Sensible lootdrops please
IndiraLightfoot replied to Griebel's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Having played plenty of CRPGs in my day, I must concur here. It would be nice for a change, hand-placed loot or no. -
Melee/ranged roles for classes
IndiraLightfoot replied to Griebel's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Leave my uncle Kopfweh alone. All he wants to do is to clear out ominous areas with his two kukris effectively while singing ring-a-ring roses, else he gets a migraine. Solo munchkin building can be so much fun, but that's something that usually comes later on, when you have played the game for a while. -
Atypical Crafting
IndiraLightfoot replied to Lephys's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Lephys's and Aluminiumtrioxid's initial posts are very interesting crafting proposals indeed! And this is from someone who practically hates most kinds of crafting. In some ARPGs it is a necessity, but it's part of the grinding, as it were. I hope Obsidian takes several pages from your books in order to make a great crafting system.- 137 replies

Design a monster.

Slitherjaw: A Frankenfish of sorts. It crawls on land for days on end searching for prey. It's quick, ugly and delivers a nasty bite. -
The next update
IndiraLightfoot replied to teknoman2's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Hmm, me picking classes all depends on what kind of companions we are talking about. If they are anything like Grobnar in NWN2 I'll push them into the nearest bramble shrub, but if they are like Kaelyn, I'll be happy to invite them into my little party. And when it's time for Adventurer's Hall, I'll perhaps pick one or two doubles, that is, two party members from the same class, just to se what kind of party I'll get then. -
Late to the party. Hilarious thread, guys! Here's what I think would be the PE distilled from our most recurrent wishes, demands and discussions: -Choices, choices, choices! (You can't place one foot in front of the other without making deep choices: "Hmm, naturalism or phenomenology?" -A vast world, teeming with cultures and societies so interesting and multi-faceted that departments of anthropology all over the world begin to study them as if they were RL entities. - A combat system so gamist that it actually becomes meta-realistic: "I am now one with this endurance surge of mana wisdom." -Practically any mathematically conceivable equation will apply to the explosion of intricacy and complexity involved in rolling up one character: "I've been at it for three weeks. My eyes are bleeding. Do ya hear me?" *Howling at a wallpaper flower.* -The UI is covering half the screen. It's heavy, blocky panels are dripping with IE nostalgia, and any use of it will involve a nagging click sound that would awaken Smaug in an instant. -The stronghold is no less complex than running the administration of the White House: "Shall I enforce Deekin Care, my liege?"

World Map Travel
IndiraLightfoot replied to Shadowless's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Well put, Pipyi! Like others have said: I can live with a point-n-click map, but an overhead map, when well done, is more immersive. It doesn't have to be Skyrim's "You can eat every insect that flies by", but just making it feel like an ecologically and culturally rich, large world will do nicely, and then you'll need to fill in the map as much as possible, by whatever means necessary. -
Hit & Miss - Finalized/Updated?
IndiraLightfoot replied to Pray's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Many of the party-based RPGs Obsidian has made (and others too), I have soloed after a while, and enjoyed it immensely too. Reading Josh's great response about how each party member contributes to the party so much that he misses each one as soon as he took it out from the group, I am a bit curious about how my solo attempts will fare. Have you Obsids designed the game at all with us masochistic soloers in mind, or is it just "the game is soloable", but you'll get a extremely tough ride given the fact that it's all designed to be party-based? Were NWN2 and the IWD-games, for instance, made to be soloed in some respects? I mean, it really worked well. The same goes for DS III, but it was a whole lot harder. I managed to crawl through in hardcore mode there, but at times I thought it was too difficult. -

Malekith and Remmirath raise one of the main issues, though: the common camera hassles in 3D RPGs, including infernal zooming issues and unwarranted rotations of the camera. I think it comes down to the 3D first-person view in computer games failing to portray our stereo vision with corner of the eye capability and all. Perhaps some gaming helmet with a neat goggle interface will solve at least that particular issue in the future.

Isometric vs 3D is such a lame pseudo conflict. It all comes down to gameplay and other entertainment values: Diablo 3, XCom, Civilization and a bunch of other current and very successful games prove that it's a mere matter of game design - it's how enjoyable and addictive game is that matters. Finally, like others have said, rotating the camera and having the 3D experience going often turns out to be a source of annoyance and lack of overview.

It's been a while, and when I get back to these great forums for a peek, what do I see, yet another hilarious thread! :D Well, Pillars of Eternity. it's a decent name, and for a special site in-game it's great. But I somehow thinks it lends itself to Piles of Eternity, a dread for many avid gamers. It also has a suicidal proxy name: Pills of Eternity. And I think it would be bad if it gets the same abbreviation as Path of Exile. I'd love to save PE, but not as an acronym. How about Phases of Eternity? That would be cryptic enough. EDIT: Hang on, that contradicts my sticking to PE. Perhaps Phase Eternity, instead?

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt [2014]
IndiraLightfoot replied to Messier-31's topic in Computer and Console
Let DA3 crawl with bugs, just as long as it is not DA2 all over again. Railroaded mid-air-spawns in empty sceneries>bugs any day! DAO had something truly great going for it, and I know Bioware can deliver fantastic games. P.S. Anything Belgian is always prominent. That's usually for the good, but when it gets bad, the **** really hits the fan. -
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt [2014]
IndiraLightfoot replied to Messier-31's topic in Computer and Console
Bah! Or should I say, baah? As a proud Weresheep of Original Sin, I can say that we have something more precious than that. We have a lead writer at Larian Studios in our PE-endorsing midst, and he's a darn good one too: Macbeth. -
I feel you, Monte! And like forgottenlore wrote, I bought the M&M X early access, had a few hours of beta-testing done, reported the bugs, but I'll leave it at that (not much spoilers, anyways). I suspect PE will be the same. I really do hope for bet access for character creation, though. I loved when DAO's chargen got released well in advance. In this way, Obsidian can iron a lot of system bugs in those systems too. In short, I will prolly load it up, run a round a bit, and then stop.

Well said, Wals! And I absolutely adore everything about Eddie Izzard and his work, even down to his role in Shadow of a Vampire.

Diablo 3 - Reaper of Souls - new expansion
IndiraLightfoot replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Computer and Console
It has been ages since I loaded up D3, but this anticipation of ROS forced my arm, and it wasn't to bad at all. Perhaps the two greatest strengths is its great place and flow - all that is so very polished. Also, item hunting never gets old. I added a monster level to my favourite toon, my monk, and literally the game got even more crammed with hellish minions trying to rip my heart out. I imagine that getting a few more paragon levels can't hurt before ROS turns them into paragon points that you get to invest in your character. -

I saw Grown-Ups yesterday. It was labelled a "feel-good" movie. But it made me feel queasy. If it at least was Ebeneezer Goode, his ever as good. Labadal: If you are going to watch a good movie with Bruce Willis and a kid, I suggest The Sixth Sense. Be prepared to rewind when you've seen it, like a frantic garbage scrambler.
