  1. BruceVC: Thank you! And indeed, it came out a bit hard, didn't it? I was so into proving the point that it's okay to say what you like about a game or a feature in a game, etc., but the rest of the bullying and other barbaric tendencies should be left out, full stop. There is a line in real life, and the same standards should apply over the internet as well. Internet is no rampage carte blanche for one's reptilian part of the brain.
  2. Walsingham: Then, it'll be a smashing cake, coz you have made yourself a Naval Boarding Ax, you know, like a Minecraft recipe: http://www.google.se/imgres?imgurl=http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/img-thing%3F.out%3Djpg%26size%3Dl%26tid%3D55851123&imgrefurl=http://www.polyvore.com/antique_19th_century_british_naval/thing?id%3D55851123&h=300&w=300&sz=5&tbnid=N_NJCUWTnoqk4M:&tbnh=93&tbnw=93&prev=/search%3Fq%3D19th%2Bcentury%2Broyal%2Bnavy%2Bimages%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=19th+century+royal+navy+images&usg=__a6WxDFdxnq6DdCwrXEfUQoXrflg=&docid=E8SZ06b6ur2XUM&sa=X&ei=g1AOUpmJMYrf4QSHoICIDg&ved=0CF8Q9QEwDw&dur=820#imgdii=_
  3. Raithe: Oh, it will succumb to fire, alright. The logs will provide some nice, cosy heating when Jack Frost begins to terrorize the environs. I'll be waiting for him with me flame thrower behind a bush at a choke point. Guard Dog: Keep on playing, once you reach level 35 or so, they game will offer no resistance at all, and then you'll prolly get tired of it. However, with a few wisely chosen mods you are good to go for another round of Skyrim.
  4. Several great posts here on consumables! If the potions are rare and non-situational, perhaps one could take the whole thing one step further: Perhaps only a few classes, cultures and/or races can stomach certain kinds of potions (based on certain ingredients). In essence, only a few PCs can quash several kinds of potions, and some PCs can't even sip on any of them. I realize it would be a bit tricky, but it would make character creation even more interesting.
  5. I had to pick Neverwinter, because of the fantastic companions in NWN2 MotB, that alone warrants its # 1 spot, and BG and Torment came a close second. It's very hard to rank great games like these.
  6. I just chopped up half a cherry tree on me property using nothing but elbow grease. It was like a hundred years old, and it had split down the middle into a drainage ditch. Weirdly enough, it felt darn good, just as Thoreau ordered.
  7. There are certainly cases as you describe. I've seen them on Kickstarter and in other places. What I try to be sensible about is the dogpiling in the first place. If someone, like Hepler, has made something you don't like, it's enough to tell them so, then the criticism can be devoid of bullying and threats and all that. Just tell the person that it sucks and why, and leave it at that. P.S. I hate DA2 and ME3, just to get that out of the way.
  8. Precisely, just stating the obvious. Any standing up for basic decency and laws and rules should be ho-hum second nature. Funny how common it is that level-headed maturity is followed by belittling remarks on the internet. Perhaps it is a matter of that screen again, and feeling big behind it?
  9. Malc, but how come I was so calm when writing it?
  10. Lol, now this is cute. Also, the whole gay thing is just how Bioware likes to deflect criticism of their terrible games. "You don't like ME3 or DA2, you are a nasty homophobic troll!" I've used the internet since it began. Just because trolling and insults happen on the internet doesn't make it any more legit than hate speech in RL. 11. Cooking workshop, you say, eh? Well then, use only the finest baby frogs, dew-picked and flown from Iraq, cleansed in the finest quality spring water, lightly killed, and sealed in a succulent, Swiss, quintuple-smooth, treble-milk chocolate envelope, and lovingly frosted with glucose.
  12. Yes, yes, YES!!! I'd love to see a CRPG with the choice of cultural background be as important as Race and Class. Let's have a new factor while making our characters: Culture! Hopefully, in this way we could at least encompass some stereotypical differences of class and social habitat as well, like making having an Urban or Rural background count, just as a Ceremonial upbringing would be quite different from Mundane. In certain extreme case, your Culture would make certain items taboo - you wouldn't wear them or use them even if your life depended on it.
  13. ^This! It should say it all for any civilized human being. Each continued attempt at justifying the horrors and the horrific effects of those threats is despicable. It's never, ever okay to treat any kind of person that way, and when it's been done on shady grounds, by individuals failing to deal with frustrations over one or two computer games with some fiction involving selectable gender roles, it's just so bizarre that I wish I could undo all such destructive actions in one sweep and rid the world of those problems forever.
  14. One scary thing about Egypt is that army has the society in such a firm grip and that goes decades back. I heard it on the news that the army owns a lot of factories making popular food and drink, and they also own tourist complexes and other surprising facilities. They are nestled into all places where the money is, I guess. It will be next to impossible to remove them without resorting to violence in spades, and then we'd get another Syria, but probably even worse, given the religious conflicts already being as bad as they are, especially between Muslims and Copts.
  15. Imagine Popcorn going off just as you start swinging maces at a horde of skellies!
  16. Wonderful post, Karranthain! And I agree 100 %! Early on, I've been a proponent for a true scarcity of magical items. For instance, in BG 1, it took forever, to get your hands on a magical weapon (at least in my first playthru) and I still found that a bit on the frequent side. And your ideas on cultural items are great. In FNV, if you wear certain gear and armour, you get to be interpreted as part of those factions. I'd like to see that kind of thinking expanded in PE. Also, each cultural instance of a dagger, just as an example, would have slightly different qualities and perhaps even be better if you are raised with the confines of that specific culture. I'd hate for the game to include titles for items like "leather cap +1" or Skyrim's material fetishisms (glass bow, anyone? *Snap!*)
  17. Woldan: Alright, you're right, those are bigger (You got the brawn, I'd be a fool to argue with you ). Just kidding. I've had a few of those earlier on. Besides, that cat is big, it weighs like eight kilos. Labadal: I was already hungry, and those look delicious. Yum! I have to grab a snack. brb...
  18. Boogie Nights we've heard of, but Booger Days, featuring the Pope himself? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpjlROumMk0
  19. I've just half the first and only season of House of Cards, and I must say it's quite entertaining. It's Machiavellian and cleverly written, with Frank Underwood (the ever brilliant Kevin Spacey) talking to us viewers on occasion, updating us on machinations and tactics. Also, it's not entirely realistic, on purpose, the writers let the characters where their unconscious on their sleeves, and they speak what normally is read between the lines.
  20. And subrace reactivity as well, between the Orlan subraces, for instance. Also, social strata reactivity, but that's a given.
  21. Minecraft is great! I've been playing it a lot since its beta days with my kids (and on my own too, of course). It's great fun, very educational, and can be turned into any game you want, really. Oh, and Happy Birthday, JFSOCC!
  22. Rosbjerg: Sigh, and Autumn means more work, at least for me. But on the flip side, it usually means more gaming too.
  23. Keyrock: I agree, that trailer is pretty amazing. However, I've tried to get into both Witcher 1 and 2, and haven't made it passed the first hours of those games. I don't really know why, and I do aim to finish them some day, especially W2 Enh Ed. Hopefully, Witcher 3, with its open world (20 % bigger than Skyrim acc to Wikipedia), will make me a true believer.
  24. Lephys: I'd love to see an option to hisde hhelmets or even make them get opened up or removed. The same goes for masks and other conversation-disturbing headgear. In Skyrim, I very soon got used to a mod that opens up all helmets so that you see the wearers' faces more. Finally, they can breathe.
  25. With everyone complaining about Shadowrun Returns being far too short, I found this piece of news reassuring. I haven't read the whole thread, so perhaps it's already buried in it somewhere: InXile founder Brian Fargo told the game’s backers that Wasteland 2 may well be the largest RPG he has worked on to date, and it’s quite a struggle trying to achieve the release goal, even with help of an increased budget. The goal required to develop Wasteland 2 had been exceeded by two million dollars, and as a result, inXile is attempting to put every dollar to use in making the game.
