Erhh, the internet was created by the military to ensure world domination in case of a nuclear war (or at least ensure your military was resilient enough to retaliate before the end), not to facilitate free speech. Edit to add: ...and I believe you can't hand out "freedom" like it was some kind of candy and expect people to appreciate, much less respect the responsibility that comes with something not earned.

I doubt you could even if you wanted to, mate, you simply don't know how to My objection is really to the notion that what happens on the net should somehow be exempt from the same laws and code of conduct that would apply if you were having a meeting/conversation in cafe, on a street corner or the local town square, trying to rally people for some cause. Some people seem to revel in the idea of "unrestricted" freedom (read; lack of accountability).
  3. You sort of have that already. Despite assurances of the opposite, there are things you can't say in public. There are things you can't print on paper and there are things you can't say on TV. Why should the internet be any different?
  4. Those two things seems to bring out the worst in people. Funny how many people insist that "Freedom" is the freedom to take whatever they want, do whatever they want and insult whoever they want without being held accountable. Might take a few decades yet.

    Saw two games that might interest me some day. Anybody tried Prototype 2? Is it any good? Looking for a shooter that isn't too hard and a story that would make me bother actually finishing it (the two "Watchmen: The end is Nigh" games got it right for my taste). Might wait until it gets down a bit in price. The other one was Legends of Pegasus. Starving for a decent 4x game. Looks interesting, but unfortunately the blurb just states "mixes real-time and turn-based strategy". If it's just another RTS, I think I'll pass.

  7. Every time this subject comes up (discussions about sexual orientation in the US), I keep thinking of this particular Scandinavia and The World comic. Maybe I'm just an ignorant because I couldn't care less about peoples sexuality, as long as they are not "in your face" about it. Goes for all orientations.

  11. No? He outright said that they broke a lot of the D&D rules stuff to make the mechanics and narrative they had in mind work. Disclaimer: Entirely possible that my memory is fuzzy and I remember it wrong. I do seem to remember an old interview where MCA discussed them breaking a lot of conventions (i.e. traditions, not rules) by deliberately designing a game where the protagonist would never have a sword, no armour, dieing wasn't the end of the game etc.

    I wouldn't want the game to fail because it doesn't meet my expectations. On the other hand, I wouldn't want it to succeed on false expectations from those who grew up with the originals either. I did a bit of the legwork and read the linked to posts and the media. I don't understand the point of re-releasing a game if all you do is taking away from it? Adding explosions, confusing "jump all over the place Michael Bay camera" doesn't make up for the lack of good tactical displays, "interactive" environment that you can use or destroy if necessary, basically most features besides TB that made x-com games what they were. It's possible those things are going to be there, but then they've made the mistake (IMHO) of not emphasizing those features. As I said, not a desire to see it fail. Just my own fail to see the point.

    If anything, Apocalypse had way superior base management and an actual, functional economy (not really, but it gave the illusion of it). You had to build new bases in different parts of town to better your response time to threats or the various factions would start lose faith in you. They could go from liking you to hating you to declaring outright war on you (when they weren't busy warring amongst themselves), it was almost sims like the way they would go about their lives. If they hate you, you can no longer buy their equipment and they will generally attack you on sight. Forget about that engine upgrade for your jet fighters...

    They talk the talk. Unfortunately trying the 'alpha' demo is only an option if you pre-order the game. Sort of a catch 22 Recent violence against X-Com and Jagged Alliance has left me with very little expectations. If the Carmageddon Reincarnation project fizzles, then it is indeed time to build a mausoleum for great games

    If it wasn't because I had gotten SR3 dirt cheap ($8 or so?) on a previous heavy discount sale, I would have felt robbed. Haven't managed to get it to run properly yet because the stupid piece of software zealously insists that my Saitek 52 Pro flight stick and throttle is an xbox game pad and will not let me use mouse and keyboard only as controls. Stupid, stupid stupid!... >_ No, I'm not going to unplug and replug my hardware just for playing one game.

    Start of old thread End of old thread Hmm, have only bought a few DLC's during this sale. Maybe I've just got the games I want or they don't release that many "interesting" games lately. Most of my purchases the last few months seems to have been either Gamersgate or Gamersgate games redeemed on Steam.

  24. FO:NV - Lonesome Road Mostly liking it so far. Has a nice 3d "feel" to it unlike all the flatness of FO3 and FO3:NV. Spending a lot of time just traveling around, exploring every nook and cranny, falling off cliff sides, experiencing the novelty of getting killed by a mantis (when did they get this big???). While the landscape is interesting enough and so is Joshua and Daniel to a degree, I just can't get myself interested enough in the plight of the Sorrows and Dead Horses to feel really motivated to go the extra mile for them.Damn hippies, learn how to use a missile launcher dammit >_ I've found 5 out of 6 duffel bags belonging to the survivalist (great little side story btw.). No clue which one I might have missed. Also wondering if any of the Vault 22 dwellers survived. Got a bit of a giggle out of meeting the spore plants. Brought back memories of Fallout 2.
  25. Moved to gaming section. Read a bit of the text. Got too painful to read about the point where he whinges about his low level character getting killed by cazadores. Some people are just starved for attention.
