Wormerine replied to iscalio's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Being ugly somehow makes a character more unique? Interesting. Anyway, it's escapism. Not sure what's wrong with wanting attractive characters in your fantasy game. "Ugly" is quite an extreme discription. Crones in Witcher 3 are ugly. Those original portraits simply look more like real people, instead of a glam photos for a cover of Vogue. I really can't say anything about Yidwin or Xoti as I now nothing about them, but that is not Pallegina. I just find desire to edit female character portraits to be more sexually appealing... curious. "Really?" That said: quality work. They do look very good. I must say, I am shocked how my throwaway snark poked a beehive. -
Sure, why not. Without a new beta build I could use some extra entertainment.

We've been bamboozled gentlemen, should I get our pitchforks ready? Not really, Beta build was released in early February. There was no promise of a new beta this week from Obs,

Ahh, nothing like sucking any unique characteristics out of your companions in favour of making TVshow babes out of them.- 745 replies

How could we possibly know any of this stuff? No one here played 1.0. 1) It has been claimed that Deadfire will run more or less like PoE1. Whenever they will reach this goal remains to be seen. On steam and gog Specs are copied from PoE but they are placeholder and are a subject to change. Beta is a seperate build so it’s not representative of the current, or future state of the game. Optimisation is one of the last things to do in development. In other words: We won’t know how it runs until game releases or reviews come out. There are multiple promises by Josh that it will run much better. Deadfire has double the VO budget of PoE1. How it translates to the game we don’t know. The next update is about audio so maybe we will learn something more.

But there's a preorder that incudes a dlcs. Its a season pass sort of situation. DLC will be made and released months after the main game. During the fig campaign DLC was added as a seperate addon. You have received by now a key for your main order (base game) as it is what is being finalized right now. DLC will be delivered as a seperate key closer to release of each one. There wasn't a tier which would include DLC by default, so those keys will be seperate for everyone that backed via fig. With preorders is a bit different because the highest tier already includes them (therefore one key). Don't worry you will get your DLC in due time. There is no reason to worry about it right now.

They usually release on thursdays (or early Fridays my time). I think all talk so far has been purely speculative.

Bought it right now and am currently installing. Was waiting for this since it was announced - and then forgot about it on release date! They dropped the RNG, which works for this type of game. Reminds me somewhat of Klei’s Invisible Inc. as a tactics game where results of your actions are 100% predictable and yet leads to some really unexpected situations.

They just want us to suffer for all the complaining about game mechanics.

in a hypothetical situation where empower would not be “per-rest” - why have it at all? It’s only role is to echo per-rest mechanic of previous games. Once that element is taken away, I don’t think “empower” has much reason to exist anymore.

It really shouldn't be. It was reported by Josh (and it is true in beta) that conversation checks refering to attributes are fairly rare. Game tends to checks skills (athletics, deplomacy, bluff, intimidation etc.) more often now.

Strongly disagree. There is a ruleset. game should follow its own rules.

EDIT. Nevermind. Given out already. Hey folks. I got a spare gog key for FTL. If anyone would be interested, reply.

None offence taken, didn’t take it as anything else than a critique of multiclassing system. I just don’t think contrasting work which goes into companions with their lack of mechanical flexibility to be a worthwhile argument, as work which is put into them goes into defining them, rather than making them as customisable as possible. I wonder what was the big obstacle, that made them simplify the system. Multiclassing screen is already there for PC. Maybe they wanted to make a clear division between lore approved picks and “it’s on you” ones?

Pillars Bugs continue to spoil gameplay
Wormerine replied to CJQ's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
I am just curious how you play to make all those things happen. I played through PoE1 three times, between release on WM2 till now (didn’t play with the newest Deadfire pack addon). The only bug I encountered throughout three playthroughs was a singular journal entry not updating. Oh, and there is (was?) this annoying bug with keep adventure UI, which made me call back an assigned companion by accident too many times. -
I am replaying BG:EE right now, and I have been looking for stuff that PoE is missing and that could be borrowed. PoE doesn’t have moral mechanic - though I am not sure if I miss my characters running around in panic and getting killed when getting to low health. Getting lower/higher resistance to moral with resolve seems like a good fit but I am not so hot on the mechanic itself.

Yearly on, when there was an outcry due to Yidwin now becoming a full companion, there was a mention that it is possible for current sidekick to br turned into a full companion and provide a new sidekick with an expansion. Expanding roster is always welcome, and I doubt they will be creating many companions considering how complex they are supposed to be. They are so complex and deep and rich and costly to implement, but remember, if you want to experience the multiclassing system to its fullest, just go get some hirelings! ????? If you are trying to make some kind of point you will have to elaborate further. I don’t think I have to point out that companions take a lot of work because of how defined they are.

Just played "Into the Breach" for about an hour (new tactics game from FTL people). It's really really good. Seems like those guys have some serious design chops, not just one hit wonder.

The thing is... do you want shock1 or not? I didn't play shock1 but the only reason I have interest in the project is because I wanted to play Shock1. I am playing through Baldur's Gate1: EE. All the technical improvements are great. I am not a fan of creative changes - whenever it is use of BG2 system, changes to design, new companions etc. Not that BG1 was perfect - far from it. But when I play BG1 I want to play BG1, and removing and adding elements to BG1 is messing with what the game is.

I think my favourite was of doing is assigning what abilities can be upgraded with given class (for example arcana, alchemy, explosives, metaphysics, history for a wizard) and allow players to distribute skill points among those on their own. Same with backgrounds. Some choices make more sense to me than others, even though between different people I seem to disagree which ones should change. <shrug> I allow bonuses dictate my background and culture for the most part, so whatever.

It’s a shame. Never played Shock1, loved Shock2, Deus Ex and Thief games (first two at least). I was hoping for this remake to be an opportunity to play it in a shinier form. Departure from a straight up remake was a disappointment and current state of affairs is disappointing indeed. Systemshock 3 is still happening, so hopefully that will turn out alright. That said, as a not backer, I find it difficult to be angry or really care. Devs proved themselves unreliable and will have a black mark from me, until they manage to regain their trust. Product can not come out and that is a part of a Crowdfunding. The problem seems similar to that of Broken Age - dev getting too excited with response and trying to deliver something “bigger” than they pitched. No one asked for a redesign, reconstruction, reimagining. Broken Age was to be a small, nostalgic point&click - Systemshock a straight up remake. We didn’t get either of those things.

Josh wanted players to be able to multiclass their companions however they like, with lore explanation being up to the player. If ya wanted your Eder to be a priest or a mage or a chanter it was up to you. The change was never made from ideological reasons but practical ones. Quoting another Josh explenation from Deadfire stream no. 8. He isn't against it, but it seems developing UI to support more broad multiclassing system from companions required more resources than they were believed was worth it. Maybe it will become more flexible with future patches, probably not. It is how it is. If you are not happy with what is provided, feel free to express your displeasure so devs can see it and maybe expand companion multiclassing in the future. "How will multiclassing for companions work? JS: I actually addressed this last time so I don't want to go through it a ton of times again, but there are technical issues that will make it a little difficult for us to do true unlimited multiclassing and respeccing with companions. Right now we have something in where it's basically three main sort of multiclassing options for every character, or rather, there's a base class and two multiclass options. That's what we're currently using. That can expand in the future. I don't want to get everyone's hopes crazy up, nor do I want to say it's impossible, but it is — we basically did an analysis of how expensive it would be to rework the character creation and leveling up system to handle that, and it was not a small amount of work. So, before I say, "Yeah, we're definitely going to do it", I have to caution you that we might not have the time to do that. At least at launch. That's how that is currently."
