Josh Sawyer's tweets and teasers, part 2
Wormerine replied to Gfted1's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)That reminds me. What happened to ship upgrades with unique rooms and such? I assume they were scrapped in favour of those ship “items”. Most important of all - will we still have a room for all our pets?

Vancian caster discussion
He says that games should be designed around enviroment they will be played in. Importing mechanics from tabletop where enviroment and gameplay flow is different is not always the best way to go. Vancian or per-rest casting isn't bad idea within itself, but either needs enviroment to make those mechanics flourish or be change to something more suited to the rest of the game.

WTF are sidekicks?
Wormerine replied to Yosharian's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Well, well, well. It seems my recently finished playthrough of BG:EE+SoD was not a coincedence. Nope. Coming straight from finished BG:EE+SoD as well. My first time without Fronczewski’s familiar “You must gather your party before venturing forth”. Not quite the same but at least I don’t have to deal with dodgy translation anymore.

WTF are sidekicks?
Wormerine replied to Yosharian's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)You have no idea how many times I tried to do that. I managed to have a playthrough were Mazzy was a regular on my team. I started BG2 playthrough as well... I already doubt I will be capable of ditching Minsc, he is just too much fun.

What are you playing right now?
Refreshing Baldur’s Gates before Deadfire comes out. Finished BG1 earlier this week and installed, created character and explored a bit of starting dungeon of BG2 today. I bought EEs a while ago, and just now gave them a go. I like a lot of technical improvements - ingame UI scaling, zoom and easier looting made for a much more enjoyable experience. BG1 looked a bit weird on the updated engine. From what I seen BG2 presents itself much better. What really put me off EE are additions - new cinematic are horrible, luckily they kept originals for the sequel. New three companions stick out with writing and design. I planned to give them ago, but forced interactions turned me off. Luckily, today I discovered that EE releases come with a copy of original version (at least on GoG), which made me quite happy. Did anyone try Siege of Dragonspear? Does it provide any worth what so ever?

Resolved to fix Resolve!
I feel that removing an attribute would lead to a bigger ****storm, than keeping resolve as a "meh" stat. If the new "empower" system will be kept I imagine I will keep resolve mostly at 10, maybe except a high might/resolve mage, for a big DPS. Whenever, removing "resolve" would lead to major unforseen consequences, I can't say.

Request: Optional skull icons/above level notifiers + optional floating numbers
I am surprised it is not in the game already. In early streams when Josh pitched this “skull” addition he also mentioned it will be optional. I find it handy as gettting locked into an encounter two levels two high and having to reload isn’t my idea of fun and immersion either, but making it optional is a must.

Josh Sawyer's tweets and teasers, part 2
Wormerine replied to Gfted1's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)That’s, of course, assuming that what she did was wrong. And if what she did was wrong than creating false gods to save humans from their own idiocy was wrong. It’s valid to view those things as wrong. It’s valid to view those things as a necessary evil.

Josh Sawyer's tweets and teasers, part 2
Wormerine replied to Gfted1's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)That’s actually why I hope he will show up in Deadfire in some form. I really want to see how he changed through those 5 years. And him following troubles caused by Eothas make sense, though his goals might differ from yours. He also might not be useful as a companion anymore, due to rejecting Magran.

Why do you play the class that you do?
Wormerine replied to PneumaticFire's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I stopped trying to recreate myself in games for a while now and focus on creating fun characters instead. I will continue my character unchanged from PoE1. I picked an orlan. I had title interest in more traditional races and aumaua felt like a better fit for a physical class. I tend to favour spellcasters as back in IE games they were the only active ones, though it is not a case in PoE. Cipher was my choice as the idea seemed cool, I like crowd control and they don’t use per-rest system, which means I will actually use spells. Considering oppression Orlans face, I went for a distrustful, calculated, ex-merchant character, who always takes a side of a fellow orlan. On my second run I created an aumaua chanter as it was a class I didn’t use much on my first playthrough.

WTF are sidekicks?
Wormerine replied to Yosharian's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I am still not 100% sure what sidekicks actually are. We know they won’t have personal quest or story arc. Will they have banter, interjections and some interactions? If so, seems like a worthy addition. Even if they will be just implimented hirelings, they expand available classes to choose from to fill the roster. Why not have them? I for one won’t use mercenaries, while I might use a sidekick if I want to experiment with their class in my roster.

WTF are sidekicks?
Wormerine replied to Yosharian's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I absolutely loved Pallegina’s confrontation with Hylea. Other than that she was the first one I liked, due to being easier to understand is one of few characters to have “cool” aura around them, but on the long run not quite as memorable. Still, looking forward to seeing her in Deadfire.

WTF are sidekicks?
Wormerine replied to Yosharian's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Exactly. I his journey to realization how false and blind he is ends up being one of the most satisying companion arcs I have experienced. Twisted, memorable character, used and discarted by his Goddes, who is trying to make sense of it. To explain lies and deception in a way which makes sense to him. Because he couldn't have been foolish, he couldn't have been deceived. More of that in Deadfire, please.

Color-coded icons
Is an interesting idea, though wonder, if there are to many elements to neatly represent through colours. Ideally, they should be intuitive, but there are so many skills, attributes, classes and backgrounds. We are talking about +20 colour codes, which might not be much more readable than it is now. I would advocate for giving an option to toggle on written discriptions, instead of icons, as long as it won’t completely break UI.

WTF are sidekicks?
Wormerine replied to Yosharian's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Haha cute meme too bad he's absolutely right Durance spouts the most nonsensical **** ever [non-sens, -suh ns] noun 1.words or language having little or no sense or meaning. 2.conduct, action, etc., that is senseless, foolish, or absurd No, stop assigning traits to PoE companions which are not true. If you gonna criticize, please do so, but at least put a tiny bit of effort to recognize why you don't like them, instead of writing easily debunkable accusations. Yes, they are not likable. Yes, they are not fully formed until their conflict is fully revealed near the end of the game. But they are neither shallow, poorly developed and all banter and conversation their provide has content, reason, logic and consistency. Jan Jensen talks nonsense. Its fun nonsense but its nonsense notheless - "He loves to chat, but his stories are rarely coherent and make little logical sense. His stories usually revolve around made-up relatives that he makes up just for the given case and serve the sole purpose of amusing himself and/or his companions. Thus, he avoids giving out any information about his true beliefs and goals (if there are any)." Everything that Durance says is consistant with his character, history, world viewpoints, fears and goals. You learn about him, he learns about you, he is a horrible being but everything he says makes sense.

- Phoenix Point, the next game from X-COM creator Julian Gollop, now on Fig
Phoenix Point shaping up well indeed. I am really happy with what they showed in the demo regarding mechanics. Seems like they are adopting many of good ideas Firaxis XCOM had, while not making same mistakes - two point movement is gone, no pods, better bullet mechanics, resource for special abilities seems interesting. I thought chaos reborn was really neat, though not something I put much time into. Keeping my fingers crossed for Phoenix Point being the strategy/tactics game to play for a long time I have been waiting for.- Beta update?

Wormerine replied to Yosharian's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Yeah, we definitelly disagree based on personal preferences. I will give you that: many of companions in PoE aren’t likeable. Even lovely Eder, has a darker uncomfortable racist side to him. And that’s fine. That is what I like, that is depth. That’s what I find engaging. I like all the things you listed form BG. But those are merely entertaining. Things to chuckle at and move on. It’s like a marvel movie - colourful, energetic but won’t stay with me for long. - Phoenix Point, the next game from X-COM creator Julian Gollop, now on Fig
