These types of games involve strategy and luck, well the luck part applies in the beginning when you are low levels. But once you start winning combat, gaining levels and understanding the gameplay the sense of achievement is unparalleled compared to modern RPG. So keep it up Oh I didn;t give up. obviously. (I paid for this game damnit! I'm finishing it!)I went back an hour later. finished the encounter. (which was really easy because this time drizzzt helped out.) got frustrated elsewhere, quit again. combat I think is the least interesting thing in an RPG, it's not where I get my enjoyment. And having to rest every half a minute makes me glad that PE is doing it differently.

I'm playing BG:EE which is my first time playing Baldurs Gate (did play the sequel) And I got to say, today I forgot to quicksave every 20 paces, so when I got in combat and lost a good size of my party, I had to go back quite a bit. Fine. So I did, then I quicksaved, quicksaved again, and then got to another encounter, which I made, but which cost me some health which meant that I couldn't win the encounter I was travelling back towards. So I rested, got interrupted during rest, beat some gnolls, rested, interrupted again. skin of my teeth made it, rested again, and got interrupted again. /ragequit. Edit: I guess I could have loaded up on potions more, but when so much of your characters' power is based on gear, you save your money for the non-consumables.

That's the argument I often hear. and I think it's bull****. Do you think it's significantly different to administrate for 17 million (Netherlands) as it is for 300 (US)?After a certain point it just doesn't matter anymore. The difference between South Africa and Denmark that is important is not one of demographics, but of policy. Like Sun Tzu said

The only reason people don't eat these animals is because of some societal conditioning to thing of them as unclean. it's nonsense. insects, rats, dogs, reptiles, bring it on. As long as there are people alive who know how to prepare them, I'm game.

Harvest anything and everything you want, but with limited inventory space you'll have to make choices as to what you think is worth looting. -

nothing wrong with a bit of escapism. -
Ooh, time to get creative I'd enjoy a fair bit of otherworldy things to give PE a unique flavour. Floating castles. (still hoping for the endless paths to be a floating dominant landscape feature) Mushroom forests. (though, that can easily be done wrong) craters with unique ecosystems. Underground rivers in the desert (with the occasional surface breaking) A labyrinth within a city, hidden in the slums Floating islands (maybe not original, but I still like em) over the city. A open bar (like you'd find on the beach in tropical tourist places) in the middle of a savannah (because of the uncanny) waterslide highways Rooftop gardens really there is so much that could be done, to give the world a unique and otherworldy flavour.

Looks ambitious, but I'd think it would be cool if the game expected a bit more from the player, so in that sense I like what I am seeing -

Pacing and movement.
JFSOCC replied to Rubicon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Having to walk back for half an hour of gametime straight to get back to your questgiver to accept your reward is bad pacing, and in that case, it shouldn't be a problem to speed it up a bit.- 16 replies

teleportation as quick-travel option. If you're going to make me go back and forth between places, it would be nice if you could unlock teleportation circles or something like that. could be a mini-quest per map.- 16 replies

Magic and the Economy

It does disprove your assertion. If people in a much more extreme situation remain pacified and docile, allowing themselves to be murdered, then people in a less severe situation (slavery, as opposed to extermination) would too. In ancient Sparta, one of the largest (as a percentage of the overall population) slave states, the helots revolted constantly; the militarization of the spartan state was due primarily to the constant threat of slave revolts. It was also one of the reasons the spartan army rarely campaigned far from Sparta's borders from long periods. I mailed this to my friend, who has a masters in history (Focusing on military history), specializing in the Ancient Greek world, currently going for his Ph.D. (His thesis was about the professionalisation of Greek armies.) This is what he had to say: -

Good vs Evil
JFSOCC replied to Malekith's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I haven't played the witcher, but grey to me means unclear, mostly. opaque. Different people have different views on what it wrong or right, and I wont have a game dictate it's views to me. Besides the fact that the characterization decreases when you force someone to act within the confines of "neutral good" or "chaotic evil" is that people simply don't usually get confronted with choices that are so clear. If I give money to a beggar, I might to that because I think it's the right thing to do. Someone is in need and I'm helping him. Someone else might argue that giving money to a beggar will ultimately keep him dependent on donations and prevent the beggar from overcoming the predicament he finds himself in. Both arguments have some truth to it. So can you tell me, without a shadow of a doubt, which is the moral choice? -
I agree, and if you do make the player specialize, then the player should have access to all types of weapons right from the start. (it makes no sense to invest in a weapon skill of a weapon you haven't seen yet, after all)
