Civ
Heh, my first Paradox purchase was the original Victoria from the bargain bin in a store. Paid $5 for it. Took a long time to get the hang of it. The EU games are masterpieces of userfriendliness and polish compared to that first experience Never tried EU2 or earlier, nor the CK games before Tig's enthusiasm for CK2 rubbed off, so I don't know what they were like. Rule #1 when playing EUIII is to disable lucky nations. Otherwise you end up speaking French before you can say "Pardonnez Moi?" My first experience with EUIII (before the NA expansion) was quite positive. Only major turnoff was the very clunky merchant system (no auto send merchants to markets). Bought that one and EUIII: Rome as physical boxes at full price. Loved both despite their quirks. ...and yes, I also bought Magicka, Dungeon Defenders and Warlock - Master of the Arcane. The humour of the former two appeals to me and Warlock is a very neat little strategy/empire building game.

Civ
I haven't played MM since it was released for vanilla EU3 or some such a long time ago. At least I think it was the mod. In it's current form, I doubt it adds significantly to the game. Not saying it doesn't add value, but the game with expansions is already pretty darn good. Only thing from top of my head in really dire need of reworking is naval combat. Seriously, a sea battle taking 6 months of constant mutual shelling to resolve? I know artillery wasn't quite as good in the past, but seriously. Not sure where the Magicka hate comes from. The game is awesome. So is Victoria 2, Crusader Kings 2 and Hearts of Iron III.

BREAKING NEWS: ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE UNLEASHED IN FLORIDA
Maybe the male North American Face-Eater gets all territorial during breeding season?

What are you playing now?
Playing a bit of Trine 2 to take a break from Warlock - Master of the Arcane. It's like the guys making the game went completely overboard with the eyecandy, but I don't mind.

New Humble Indie Bundle - Psychonauts, Bastion, Amnesia, LIMBO
That's how I understood it too. Most bundles so far has offered either direct download and Steam/Other keys and some larger files a torrent option seeded by Humble Bundle.

What are you playing now?
Still playing a bit of Warlock - Master of the Arcane. One of my better investments

New Humble Indie Bundle - Psychonauts, Bastion, Amnesia, LIMBO
Because they do have an overhead per transaction. If you already have most of the games, at least donate some more to the charities (besides what you feel like paying for the one or two games you don't have), just so they don't actually have an expense on what is essentially a gesture of trust. Oh, and I see Krezack already beat me to it...

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!
Didn't LA whine that KotOR 2 was too dark for the regular SW feel? Probably the same guys who were in denial about Han shooting first.

BREAKING NEWS: ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE UNLEASHED IN FLORIDA
There is still a way to go from hating them to defacing them (bad pun). So, the stuff the guy was high on is apparantly something unusual. Reminds me a bit of that old 80's trash movie, Return of the Living dead. Except that stuff came in barrels.

New Humble Indie Bundle - Psychonauts, Bastion, Amnesia, LIMBO
Since I've got allmost all the previous ones (except one that was all smart phone apps), I might just get this one. Not at least because this time I only have one of the games already. And yeah, don't be a cheapskate, if necessary give more to the charity part.

Cyberpunk 2020 by CD Projekt
It's an old-skool take on early cyberpunk, so it's more crunchy than the later stuff. In the RPG (PnP) you had some genuinely cool character builds and the setting was pretty cool. The closest thing I've played was an old thing on my Commodore Amiga a few lifetimes ago called "Bloodnet". Featuring Vampires and cyberpunky stuff. Fun game, even if it kicked my butt with stupid encounters I couldn't win in time. Always regretted not finishing it. Had some fancy (for its time) crafting options (called "Jury Rigging" or some such)

Falling stout bubbles explained One of the great mysteries of the universe explained... why bubbles in stout are sinking rather than floating to the top. "Irish mathematicians may have solved the mystery of why bubbles in stout beers such as Guinness sink"

What you did today
Damn doomsday preachers!... tossing out the old liver and getting a new one isn't an option I suppose? Sort of a sharp reminder to enjoy every day to the fullest and not take tomorrow for granted. Even if/when they give you your years back, it never hurts to spend more time being happy than being grumpy. Mate, still hoping for the best

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!
Ugh. I hate to say that things were better in the days of old, but things like this forces me to draw such conclusions... It must be a mistake. I didn't spot a single roleplaying game on the list. It's all mmo or fighting/beat-em up games I suddenly feel all warm and fuzzy for having supported Wasteland 2.

South Africa wins the SKA! And so does Australia.
I'm sure the Kiwis are going to be excited that you remembered to include them in the congratulations Joking aside, it is an interesting project. I normally don't follow the news on observations (damn peeping toms), but when a project gets ambitious enough in scale, you know somebody somewhere is serious about taking a look at something. Knowledge of the universe is key to "conquering" it.

It's upgrade time
My PC is not primarily a gaming machine (I dabble a bit in 3d landscape creation and animation)

Layoff hits Obsidian?
As somebody who couldn't develop a shader to save his life, I wonder how much of a deterrent the multitude of pc configurations is for publishers, since they are (in theory) the ones who's supposed to do aftersale support when people can't get their purchases running.

The Joy of Human Rights - The EU Way..
If the EU is going to crash and burn anyway, does it matter in the long term? Another gem, shamelessly borrowed from BBC: "As Commission Regulation (EC) 2257/94 puts it, bananas must be "free from malformation or abnormal curvature". In the case of "Extra class" bananas, there is no wiggle room, but Class 1 bananas can have "slight defects of shape", and Class 2 bananas can have full-on "defects of shape". No attempt is made to define "abnormal curvature" in the case of bananas, which must lead to lots of arguments. Contrast the case of cucumbers (Commission Regulation (EEC) No 1677/88), where Class I and "Extra class" cucumbers are allowed a bend of 10mm per 10cm of length. Class II cucumbers can bend twice as much." How are people supposed to standardise Bananas and Cucumbers without the the EU? What is the loss of sovereignty compared to such benefits???
