  1. Same. It's a big problem since it makes one of your characters completely useless but I'm sure it'll be fixed soon.
  2. Can we get this pinned? Many people are having this problem, and it's a frustrating one so we're likely to see many posts about it throughout the BB. I just bought Justice for over 12,000 and didn't get to use it before it disappeared during a save/reload :(
  3. Apparently when entering the inn, your BB Wizard loses his grimoire (and his equipped weapon?) and I haven't figured out a way to replace the grimoire. Edit: Actually, it appears that the grimoire/items may be disappearing right at the start of a new game.
  4. This happened to me as well. So it's when you enter the Inn then? I didn't notice when it happened, but the darned guy has been relegated to standing back and throwing the odd punch until I found him an Arbalest. I wasn't able to fix the problem either.
  5. Right, because loading a save can result in your party members losing armor and/or weapons. Is this a known bug? Maybe they are related.
  6. I'm installed the Beta on my laptop and my Desktop. My Laptop is somewhat too slow to run the game but then menus work fine. On my Desktop however... The menus, particularly Character Creation and level up screens are HORRIBLY slow. As in, each click takes 4-8 seconds to register. With 50-something attribute points to allocate, you can imagine how painful a process this is. *click* wait for a while. *click* wait for a while. Rinse and repeat fifty times. The same problem happened on the level up screen, all in all it was incredibly tedious just to begin a game, but it's worked fairly well since. The thing I can't figure out is why this happens on my more powerful Desktop and not my Laptop. Are there any known graphic card incompatibilities? My specs: AMD Phenom II X4 Quad 3.4 GHz processor 8 gig RAM Geforce GTX 460 Combat and everything else runs perfectly smooth in game, only the menus with a large view of your character etc makes it slow down.
  7. I think you guys are right, it's related to switching weapons not encumbrance. Also, I noticed that when I used the 'save then reload' fix on a separate occasion, my weapon was gone. This happened to me several times to the point where a couple of my characters had no weapons and I didn't notice until later. I don't know if it's related, but somehow my BB Wizard is also unable to use any spells, but I'm not sure when this occurred.
  8. I encountered this problem during my first gaming session: - Defeated the Nefyre(sp?) encounter in the inn - After looting, my main character became stationary (possibly from carrying too much?) - Even after redistributing and even selling off heavy items, char still couldn't move - There was no text or audio indicating that he was carrying too much I tried several things but nothing seems to fix it other than saving and reloading. Has anyone had this problem? Is it actually a bug having to do with inventory weight, like in IE games where they could no longer move? My best guess is that my character became overencumbered but when the items were removed from his inventory the status was not removed correctly.
  9. I'm curious about this as well. Hoping it'll be made available at least shortly before official release time, so we can dive in and get immersed and optimally hyped
  10. Interesting choice to specifically include Rain instead of the more typical Water. Any particular lore reason for that?
  11. That is a fantastically hilarious and obscure reference. Awesome. Which is from..? (I was actually immediately very curious about this but Googling it returned only confusing mixed results ) More on topic, I was hoping we'd be learning more about the Backer Beta this update. Creatures were decently cool, but not overly new except the Xaurips I think. The elementals looks about as standard as standard can get, but the written description sounds amazing! I love the backstory, but found it a bit disappointing that the shifting agonized figures described as inside the blights weren't visually depicted in the animations. Maybe the attack animations will have them?
  12. I got one for you guys. It's gotta be Bub Snikt, from BG1. He's a random hunter you can encounter in the wilderness southwest of Beregost near where you find the Worn Whispers boots of sneaking on a Hobgoblin. Bub... now, who do we know that uses that nickname a lot.... Snikt... wait a sec... this is all coming together rather familiar... Then I saw the dialogue option to ask him what he does for a living, and in his reply he claims to be the best there is at what he does, but that what he does isn't very nice. Okay so this wasn't exactly deep character writing and more of a cheap reference gimmick but I sure got a kick out of it :D Especially since it completely went over my head the first bazillion times I played BG1
  13. All this stat theory talk sounds like a whole lot of jargon to me, lacking context (me no understandy!) but I will say this: the idea that my Clobbermonster BruteFace guy gains magical damage (regardless of whether or not he can use it) along with physical damage relative to his Might stat, and that my Bearded SpellSlinger McFrail also gains a beefier sword arm (however clumsily squishy he remains) as his spellcasting gets stronger... is just weird. That said.... I grudgingly support it anyway if it makes sense from a gameplay perspective and is better in playtesting, even if my brain twitches at all of my character concepts it ruins.
  14. Reputation system: looking interesting! Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere and I'm late to the party, but what is the range for player and party reputations? Between one and three? What are the possible descriptors? Possible Player Reputations: Aggressive 1- ? 2- Surly 3- ? Benevolent 1- Kind 2- ? 3- ? Passionate 1- ? 2- ? 3- Zealous Possible Party Reputations (by area): Bad 1- ? 2- Rascal 3- ? Good 1- Ally 2- ? 3- Hero Mixed 1- Eccentric 2- Oddity 3- ? Is this correct? Is it even possible to the a level three mixed party reputation? I'm curious as to what that would be, if so.
  15. I am not often impressed. My jaw hit the floor. It was still grinning
  16. Hi, this is the wife of the user known as "fortuntek," I just found this account to tell you all that I just found my husband's head-exploded bloody corpse in our computer room, and I am holding you all responsible. But that won't stop me from playing this sweet looking game.
  17. Hrrm :\ It sounded like you guys were saying this update was going to show us the animated waterfall scene. Can we at least get a hi-res version of the concept interior?
  18. Totally hearing you there. If I had to guess though, the newly Disney-owned and operated LucasArts studios could end up giving Obsidian the go ahead, but only conditionally on that they ought to tie their story into the broader arc forthcoming with the new movie trilogy. And seriously, they'd be stupid not to-- that is, from a marketing standpoint. Movie hype <-- feeds --> game hype, and so on. Back to what you were saying though: that's sort of the problem, between episodes III-IV has been done to death, as well as any movie gap times. That's also one of the reasons why I liked the Old Republic setting so much (in truth, it captivated me more than the movie setting ever did once I got my claws on every little nugget of EU material out there) It's like they need a.. "new" era, or time frame. But that's problematic seeing as post-original trilogy stories have been written and erasing them wholesale, while good for the new movies, would be a gigantic Mickey Mouse themed slap upside the face to longtime Star Wars fans who've spent years becoming invested in those EU stories and characters. (Though if it were up to me, I'd most like to see a clean slate--SHWOOSH, all kiddie Skywalkers bye bye, Chewie back, and the Yuuzhan Vong naught but the fevered dream of a madman...)
  19. I still maintain that there ought to be a God of Confusion though Has few worshippers, very little power... but manifests himself in small, misunderstood ways. This god wouldn't just cause confusion, but would actually be confused himself. Therefore divine interventions are rather unpredictable and misguided or unasked for (but usually rather harmless).
  20. Great update! I'm particularly pleased and inspired by the interesting name choices, especially Woedica (love the name, not to mention the rest! Really, truly a stellar start) One thought about the pantheon building though: while it's nice to see the amount of depth put into each god/goddess and the variety of items in the portfolios of single deities, I wonder: do the gods act according to their portfolio, or is their portfolio really a description of their actions? It seems that D&D deities are written as though the former is the case, while the latter would appear to allow for less linear conceptions that can change over time based on their actions (i.e. Woedica comes to kill an oathbreaker but upon approaching the person, a widowed mother with child in her arms, breaks the tendency towards Vengeance and leaves, and subsequently changes her perspective in favour of widows or young mothers etc, and this becomes part of her portfolio) Just a thought
  21. Excellent question. I think the gist of it is that thrusting weapons like daggers and misericords are great at getting into gaps in armour and causing damage. In fact, some small stabbing weapons were designed specifically for this purpose. [snip] I believe another way of saying what this means (correct me if I'm wrong) is that piercing weapons are not preferred against any particular type of armor, but might be a good "balanced" choice that is not the absolute best against either extreme, but remains a decent overall choice against any. A middle option, basically. As pointed out above, excessive realism might not be the answer here... personally, I'm totally fine with this arrangement
  22. Hmm, not exactly what I had in mind. I see him more as a flawed, bad-turned-good sort of redemptive story. A hated, misunderstood individual. I like this idea! Maybe he had a very good and justifiable reason for wanting to do what he did, but the others couldn't be brought around to see. Good food for thought. I think of this god as kind of like Exar Kun in the Redemption series of Star Wars comics... having come terribly close to conquering the galaxy as a Sith Lord only to fail and be cut off from the Force, he lives on a remote uninhabited snow world where he is found by the 15-year-old daughter and jedi padawan of the Jedi Master who defeated him and took away his ability to use or sense the Force. She is lost, and he reluctantly allows her to share his shelter from the cold. She convinces him that although he can no longer touch the Force, he could still teach her some things that she'd never be able to learn elsewhere. He teaches her some advanced Jedi knowledge by only describing it and guiding her, and she in turn serves as a moral inspiration and a counterbalance of good naturedness and youthful exuberance to his resigned, bitter and neutral existence.
  23. How about an Exiled God? One who tried to destroy the mortal plane of existence, or once did great damage to the material realm and was cast out by the other gods in retribution and stripped of most of his godhood, and damned to live in the mortal plane for eternity. He cannot interact with worshippers like other gods, and although he does not age, is vulnerable to being harmed or killed. For this reason he lives like a hermit away from civilization because all mortal people have reason to want revenge on him. I would recommend him as a tragic figure... one who regrets his actions, but can no longer redeem himself for them. Any quests involving him should not end in having to choose whether or not to kill him (no, that would be too obvious and over-done) but maybe convince him to help someone, or learn to trust a mortal companion.
  24. How about a God of Confusion? Has few worshippers, very little power... but manifests himself in small, misunderstood ways. This god doesn't just cause confusion, but is actually confused himself. Therefore divine interventions are rather unpredictable and misguided or unasked for (but usually rather harmless).
  25. I lol'd :D Am now imagining a new class concept... the "Cartesian." Only class that can properly use the Comfy Armchair item. Class restrictions include: combat, dialogue, making money, or doing anything except existing
