Still playing Dark Souls. I've just stopped reviving to human unless offering up/looking for JOLLY COOPERATION because invaders are so blatantly unfair. I know the game is hard, it's meant to be hard. I enjoy the game as it is. But they always just appear, teleport behind me, I can't dodge or block or anything and they do this cheap oneshot electric punch that kills me instantly, every time, no matter who the player is. If I quit the game or unplug my PS3 when they're in my world will it mess up their game in any way? Are they cheating or are level 600 players allowed to invade level 1-25 players? Do they get this just for being an invader? Also, that ****ing Capra Demon and those stupid dogs. ... not gonna lie, the "mouth" of that mask looks like it belongs between a womans legs. Gorgon: Skyrim got so boring and repetetive, and I heard the first DLC is just more of the same crammed awkwardly into the existing game world with the added "bonus" of vampires attacking towns and permanently killing NPCs. It doesn't count as respite if it's basically the same monotonous gameplay but with differently shaped enemies. The "tactics" and combat will still be identical. I uninstalled Skyrim about a month ago. I just can't imagine Bethesda coming up with a story good enough for me to reinstall and pay for a timed-exclusive DLC. Calax: You think razor sharp pincers belong between a woman's legs?

Stretch Goals are BS? What?

...because of this, that's no longer true in BL2. I've pretty much given up on getting even the basic Legendaries. I might find one once in a while from a first-kill of a plot boss, but since I can't kill Terra or any of the others alone and I'm not going to gamble for 10000 hours, I play the game as if they don't exist. Which is a marked contrast from BL1, where I could and did find the orange weapons from regular combat or the machines frequently enough to be satisfying/helpful to run-through of the game itself (vs. just grind farming later). Hubby and I tried to defeat the "raid boss" thingie at the end of the Hammerlock DLC (this in playthru1, lvl 36ish or so) with a Gunzerker/Commando, and that did not work at all. Now some of this is definitely due to us not being the best players for that sort of fight, but anyway...I had a feeling about the direction Gearbox was going to go in from General Knoxx, and they just keep moving further in that direction. For hubby and I, who like to start over anyway, at least we can make new characters and play the game together up to PT2 Warrior and then just do it again. That's been fun enough for the most part - hubby doesn't care about raid-boss or farming/finding the "best" items so he's fine, and if he's fine that's all I care about right now. Still, I'm not sure I'd buy a BL3 at this point. I soloed Terramorphous with Maya before they instituted the once-a-day limit using the Conference Call + The Bee (pre-nerf,) and the spot where its projectile attacks can't hit you. Couldn't even dent Hyperious. When I had a 4-member co-op team against him, everyone but the Gunzerker got killed and then the Gunzerker soloed him with no trouble (at level 50.) The worst part is that he only drops about 12 Seraph Crystals on average, meaning you have to kill him at least 10 times to get just one Seraph-class item, all of which are bad compared (save relic which has no downside,) to the standard Orange legendaries. And now they've made the drop rates of legendary items in Normal mode even lower. You can't even get Seraph Crystals from DLC raid bosses in Normal mode now, even if you've never unlocked True Vault Hunter mode. The thing is, you have to have high level purple or better loot to really stand a chance in the late-game portions of TVHM, since pretty much every enemy from the Eridium Blight onward is level 50+. Keeping in mind that the level cap is 50. Anyway, I agree that the most fun is in playing from the start over again, sort of like in New Vegas. The DLCs throw off the game balance, but they instituted a degree of level-scaling in one of the updates. Without playing the DLC, Normal mode feels like the right gameplay balance, even though Gearbox maintains that TVHM is the way the game is meant to be played/experienced. Ok, too much metagame for me, and speaking of replaying the game from the start, now I'd rather just complain about the overrated writing. The humor is phenomenal, the main storyline writing is mediocre at best. The worst part is how they made Lilith clingy and desperate for Roland, who is the most blandly written bland character in the recent history of blandness. If you equated his charisma and personality to a color, it would be taupe. Lilith might as well be clingy and desperate for the attention of a wooden plank with plot exposition and mission objectives written on it.

On Pacifism & the nonlethal takedown
AGX-17 replied to Ralewyn's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I share opinion that non-lethal option (like persuade or stun weapon) is very good. Using of stealth skill (like in Lionheart) often not enough. Yes, I will henceforth be responding to new posts in threads that have been inactive for months or longer with this video. [/url] Of course you're going to be able to talk/charm your way out of combat. In some situations. But as the devs have said, P:E is going to be a combat-centric game and I've already made it known that I think it'd be absoludicrous to be able to perform a "no-kill" pacifist run like in Metal Gear Solid or Dishonored. In some cases it would be irresponsible or immoral (depending on how you RP your character's morality, of course,) in most cases it's a fight to the death, and how, pray tell, does one use a tranquilizer dart or a sleeper hold on a skeleton, giant demon, incorporeal vengeful spirit, etc.?- 51 replies

Let us corrupt our companions
AGX-17 replied to Cultist's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
This thread has already been made, but whatevs. It's silly to have the idea of making all your companions evil in a game which has been declared as having no good/evil simplistic morality system dominating it. "Corrupting your companions" falls pretty clearly under the "good/evil binary sliding scale" category so far as I see it. If I had posted earlier, I basically would have said what Keyrock said. -
Probably, technically the wiki says Shepard herself is a LT. Cmdr. IDK no one can get their ranks right these days. Bioware and its fans can't, anyway. (Insert jab at Canada's military prowess here.)

You can also use several tricks using your .profile file to get, in effect, unlimited keys. You can also get 100% orange drops, too. There are a lot of things you can do. Meh, editing the drops seems like it would take away from the fun of the game while getting keys allows you to not worry about wasting them (i.e. using some with a character you don't like or using them too early). Yeah, it does. But on the other hand, the drop rates for the highest-end gear can be astronomically low, and that's been getting worse over time. They've been decreasing drop rates and instituting limits on how often you can fight certain raid bosses (which are the only enemies with a significant chance of dropping the aforementioned gear.) They've created a situation where the only legitimate way to get the gear is to grind, but they're doing more and more to stop players from grinding. The game stops being fun once you've hit level 50, anyway. Even with top-tier stuff like lv50 Legendary class mods, lv50 orange guns, lv50 orange shields, lv50 blood of the seraphs, etc. everyone is getting knocked down into fight for your life a dozen or more times because all the enemies are 3+ levels above 50 in the endgame areas and DLC, if entered at that point. The stress of that is compounded by the fact that you have nothing to gain but loot, and you know it's all going to be garbage until you've cleared the DLC and gained access to the raid boss/es after the end. That's what the skill trees are for. e.g. Maya: Harmony can let her change her Phaselock to revive fallen party members and add a slag projectile to her melee attack. Movement can allow Phaselock to act like a singularity grenade and suck enemies toward the targeted enemy or even to make an enemy turn on his comrades for a time instead of simply being paralyzed. Cataclysm can make it cause all types of elemental damage to the victim. Anyway, the point, broadly, is cohesion between the different classes in co-op, not a broad range of character abilities for each class. For instance, it's nearly impossible for Maya to solo any major/raid boss because her phaselock doesn't work on any of them (instead it deals a puny amount of damage, at lv50 it's usually around 10-20k to enemies who have hundreds of millions of HP,) whereas Salvador or Zero can do it relatively easily depending on the player.

My thoughts on project Eternity
AGX-17 replied to JRRNeiklot's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Doesn't matter if you buy/play the game or not, we (backers) already covered its budget. Also read the updates. There should be a disclaimer for new users entering the P:E discussion boards to read all the updates before making a thread to complain about problems that don't exist, or play Game Dev Jr. and propose Obsidian use some meticulously detailed d20-derivative system of their own design for P:E's combat that flies in the face of all the confirmed info on its combat system. -
Well, there aren't going to be characters from any other game because that would be copyright infringement. Not to mention the fact that you people (we all know who I mean,) have a rather insulting expectation that Obsidian's writers need to copy bad characters from other games. I don't understand where you (the ones who think P:E's characters are going to be directly lifted/plagiarized or carbon copies of characters from other games, there are multiple threads on this subject,) get this idea.

Type of Romances you liked
AGX-17 replied to Ulquiorra's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You know he hates writing romance, right? Why have them at all if you want one of the best writers in video game history to be forced to write things he can't stand? How does that improve the game in any way? Or do you just want MCA to suffer? -
Why would your own personal experience apply to most South Africans? I'd imagine the black majority doesn't feel any kinship with Australians, especially of the Anglo-Saxon variety. Anyway, since my sister is staying with her Kiwi boyfriend in Brisbane, I'll construct an island detention facility on foreign soil for people caught trying to illegally enter the country by seas.

While I fully understand your skepticism, I think you missed the part that said "The primary focus of this campaign targets countries in Eastern Europe, former USSR Republics and countries in Central Asia" This isn't a omniscient firm, and it's safe to assume that most governments do not issue public announcements for every attempt made to breach the security of their computer networks. Not all information is freely available to everyone, elsewise this report, and others like it, would have no reason for existing.
-
So, I take it you don't read the updates or watch the update videos. The basic combat concepts have already been fleshed out and implemented and are in place in the game's current state. Slashing, piercing and crushing are the three types of phsyical damage, armor is Damage Threshold like New Vegas, slashing weapons work best on unarmored enemies, piercing works best on lightly/moderately armored enemies, crushing works best on heavily armored enemies, etc., melee range is going to be directly adjacent to the target unless using a spear, and other details. Most of what you've been thinking up is confirmed for "not in the game, not going to be." The game is not a simulation. They're not looking to create a computer model (D&D weapons aren't mathematical models of real weapons, either,) of real-world weapons and their performance.

Is that a video game? Do they have it on Steam?

Immoral and evil are different things. Theft isn't "evil" by most standards of morality. Morality itself is mostly subjective, a product of society, culture and biology. Morality is nothing more than a way for social animals to improve their survivability by minimizing conflict between members of the social group and dealing with those outliers who cannot or will not follow the rules. There are some few universal taboos, but there are many societies in which many behaviors the western world sees as true "evil" are considered not only permissible, but "good." Every moral situation should have its own context and its own unique consequences. Unless there are all-seeing/knowing gods who actively intervene in the affairs of mortals, there should be acts of true good that go unnoticed and unrewarded, and acts of pure evil that go unpunished, and everything in between.

Crimes and misdemeanors
AGX-17 replied to rjshae's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
As clear as it is that you'd love it if it were, P:E isn't going to be a medieval torture/maiming/mutilation simulator. Ciphers and Wizards aren't Chanters in P:E. When did they ever say that anyone but the Chanter class would use speech as the sole or primary basis for their magic or skills? Furthermore, being permanently crippled is ludicrous. That's just as game-ending as losing your head. How would a protagonist who would be better off with amputated legs be able to perform world-changing feats of combat? They've already stated that the game is being designed to be completable with the PC only, regardless of class. Which would mean in your vision of P:E, a Fighter who's incapable of walking could complete the entire game dragging himself through the mud with his hands and combating enemies all the while. Which is ridiculous. -
Isn't that burden on you as the player, not the developers and writers? I understand where you're coming from with the D&D alignment thing and similar concepts like Mass Effect's binary good (paragon) and evil (renegade,) but I think Obsidian of all devs will understand the concept of nuance and realistic human(esque) motivations. That said, even in the real world, people who do "evil" things typically do them for one of two reasons: 1. They want to acquire some good or perform some act to satisfy a desire, and they choose to do so in a way considered immoral or unlawful by their community/society. A thief steals something he or she wants because it's easier than working many hours to acquire the money necessary to purchase the good or service, or they are economically and socially excluded from any possibility of attaining it through legal means. Obviously there are exceptions when it comes to people who are mentally ill (i.e. psycho/sociopaths.) 2. They are part of a larger organization and have been convinced that they are doing something for the greater good. Psychological studies have found that being part of a group makes it easier for people to behave in "evil" fashion, even when they know and believe what they are doing is "evil." Sometimes they want to fit in, other times they have been convinced by their superiors that they must do some evil as a means to a morally "good" end.

But computers can't compute infinity! Anyway, accidentially killed a merchant in Dark Souls, so I had to abandon 6 hours of playtime with my first character. Poor class choice from what I've since learned, anyway. So I made a thief and did worse and a pyromancer and did better. Except for the time when my very first invader showed up, and was invincible, and killed me. Meanwhile, got the 20 female ace pilots trophy for SRWOG2nd. Also I joined a game of Borderlands 2 and the host had modded his game so that every locker had orange gear in them. This was a level 12ish game. So now I've got a Mechro with all orange equipment at level 14.

Went to weird art gallery. Saw weird things. I could be an artist, these people are overrated. If I shat on a pedestal I could probably get pretentious wealthy people to admire it. If I were a real artist I'd photograph/video those pretentious (let's be honest, mostly white,) people admiring my ****, and then put that on display as a work of art in itself.

Legally Obscene: Rape, Statutory Rape, and Child Support
AGX-17 replied to lord of flies's topic in Way Off-Topic
It's not honor killing. What can known about honor these cowardly loosers, who kill only because they try hide something incriminating thing? Real honor killings not different from Vendetta or Blood Feud. In other words, its when family opens a quest for "blood revenge" to kill the person they consider guilty of murdering or raping their relative. It's practice prevent crime in tribal communities. When a Pakistani girl is raped, and her family murders her to preserve "family honor," that's what I'm referring to by "honor killings." That's what those people who do it call it. That's what the term means in the English-speaking world. Middle Eastern immigrants do these things even in Western countries where they should know it's obviously illegal and carries severe punishments. One woman in England recently bludgeoned her young son to death because he couldn't memorize the Koran. I'm not talking about blood feuds or tribal wars. Not that those are a good thing, either. Violence begets violence. That sort of paleolithic tribal mentality is why countries like Pakistan, Somalia and the Sudans are so chaotic and violent. When one man feels wronged, and he kills the man he believes wronged him, the family of the murdered man wants revenge so they kill the man who killed their own man, and the original killer's family demands vengeance on the family of the man he killed, and so on. They have tribal cattle-rustling wars that have been going on for decades in the Sudan region. How can any of these tribals be sure of who's guilty of what offense? I don't know how lawless, governmentally ineffectual and violent Russia is, so I can't comment on your claim that "true honor killings" are better than letting police and courts try and convict the guilty party. Yes, when I call things "stupid" that means I agree with them and support them. See, when I call you stupid, I'm complimenting you! Volourn, you are stupid. Compliment! More to the point, you avoided the real substance of my post, that this article is coming from a biased, misogynist source that believes that there's some feminist conspiracy ruling the world and oppressing the most oppressed of minorities, white American men. This cliche of feminazi fascists ruling the world that you believe in (you attributed support of this supposed legal decision to me, why shouldn't I attribute misogyny to you?) is the same thing that started that Tropes vs. Women in Video Games fiasco. In which your misogynist conspiracy theorist ilk showed their idiocy for the whole world to see. -

Dwarves are people born of a genetic condition, and dwarfism is a condition which occurs all over. Elves are Germanic in origin, not nordic. Norse and Germanic are two different things. The Germanic tribes who invaded/were invited/decided to stay and take the land of the kings who invited them to Britain were not culturally similar to the Norse/Viking rapers/raiders who later attacked the British isles. The Scandinavians and Danes were not welcomed as cultural brothers to Britain by the Anglo-Saxons.

Dark Souls on PS3. Most notable aspect of it thus far... its character facegen/customization system is identical to Oblivion's.

Legally Obscene: Rape, Statutory Rape, and Child Support
AGX-17 replied to lord of flies's topic in Way Off-Topic
It's not "unbelievably evil." The holocaust was unbelievably evil. Honor killings are unbelievably evil. It's stupid, if remotely objective and accurate. Something which I have serious doubts about. I'm not even clicking on that link because once I hovered over it and saw the URL, I could smell the rank malodor of "White men are the most oppressed minority in the history of the world, especially in America! Ron Paul 2008/2012/2016! Do you even know who John Galt is?" all over it.
