Chris Avellone: We'll most likely not be using Onyx engine
Now what was the name of that dedicated isometric engine that this guy kept supporting a thread for in the general gaming section... Fife?

That bites. I did a whole back up/manual porting over of all the folders (not just the backup utility) and it worked ok - Steam just ran some quick checks for each game but I didn't have to reinstall them again. Did you back up the saves in the Documents folder? Also...only 3 more hours to a bazillion guns... Yeah, I still have the original C: drive, but all there is in the Documents and Settings folders for FO:NV is a list of installed DLC's, no saves. I feel a bit peevish over that, but hey, I get to replay the game. I would just have loved to try Lonesome Road and the last battle for Hoover Dam bit before replaying it

All I can say is... Never thought about the middleware cost (apparently that's not a one off expense). Maybe that s part of what prevented Fargo from considering it. It sucks big time that they are going to depend on external tech and support though.

I stream single player RPGs in no death rulesets. My thoughts on KOTOR 2 & New Vegas.
Yeah, that was one of two times I was about to give up on the game. The second time I actually did give up, but that's a different story. The Little Lamplight designer should have his game designer license revoked.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS!
Well I wasn't expecting that. The world of Ferelden? If I remember DA:O correctly, Ferelden was a small insignificant country in the corner of the map of a setting called Thedas (The Dragon Age Setting)

Wheel of time
Just speaking for myself, not anybody else, but I think it's very unlikely. The rights to develop games for the franchise currently rests with Red Eagle Games (not sure if that's the exact name) and the only serious attempt they've made so far to realise a WoT game was a kickstarter for tactical combat games for mobile phones or some such. The cancelled the kickstarter 4 days prematurely having achieved nothing even remotely close to their target.

Bring in BioWare or Other Legendary Designers as Stretch Goal
Seems like the immaturity outweighs the maturity in responses by a scary degree... might be a good idea to take a timeout.

Bring in BioWare or Other Legendary Designers as Stretch Goal
Yes, it sounds bitter Maybe add some constructive feedback on the appropriate community boards? As far as I know, they make no secret of to do some degree being driven by fan feedback. It might make a difference for DA3. Edit: Let's try to stick to the topic. Bashing Bioware gets tiresome to listen to.

What if we could have a child?
Would that even work in the first place? I don't know It would probably result in a bulky elf or a tall dwarf.

Yeah, Obsidian has gone through some rounds of layoffs too over the years. Never pleasant. Doesn't mean the people still working there aren't smart.

Hey Devs, don't want to be pushy or anything...
I would bet a virtual six pack of beer that they are going to use Onyx for a number of reasons. It's internally developed and supported, it seems stable and they have experience with it and its tool sets already. Dungeon Siege III runs on it, as does the current in development South Park game. Two very different types of games, both visually and game mechanics wise. At least seen from the outside, it looks like an obvious choice.

Yeah, the project is already two days old. Slackers...

Female character designs - let's have variety.
Thread pruned a bit. There is a subtle but important difference between being funny and just trying to be provocative.

The Old Guard Roll Call
Yeah, lets not get started on member numbers... Sadly I missed the train. Used to lurk a lot on the Interplay forums the last year of BIS' existence, but I never saw the original BIS boards (other than on the internet wayback machine). When I had gathered enough courage to register, BIS got closed the day before, so I didn't bother.

About Eternity
Moved to correct forum. I don't think you are alone in asking the question though.

What if we could have a child?
Would a child of a "mixed marriage" elf and dwarf be considered a half-elf or a half-dwarf? I think it adds a lot of complications to the game without adding much. It makes sense in some strategy games (like the Paradox games or some old KOEI games) where dynasties are important. In a crpg it would most likely require you to give up adventuring, settle down, build a cottage and do honest work for a living.

Petition to include tea-parties with player housing!
Why does the name "Sarah Palin" always pop up in my mind when I hear "tea-party"?
- Playing dress-up is really important to me

Judge Hades Character
He may have come across as a bit "obnoxious" to some because of his occasional stubbornnes, but the guy had a heart of gold and put a lot of time and effort into helping people, searching for links, tutorials, info etc. regardless of whether it was for an old timer or a newbie. Oh, and he wasn't afraid of changing his mind either, never mind how hard he may have argued the opposite view before. I remember how upset he was when Bethesda announced they were going to make Fallout 3 and how he wished Obsidian would get a shot at the franchise some day (and I think he passed away before FO:NV was announced, so he never knew that it was going to happen).

Two things from KotOR 2 that I would like to see
I think what you saw in Kotor2 was really only the "baby steps" of where Obsidian wanted to go with reactivity and influence. Stuff went overboard in Alpha Protocol (although the game suffered from other issues that makes it a game you either love or hate), and Fallout New Vegas did a decent job of integrating it into the gameplay itself (influence gained by your actions rather than dialogue). I'm fairly confident that a great deal of effort is going to be put into those mechanisms in their "own" game. Just my 0.25$

Which game hook brought you to Project Eternity and interests you the most?
It's a hybrid between IWD, BG2 and PS:T. I loved the setting, the atmosphere the artwork and the music of PS:T. But probably the companions most of all. I loved the sheer scope and scale of BG2, the variety (real or perceived) of areas and archetypes that you ran into. I loved the set pieces, the encounter design and most of the things from PS:T sans the companions in IWD. Having to design your whole party felt a little "odd" at first, but it grows on you when you get used to it.
