  1. Yesterday I finished a paper for my current art history class. Normally I would be scrambling to finish it as it's due tomorrow, but today I'm just chillaxin'. Opened TF2 but got sidetracked posting on interweb supertube forums. I should really click that bar down there and get to demospamming. Those tramps are a terrifying bunch. What with their bindles and all.
  2. That's more of a Bioware Social Network thing, really. The frothing rage at the mention of JRPGs, that is. Chris Avellone loved Chrono Trigger, as far as I'm aware, from his celebratory tweet upon acquiring a set of figures of characters from the game. Anyway, the idea reminded me of a mechanic from Super Robot Wars Z2, in which characters you didn't deploy in the previous battle could be assigned to one of four tasks which would give them some degree of growth or contribute to your monetary holdings to make up for their inability to do so during the last battle. You could assign ten characters to each of three tasks, each of which would grant benefits of some kind. e.g. One would increase the assigned pilots' level by 1, one would increase their kill count by 2 (this being useful for acquiring "Ace" status for little-used characters, granting each character a unique "Ace bonus,") and one would acquire money, with each character bringing back an amount proportional to their level (money being the primary means of improving your combat ability by buying upgrades to a given robot's stats.)
  3. What, Mandarin or Cantonese? All japes aside, addressing the OP, it should be English. And whatever other language they later translate the original English into. Nobody speaks medieval English today, few people understand it without special instruction. If someone from ye olde tymes heard modern English they wouldn't understand it any better than an average modern English speaker understands The Canterbury Tales. This is a fictional world, not medieval Britain, there's no reason to put on that sort of mummers farce, all it would do is add difficulty to the writing process. The idea is that the player is speaking whatever the imaginary lingua-franca of the land is, and thus should understand it as the players understand their own languages. Even though English is the lingua-franca of the modern age.
  4. I think the idea of a truck sim is actually better. Add some story elements, take inspiration on the atmosphere from, say, Twin Peaks and you've got it right there. To be honest, I think there's too few really original game concepts around. What about Forklift Truck Simulator 2013?
  5. I'm poor so I do poor people exercise. My weight for lifting is an old computer. My exercise bike is a terrifyingly noisy thing from the 1950s or 60s that I'm afraid will splinter into many shards of sharp, penetrating metal. Usually walk a few miles a day. Hopefully will upgrade to running and/or cycling. No experience with trainers or gyms because those Still, it's worked well enough, thus far. Lost 65 pounds (I think that's about 28kg for the more civilized peoples of the world,) since this time last year. Would like to gain muscle mass and end up strong rather than scrawny. Although I was scrawny as a child, so that's still better than being overweight.
  6. Why does this sound like a combination of Diablo, Kingdoms of Amalur and Skyrim? Oh, right, because its budget target was $25,000. Reading this text... it sounds like it's just mixing together elements of other games, while rebranding said elements and denigrating the games they're imitating. If you pay attention (the writing isn't exactly coherent, it looks like they just didn't bother to include a few vital paragraphs, if they existed in the first place,) you'll find that the main storyline is a fetch-quest. "Then they conjured up dark magic that would destroy the Dawn itself, but it was indestructible. However, they succeeded in shattering it into 23 pieces which they flung all over the world, hoping that the Dawn would never be put together again. The world of Narr awaits heroes, special mortals of pure spirit that would seek out the fragments and reassemble the Dawn. Balance and harmony must be restored to the world, for that is the only way to save it from total destruction." Phrases of relevance bolded by me.
  7. ...Why not do it for real? Obsidian's not going to make "RPG Biker USA simulator" (where did the RPG thing even come from? By the standard you applied, CoD multiplayer is an RPG.) I mean, really. Come on. It's 3,100 miles from Seattle to Boston on I-90 (that's 4990km for you unpatriotic types,) that's a longer distance than from Moscow to Seville, Spain. And that's just one Interstate. No video game has ever accurately modeled the real world with any degree of accuracy or comparable visual quality.
  8. Xenogears was a good game aside from the budget issues and flagrant attempts to emulate Neon Genesis Evangelion's shallow Judeo-Christian symbolism. And the standard JRPG unwinnable story fights that can be won but the story stays the same. That said, Xenosaga was terrible (I never played past the first one, it was so bad,) and I don't have a Wii U. Besides, I get more than enough mecha satisfaction from SRW.
  9. Eh. The only real hope is that they've got better writers than Bethesda Softworks proper. Which would not be a difficult thing to achieve.
  10. Shouldn't you have ended that post with "End of Line" ? END OF RINE BANNED
  11. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=122263495 Borderlands 2's biggest flaw is not having dialogue tailored to each individual vault hunter. Except combat barks, oddly enough. Especially Nomads, who frequently use derogatory, sexist language when fighting Maya or Gaige, as well as calling out to their allies to focus on "the witch," in reference to Maya (in addition to other class-specific barks for every class,) but some story NPCs refer to the player as male at all times. I'd imagine Borderlands 2 had a comparable (if not larger,) budget to New Vegas, so If Obsidian could at least distinguish between sexes in all conversations, I think they could have and should have done the same at Gearbox. Then again, these are the guys who thought Duke Nukem Forever was worth releasing.
  12. Beauty was a more or less irrelevant attribute. It's a good idea, one I'd like to see implemented with much more potency in other games, but It was the Arcanum's dump stat thanks to poor execution. It didn't have any significant effects, charisma and intelligence were what mattered in conversations, and once you entered combat, the hostile NPCs' reaction dropped to 0 regardless of how beautiful your character was. At the very least, opponents should have been negatively affected statistically vs a character with high beauty and positively affected vs a character with low beauty. i.e. Male enemies would be more reticent (and thus suffer combat penalties,) about attacking a female PC with high beauty, and vice versa for female vs male, unless the hostile NPC is homosexual. The obvious other end of the scale is that hostile NPCs would be more aggressive toward ugly/low beauty characters of either sex. So far I've yet to encounter any NPC who could be swayed by high beauty similar to the way the sex appeal trait worked, especially for female player characters, in Fallout 2 (it was pretty useless for male PCs.) Backgrounds were by far my favorite aspect of character creation, even though a more than a few of them resulted in a net loss, statistically. Also some weren't really backgrounds so much as traits (i.e. hydrophobia and the various " x mage" "backgrounds,") I'd like to see backgrounds in P:E and have them affect story and NPC interactions in some way rather than simply modifying gameplay mechanics through statistic modification as in Arcanum (trade strength, constitution and perception for intelligence and charisma, fewer critical hits and misses but greater magnitude when they occur, etc.) It also seems to me like they ought to be a bigger influence on characters' starting attributes, skills and proficiencies than race. I could complain that the whole tech aspect of the game was underpowered compared to the magic side, but I've already said that too many times in other threads in which I've discussed my playing of Arcanum. The concept is still fundamentally interesting and could make for more, better games.
  13. This coming from the guy who compared Gurren Lagann to monkeys throwing ****. Why do people like Hokuto no Ken? Because it's silly hyper-violent fun. I eagerly await your ten page dissertation on how Kenshiro punching a tank to death while doing a Bruce Lee impression is a deep, emotionally gripping symbolic moment with myriad artistic layers that paint a complex emotional and philosophical conundrum.
  14. Have you thought that perhaps Kecaw's native language is not English? Why, exactly, should I care? In English classes in English-speaking countries, teachers correct the mistakes of their students so that they might write and speak English with more proficiency. Why do you care enough to ignore the subject of the thread just to white knight for another poster? Furthermore, what is Obsidian best known for? Exceptional writing. What country is Obsidian located in? The US. What is the standard, albeit unofficial, language of the US? English. The much lauded writers of Obsidian are writing in English. What kind of game Planescape would have been if it had been filled with unintentional spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors? So, in a return to the subject of the thread, here's a thing I don't want in Project Eternity: Poor writing. Good thing I'll get my wish.
  15. You can't seriously be suggesting that you don't think that Al-Qaeda is real as a known and established terrorist organization ? Of course he can be. Haven't you seen any of his posts before? If it's not a Russian nationalist post, it's a troll post slinging insults at the "West" and its people. He made a thread to just to say that Americans are fat, ugly, immoral and the most corrupt people with the most fascist system of government on the face of the Earth, come on.
  16. So, basically, you're asking for Bethesda's Radiant AI which caused so many problems in so many games, and likely will for the foreseeable future?
  17. Equal or less than it had been prior. Besides, I doubt Disney/Lucasarts' first choice for a KotoR3 dev would be Obsidian.
  18. Fawkes was alright as a character (except for the fact that he set a section of Bethesda fans insisting on calling Super Mutants "meta-humans,") but in such an easy late game, bringing such an OP character (it was an infinite ammo gatling laser, not a minigun,) just took what little fun was left out of the main storyline. Add to that an invincible super-robot who does all the fighting for the "climactic final battle," and you've got what amounts to an endgame that's an interactive cutscene. Kreia is probably number one for me. Most every game gives the player the option of contesting their followers' beliefs, but Kreia turns the tables, regardless of what choices you make. Cass in NV. Mostly because (before they nerfed her frequency of talking,) she had something specifically contextual to say about your current location or situation, something that most other characters lacked. I would also say Raul and Gannon if they didn't always whine whenever you crouch. Seriously, I'm just crouching for weapon stability, you don't have to do it, too. Well, I know you have to because that's how the game is programmed, but still. It's not like you guys are any help when sneaking, anyway. Morte is just good old fashioned hilarious, in spite of his massive dickery for time immemorial.
  19. Well.... It's no Legend of Galactic Heroes.
  20. I'm still assuming there's a good likelihood of any given class having access to some kind of "soul" skills for use in and out of combat which are magic-like. i.e. A monk's chi/ki/chakra/prana, whatever you want to call it.
  21. You know anyone can get drunk, right? The Dutch aren't particularly known for their drinking excesses, so far as I'm aware (being of Irish descent, I openly challenge you to a drinking contest.) I hear more about Tulips in regard to the Nederlands than alcohol. You can't make any liquor or beer or wine out of a Tulip, can you? Besides, not everyone is an angry drunk. Some people are happy drunks, some people are funny drunks, some people are stupid drunks, some people are horny drunks, etc.
  22. Have you ever been to a Christian game review site? Or an Evangelical church? These people legitimately exist.
  23. You guys would not be able to appreciate through text how hard I am laughing right now. Whenever someone says "real magic" like some pudgy wiccan wearing a velvet cape to community college classes can make a voodoo curse on some douche, I can't breathe from the laughter. Oh man, I can't believe people like this exist in the industrialized world. I wonder if they think internal combustion is a form of magic. What about the internet? How can they believe in rational thought if they believe magic is real? At any rate, they've said you can play through the game, start to finish, with only your player character alone, regardless of class. So whatever, the anti-christ computer demons encoded in the demonic magic machine on your desk can't hurt you.
  24. To own the property they'd brought to the marriage? As in...? This is one of those [citation needed] moments. And I'm expecting the source of this "vikings were feminist egalitarians" thing is going to come from viking apologists/history revisionists who say they didn't rape or pillage or burn Britain and France on and off for centuries before finally settling down and invading.
