The No Bad Choices Thread
PIP-Clownboy replied to PrimeJunta's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The defensive talents are extremely boring. Definitely need to be made a bit more attractive so people might consider them over some class/offensive stuff outside a specific min/maxed POTD gimmick build. -
Patch notes for 1.03

Chill Fog is still good -
Meh, all this does is making a PC wizard boring to play. And after their major nerf next patch, I won't even consider playing one w/out a unlimited camp mod. How was spamming two lvl 1 spells fun? If you read the patch notes, they did say other spells were tuned up. At least on Hard, I"m constantly at 2 supplies and keep finding more supplies I can't even loot because I'm full.

At least lvl 9+ wizards might cast spells that aren't lvl 1 now. -
Trial of Iron exploit

Yeah, you can still savescum with ironman, it just makes it much more inconvenient which results in 99% less savescumming for the people with that sickness. -

Barb buffs but at the same, can't ridiculously prebuff them anymore -
Yeah mind lance is a great opener due to the range and it interrupts pretty consistently. Also like Mental Binding foe only aoe paralyze very strong for setting up your Barb/Rogue to massacre everything. Inspiring Radiance is great since you can prebuff the entire party with +5 accuracy and then cast it again later in the encounter.

Just use Durance? You can also set his warding seals (while stealth) right next any traps he sets which is an amazing combo.

Durance will not outheal the spike dmg in the tougher battles, especially if you're barb has negative status effects, standing in AOES, being targeted from range etc. And if he does outheal that, you most likely will be above 50% and no more blooded. It's fun build to use in a casual normal maybe hard game. But for the people that play Ironman and higher difficulties it is not worth it at all. My Barb vaporizes most things without taking 50% of the endurance first.

Greater Focus Talent - Not Working -
PIP-Clownboy replied to icezin's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
It's honestly not that bad. The focus actually carries over to the next fight if it gets to max. So open with two mind blades, 1-2 blunder shots will max you back to 45. Where you can then open with 3 mind blades (which will quite honestly beat 95% of all encounters on Hard). -
Disagree as I don't think Bloodied is worth taking at all. The majority of encounters on Hard/POTD my glasscannon Barb will never be under 50% endurance and if he is, I want him healed asap. Maybe it could work if you're stacking Con, but you'll be giving up better dps stats to do that. While Bloodied is very situational, it is a 50% damage boost. That kind of damage is just... colossal, its too hard to pass up. If it does proc, whatever the Barb is fighting will die very quickly anyway, on Hard difficulty anyway (Its probably overkill on lower difficulties). I haven't tried POTD myself yet, but it wouldn't surprise me if it is less useful there. That depends what your passing up for it. Again, extremely situational and if your Barb is under 50% there is a good chance he is being gang banged.

Wizards are more versatile since they swap out grimoires and have more CC. There is cloak that gives 20% endurance for freeze dmg and seems to be working out quite well. Really? I think that perhaps Barbarian would be quite good because of carnage, though after having a Fighter solo till lvl 5, I can't live without constant recovery any more. Well Barbs have do have a nice self heal. There is a flail/stiletto with endurance leech you can procure quite early which works well with carnage. Rot finger gloves look like they will be essential for solo playthrough. They are a bit too good.

I specifically murdered Osyra for her grimoire even after siding with Raedric and it has cackling bolt, which is a real good spell.

Hard mode is too easy.
PIP-Clownboy replied to Mazisky's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Just starting Act 3 Hard/trial of iron and have not experienced any stat bloat bug whatsoever. Only the Kana weapon set thing, which is easily fixed by booting/rehiring him. I've made sure no such bloat is happening at least every 20 minutes. Game has been a complete cakewalk steamroll on Hard. The only close call was Eder going down in like 2 seconds (think he was paralyzed immediately to begin and out before Durance could get off even 1 heal ) to start the encounter vs Wymund, but Grieving Moms and my Barb stepped up and went clutch.
