  1. Thanks for posting that it was very interesting. It looks like they have picked up a few things from Valkyria chronicles with regards to troop types. I also think that having one base might actually be a good thing. It was not too difficult to overwhelm the aliens by having a lot of research and engineering running at the same time on different bases. I think having to make real choices between what you can research and build will not only make it better and harder , but also balance things up from the other direction as well. IE not overwhelming a new player with having to run multiple bases.
  2. You can't really compete with nostalgia. I think people are missing the bigger picture here though and I agree with what you said eariler. If the game does not sell , then it just confirms what developers think about TB games being over.
  3. Civ V was a big step back from Civ IV, as far as empire building is concerned. The first Civ game I've regretted buying. Isn't the bigger picture do you want to see more games of this type or not ?
  4. Well the last non Japanese TB game I played was Rainbow Moon. But you would have to go back to 40K on the PSP for one that got a general release. The only thing I find with big buget TB games is the bells and whistles while nice at first tend to make them a drag after a while.
  5. to you, yeah. but I'm with Gorth on this one, they removed one thing I liked the most about XCom - base management. and with it, I assume, the financing from different countries depending on your performance over their territories. there was something special about building different bases in different parts of the world, making sure they were run efficiently and defending them from aliens. that's the main reason I never tried Apocalypse. it was too different from the original, while some may say it was better in many instances Seems there are two of them , one appears to have disapeared into sometime 2014 though. This is the product description for the one I was looking at. Just to be sure we are on the same page. Product Description XCOM: Enemy Unknown will place you in control of a secret paramilitary organisation called XCOM. As the XCOM commander, you will defend against a terrifying global alien invasion by managing resources, advancing technologies, and overseeing combat strategies and individual unit tactics. The original X-COM is widely regarded as one of the best games ever made and has now been re-imagined by the strategy experts at Firaxis Games. XCOM: Enemy Unknown will expand on that legacy with an entirely new invasion story, enemies and technologies to fight aliens and defend Earth. You will control the fate of the human race through researching alien technologies, creating and managing a fully operational base, planning combat missions and controlling soldier movement in battle. Key Features Strategy Evolved: XCOM: Enemy Unknown couples tactical turn-based gameplay with incredible action sequences and on-the-ground combat. Strategic Base: Recruit, customise and grow unique soldiers and manage your personnel. Detect and intercept the alien threat as you build and expand your XCOM headquarters. Tactical Combat: Direct soldier squads in turn-based ground battles and deploy air units such as the Interceptor and Skyranger. Worldwide Threat: Combat spans the globe as the XCOM team engages in over 70 unique missions, interacting and negotiating with governments around the world.

  7. Just looking through Amazon and I came across a new version to be released in October.
  8. Some further info. The level cap is 80 for the quest part of the game and 999 overall. At a certain point the game becomes completely non linear letting you go anywhere in the world. Nothing scales so you still have to be able to survive it....
  9. Odd I can't find him. Did you upload your stats ? Maybe thats why he's not showing up for me.
  10. Came out yesterday in the US and last week in the EU not sure about Asia but yesterday too I think. Concerning that NPC that sells you pearls for real money he does not appear to be in the EU version of the game.
  11. While the AI is not stellar it will get better as you face different things later. Because they obey rules like not moving through each other, the crowded battlefield is often a disadvantage as does blocking them with bags. Once they start to get skills that will hit at range, things will change a bit. Also those bags that drop , you get a higher chance of items if you pick them up in the battle rather than wait until afterwards. This introduces a further element of risk in addition to needed to get characters killing blows for rainbow pearls so they don't fall behind to the point of becoming useless. Basically the further you get into the game the more and varying skills you get. Initially it's very slow. I brought that up on the RM boards but they said it's intentional to ease people into the game.
  12. Everything has a chance to drop one of four things with varying rarity. These are either to sell , used in enhancing your equipment or part of side quests. In addition you can find things in chests and bags or hidden around the map.
  13. Are you playing on hard? I am. The game is incredibly grindy in the beginningI section, Icould barely survive fights with 2 monsters. Grinding was basically my only option* to survive two battles in a row. It's not well balanced and battles take a long time to finish. There are other complaints I could talk about, yet I know I'll finish the game. *There is another option. There is an NPC in the first village that will allow you to buy rainbow pearls (used to upgrade skills) for real money. Not a chance in hell I do it, but the option is there. I read the description that's why I picked normal and adventuresome. On normal I've done some optional areas and a level or 2 of the optional dungeon , but no real grinding required.
  14. Just a note that Rainbow Moon was released on PSN US yesterday.
