  1. It's an old-skool take on early cyberpunk, so it's more crunchy than the later stuff. In the RPG (PnP) you had some genuinely cool character builds and the setting was pretty cool. The closest thing I've played was an old thing on my Commodore Amiga a few lifetimes ago called "Bloodnet". Featuring Vampires and cyberpunky stuff. Fun game, even if it kicked my butt with stupid encounters I couldn't win in time. Always regretted not finishing it. Had some fancy (for its time) crafting options (called "Jury Rigging" or some such)
  2. Falling stout bubbles explained One of the great mysteries of the universe explained... why bubbles in stout are sinking rather than floating to the top. "Irish mathematicians may have solved the mystery of why bubbles in stout beers such as Guinness sink"
  3. Google translate is your friend...
  4. Damn doomsday preachers!... tossing out the old liver and getting a new one isn't an option I suppose? Sort of a sharp reminder to enjoy every day to the fullest and not take tomorrow for granted. Even if/when they give you your years back, it never hurts to spend more time being happy than being grumpy. Mate, still hoping for the best
  5. Ugh. I hate to say that things were better in the days of old, but things like this forces me to draw such conclusions... It must be a mistake. I didn't spot a single roleplaying game on the list. It's all mmo or fighting/beat-em up games I suddenly feel all warm and fuzzy for having supported Wasteland 2.
  6. I'm sure the Kiwis are going to be excited that you remembered to include them in the congratulations Joking aside, it is an interesting project. I normally don't follow the news on observations (damn peeping toms), but when a project gets ambitious enough in scale, you know somebody somewhere is serious about taking a look at something. Knowledge of the universe is key to "conquering" it.
  7. My PC is not primarily a gaming machine (I dabble a bit in 3d landscape creation and animation)
  8. As somebody who couldn't develop a shader to save his life, I wonder how much of a deterrent the multitude of pc configurations is for publishers, since they are (in theory) the ones who's supposed to do aftersale support when people can't get their purchases running.
  9. If the EU is going to crash and burn anyway, does it matter in the long term? Another gem, shamelessly borrowed from BBC: "As Commission Regulation (EC) 2257/94 puts it, bananas must be "free from malformation or abnormal curvature". In the case of "Extra class" bananas, there is no wiggle room, but Class 1 bananas can have "slight defects of shape", and Class 2 bananas can have full-on "defects of shape". No attempt is made to define "abnormal curvature" in the case of bananas, which must lead to lots of arguments. Contrast the case of cucumbers (Commission Regulation (EEC) No 1677/88), where Class I and "Extra class" cucumbers are allowed a bend of 10mm per 10cm of length. Class II cucumbers can bend twice as much." How are people supposed to standardise Bananas and Cucumbers without the the EU? What is the loss of sovereignty compared to such benefits???
  10. Robot Fish to patrol harbours and shallow water for polluters... Something Fishy this way comes... "One they've sniffed out a problem, the fish use artificial intelligence to hunt down the source of pollution. They can work alone or in a team, communicating with each other using acoustic signals and they can continuously report back to the port." I wonder when the first armoured and torpedo equipped robot whale is being launched to fight whaling?
  11. What? On 2k's website, it's classified as 'shooter' You do know that there are two (2) XCOM games, right? The one from 2K Marine (shooter), and the one from Firaxis (TB strategy). Well, I checked out the one on the website that was linked to in the post I quoted. That's sort of the point of providing a link, isn't it?
  12. http://www2.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?adp=0&aid=59305&agid=1601&apop=1 ? Pretty close. Supports my current CPU and everything else by the look of it. Unfortunately I'm more or less broke until around October, so I'm just daydreaming a bit
  13. What? On 2k's website, it's classified as 'shooter'
  14. *Sigh* at least they aren't shy about what they are doing. They already put it in the "shooter" department in their games line up. I think I'll to support the Carmageddon Kickstarter. At least they put serious effort into staying true to the original.
  15. An oldie but goodie. Entirely possible that is has been posted some previous year... Bergen Linux User Group implemented CPIP network communication following RFC 1149 back in 2001. 16. Yeah, they've gotten a bit slack this last decade Nokias impact on economy 2001 Back in 2001, they made up 3.3% of the GDP and 25% of Finlands export (not sure what "32 percent in relation to volume of exports" means).
  17. I don't know if I would call it "opportunistic" because it sounds so negative, but in some ways it is. The better question to ask is "why" they haven't done anything of note in recent years. Brian Fargo, Obsidian, probably a lot of small and medium sized developers will tell you pretty much the same thing as in the W2 kickstarter video about game pitching. Those with the money to fund it will tell you to change it into something completely unrelated to what you really want to do or outright forget about it
  18. I just couldn't imagine buying a ready made desktop pc Which reminds me, I really could use a new motherboard some day that supports 32gb of ram
  19. That would make Microsoft the de facto owner of Finland, wouldn't it?
  20. Still playing Warlock - Master of the Arcane... Eliminated my first opponent and made a dent on the second opponents domain. Lots of glee involved as he started out being a bully and making absurd demands (which I rejected), resulting in him declaring war on me on a most inconvenient time. Paynback's a bitch, now he's begging for mercy Also got rid of a duo of fire elementals that had made my life miserable for large parts of the game. Having discovered portals, I'm sort of wondering if I should go investigating what's on the other side of the doorways.
  21. ...all they need now is the local Star Trek convention boarding the carriage
  22. Somebody needs to tell that marketing guy that "South Park: The Game" is called "South Park: The Stick of Truth".
  23. I wonder how close/far from the mark the NPD sales figures were. 330000 sold copies (for pc and consoles combined) doesn't sound like a lot for the level of ambition and investment put into the game..
  24. I can recommend trying out the demo. Unlike some games, this one gives a fair indication of what to expect. I can't find a demo in my usual places, where do you get a demo? I downloaded it from Steam. That was before the game got released. It's still there though http://store.steampowered.com/app/203630/?snr=1_7_suggest__13
  25. The Hexagon? Aka, 'Hex'? Aka the holy symbol of true wargamers
