or hate), and Fallout New Vegas did a decent job of integrating it into the gameplay itself (influence gained by your actions rather than dialogue). I'm fairly confident that a great deal of effort is going to be put into those mechanisms in their "own" game. Just my 0.25$
  19. It's a hybrid between IWD, BG2 and PS:T. I loved the setting, the atmosphere the artwork and the music of PS:T. But probably the companions most of all. I loved the sheer scope and scale of BG2, the variety (real or perceived) of areas and archetypes that you ran into. I loved the set pieces, the encounter design and most of the things from PS:T sans the companions in IWD. Having to design your whole party felt a little "odd" at first, but it grows on you when you get used to it.
  20. TSLRCM is great played through twice with it installed as a male brianna (handmaiden) and Visas are romanceable, as female atton and disciple are although the are undercurrents with bao dur. I just finished my first game yesterday. Damn you Mira, I'm not too old. I guess VIsas is my "second choice" after Mira, Handmaiden never really being my thing I'm not good at playing female characters. I tried it once and didn't "respond" to any of the romances. A flaw that is mine, not the game.
  21. I'm not opposed to the idea. I don't think the individual Bioware writers and designers have "lost their skill" over the years, but I do think that their corporate goals imposes limitations on what they are allowed to do, resulting in products that may be at odds with what people here would like to see. Would be interesting to see what they could come up with if "unshackled". I for one enjoyed both BG2 and BG1 (when I finally got around to play it years later). Edit: I thought of master Wade (the smith) in DA:O as a cry for help with his "they don't let me make any quality anymore" dialogues.
  22. Quoted for truth. I think they underestimated the initial response and got caught a bit with their pants down. They do need to get the marketing up and running and that pretty soon. Exactly. I've only followed a few Kickstarters, but they all followed a pattern of large initial burst followed by a long, almost "flatlined" curve with slow but steady trickle of pledges followed by the last 24 hour burst which was even larger than the initial burst. 3-5 million would be nice, but I think the cautious optimists hope for 3, yet prepare for less.
  23. At the risk of sounding like a false dichotomy, isn't the number of companions a choice between quantity and quality, especially on a tight budget? PS:T had 7 companions of which you could have 5 in your party. I sure enjoyed their company a lot more than the 16 or so I had to chose from in BG1 (which I considered expendable because they were relatively "shallow"). As for races, I don't mind if something like Dwarves exists (not just to escape Volourns wrath), as long as elves are truly extinct and relegated to myth and pictures in lore books. Of course, they could chose to make dwarves short, burly, yet effeminate (think 16th centuries noblemen with lace and everything) magic users. Now that would upset a few.
  24. I was just about to mention Fallout damn you It was put to use exactly once if I remember correctly ("red ryder" or some such).
