Haha cute meme too bad he's absolutely right Durance spouts the most nonsensical **** ever [non-sens, -suh ns] noun 1.words or language having little or no sense or meaning. 2.conduct, action, etc., that is senseless, foolish, or absurd No, stop assigning traits to PoE companions which are not true. If you gonna criticize, please do so, but at least put a tiny bit of effort to recognize why you don't like them, instead of writing easily debunkable accusations. Yes, they are not likable. Yes, they are not fully formed until their conflict is fully revealed near the end of the game. But they are neither shallow, poorly developed and all banter and conversation their provide has content, reason, logic and consistency. Jan Jensen talks nonsense. Its fun nonsense but its nonsense notheless - "He loves to chat, but his stories are rarely coherent and make little logical sense. His stories usually revolve around made-up relatives that he makes up just for the given case and serve the sole purpose of amusing himself and/or his companions. Thus, he avoids giving out any information about his true beliefs and goals (if there are any)." Everything that Durance says is consistant with his character, history, world viewpoints, fears and goals. You learn about him, he learns about you, he is a horrible being but everything he says makes sense.

Phoenix Point shaping up well indeed. I am really happy with what they showed in the demo regarding mechanics. Seems like they are adopting many of good ideas Firaxis XCOM had, while not making same mistakes - two point movement is gone, no pods, better bullet mechanics, resource for special abilities seems interesting. I thought chaos reborn was really neat, though not something I put much time into. Keeping my fingers crossed for Phoenix Point being the strategy/tactics game to play for a long time I have been waiting for.

Yeah, we definitelly disagree based on personal preferences. I will give you that: many of companions in PoE aren’t likeable. Even lovely Eder, has a darker uncomfortable racist side to him. And that’s fine. That is what I like, that is depth. That’s what I find engaging. I like all the things you listed form BG. But those are merely entertaining. Things to chuckle at and move on. It’s like a marvel movie - colourful, energetic but won’t stay with me for long.

Wait.. What? I just bought bg2ee on android and that's better than i remembered... Dialogues are absolutely brilliant. Companions talk with each other, interact with you and with npcs... The interactions are far superior than poe 1 imho, and their personalities are developed a lot better (in poe, as in many other modern rpgs you get an npc and then you have to go through a wall of text having talking to them... While in bg2 the talking develop through the whole story). Some prersonal quests are easily forgettable (i.e. Keldorn) but some others are quite good. I can bet from now that dialogues wise bg2 will be still superior to poe (and that's decades later...) What I find interesting, now returning to Baldur's Gate after playing PoE, is that I am going through an "adjustment period", similar to the one I had to go through when playing PoE for the first time. And yes, I know that BG2 is better than BG1, but tone is more or less similar. I get annoyed how black an white conflicts are, how silly character are. Companions have little nuance (I am MINSC, and I talk to HAMSTER and I am STUPID). I am playing a thief and am trying to be a self centered character but its very difficult. In typical bioware fasion conversation choices range from psychotic **** to mother teresa, with little inbetween. After couple hours I started to think why I enjoyed those game at all, I recalled a feeling of adventure, and colourful characters and fun. And so I stopped trying to roleplay, or think and just started to follow threads game offers and I am enjoying it again. I stopped thinking about consequences of my actions because it is Baldurs Gate, and the world is black and white, and if you kill bad guys you do good, because they are bad guys and in this world they are nothing more than that. What I am trying to say is, that BG1&2 didn't have better developed characters - even at its best they are fairly basic. But they pop better. They have personalities that are clearly communicated, and that are fun. But they are more cartoons than humans, their conflict is basic and possible to resolve. The "problem" with PoE1 characters is that there is more to them than they are letting on. It takes time for them to open up. Finishing their quests leaves you with questions - you understand their conflict but it is beyond your skill to fix it. Even at the time BG was heavily out classed by Planescape when it comes to roleplaying, characters, writing. But it has a nice pace, and sense of fun, which makes it really approachable and easy to sink time into.

No, I have seen it. You are listing there things that Sunless Sea does that Deadfire doesn’t. I just don’t see how they have anything to do with Deadfire system, or how Deadfire would benefit by implementing them. You want your crew to make babies? Or go insane? Or jump of the ship or coming suicide after you went through a quest to recruit them? Some of them are also incorrect. Deadfire has different ships which vary in layout, crew, cannon capacity, possibly more. Crew have different skills, making them more fit for different positions. Ships jobs are hardly unrealistic. If there is an additional job which could be added and would add an interesting functionality which isn’t in Deadfire yet, I am sure a suggestion would be welcome.

I actually am. Sort of. Slowly wrapping BG1 right now. I am appreciating PoE1 so much more now. Weren’t romances linear developments which you could do, or not do? Don’t take me wrong, BG2 has still my fav romances in all RPGs but wouldn’t say that they had much depth - they weren’t very interactive or responsive to you as a character. What was great in BG2 was how character interacted and were aware of each other. It something that was lost along the way. It always bothered me in later RPG than except some flavour banter companions seemed to live in their own pocket planes. In Dragon Age I would be a different character for every companion and there wasn’t much crossover. I hope for relationship system to restore (and expand?) those dynamics.

It is not. There are some things you can do in PoE that you can't do in Pirates! (like that you have to give orders to crew manually) but it is not a more complex ship game. That said Pirates! wasn't terribly complex. The way world was systemic and changed as factions fought for control was neat, but core mechanics were realyl basic.

The Outer Worlds Trademarks (Obsidian's AAA RPG?)
Wormerine replied to UrbaNebula's topic in Obsidian General
Was Fallout: New Vegas even AAA? What does AAA mean anymore except a game with confusing preorders, season passes or lootboxes? No matter how small or big the budget is: I am interested. -

No, the Crones' true forms are freaking disgusting. Like, revolting. I am not a native english speaker, so my intuition might be off, but calling someone "ugly" is quite rough, isn't it? Someone who is really unpleasant to look at. They don't sell intended character - thats what I am bother by (and by bothered by I mean: roll my eyes. I really don't care enough to have any strong emotional reaction). PoE is not a gym or a mall simulator. I find it just as absurd as I would an attempt to sexy up Durance. Just... why? Why can we have Humphrey Boghart or Jack Nicholson but every female character gets reduced to: "is she bangable or not". I think she looks spot on. Her skin seems a bit darker in the new portraits but thats about it. Same hard and proud expression. EDIT: I am sorry for messing up the thread. If I knew consequences of my snark I would keep it to myself.- 745 replies

Being ugly somehow makes a character more unique? Interesting. Anyway, it's escapism. Not sure what's wrong with wanting attractive characters in your fantasy game. "Ugly" is quite an extreme discription. Crones in Witcher 3 are ugly. Those original portraits simply look more like real people, instead of a glam photos for a cover of Vogue. I really can't say anything about Yidwin or Xoti as I now nothing about them, but that is not Pallegina. I just find desire to edit female character portraits to be more sexually appealing... curious. "Really?" That said: quality work. They do look very good. I must say, I am shocked how my throwaway snark poked a beehive. -
Sure, why not. Without a new beta build I could use some extra entertainment.

We've been bamboozled gentlemen, should I get our pitchforks ready? Not really, Beta build was released in early February. There was no promise of a new beta this week from Obs,

Ahh, nothing like sucking any unique characteristics out of your companions in favour of making TVshow babes out of them.- 745 replies

How could we possibly know any of this stuff? No one here played 1.0. 1) It has been claimed that Deadfire will run more or less like PoE1. Whenever they will reach this goal remains to be seen. On steam and gog Specs are copied from PoE but they are placeholder and are a subject to change. Beta is a seperate build so it’s not representative of the current, or future state of the game. Optimisation is one of the last things to do in development. In other words: We won’t know how it runs until game releases or reviews come out. There are multiple promises by Josh that it will run much better. Deadfire has double the VO budget of PoE1. How it translates to the game we don’t know. The next update is about audio so maybe we will learn something more.

But there's a preorder that incudes a dlcs. Its a season pass sort of situation. DLC will be made and released months after the main game. During the fig campaign DLC was added as a seperate addon. You have received by now a key for your main order (base game) as it is what is being finalized right now. DLC will be delivered as a seperate key closer to release of each one. There wasn't a tier which would include DLC by default, so those keys will be seperate for everyone that backed via fig. With preorders is a bit different because the highest tier already includes them (therefore one key). Don't worry you will get your DLC in due time. There is no reason to worry about it right now.

They usually release on thursdays (or early Fridays my time). I think all talk so far has been purely speculative.

Bought it right now and am currently installing. Was waiting for this since it was announced - and then forgot about it on release date! They dropped the RNG, which works for this type of game. Reminds me somewhat of Klei’s Invisible Inc. as a tactics game where results of your actions are 100% predictable and yet leads to some really unexpected situations.

They just want us to suffer for all the complaining about game mechanics.
