Alpha Protocol is probably one of my most replayed games ever. Even back then when it was released, I played through it at least 7 times in a row.2 points

hot take: well done RTWP is miles above the best turn-based system, because it's happening on a computer, and we don't need every game to be a "tabletop-like". the computer can calculate everything very fast and just show me how the state changed, and it can do it continuously. I don't need to wait for the "enemy" to take its turn. it's a user experience issue rather than a fundamental combat design issue.2 points

So what didn't I play? Grounded (not on gog + ewwww multiplayer), Pentiment (not on gog), Dungeon Siege 3 (started it, but dropped and all I remember was a long linear corridor of bashing dudes. The older I get the more necessary the story is for me to not get bored with a game) and South Park (I have it on EA storefront and one day I'll muster courage to deal with EA storefront, real soon now ). KOTOR 2. First game of Obs I played. Also first game I went to whine about on social network because I was so angry about the ending, it was my etalon for horrible, terrible, no good disappointing endings until along came "Lost" and dropped the bar into deep deep abyss. It really stood out because everything up to it was so, so good. Helped me to figure out my own love/hate relationship with Star Wars. Neverwinter Nights 2. An example of how people who know how to write can elevate even the most derivative cookie-cutter setting. This is also the game that taught me RPG systems are fun. Before it, I countered all my problems by dropping difficulty. Didn't work on that red dragon. Had to read about how to beat her and -- "Oh hey, there's the whole system in it?! " I think I played every class there except fighters and barbarians because those are boring. And then there's Mask of the Betrayer which is Alpha Protocol. I don't know how many playthroughs of it I did. Something between 10 and 20, and that's only because I really sucked at it, if I were any good I prolly wouldn't have stopped playing it. Anyway, none of those playthroughs were like the other. I remember how I tried to goad Konrad into fighting me, but because I was on "Biiiitch. As$hole!" relationship with Madison he deduced Mikey wasn't genuine and bolted. And how it took like hours to down Brayko on a SMG run. SIE best girl. Fallout New Vegas. That's my videogame home, the place where I feel well, at home. I got the "I'm home..." feeling instantly as I left Doc's house. Then the game promptly crashed. Anyway, my PC was too weak for it and I haven't tried to play it for quite some time. Which was for the best given it's buggy launch infamy. Still haven't done a Legion run, there's something too realistically reprehensible about their brand of evil. Tyranny. All I knew was "You play a bad guy" so it was extremely pleasant surprise to find so detailed, rich world and lore. Also the art, the music, the magic system, the almost Alpha-Protocol levels of variables, it's all so I don't much care the ending was kinda eh. I don't have a clear favorite Obsidian game, rather a crowded little plateau on a peak where games constantly fight for a title. Tyranny is the most frequent winner there. Pillars of Eternity. Kickstarted it as by then I knew chances were high I'll love it. Then it sat in my game reserve of "If all games from now on gonna be rubbish I'll still have this". Didn't get into it from the start because it looked like yet another bog-standard vaguely medievalish fantasy with dorfs and elfs, yawnorama, but in the second attempt I reached the hanging tree and got hooked. Somewhen mid-game I found out there's a sequel and that was the first time I've heard of it. Insta-bought. Deadfire. It could be my second home because it's so pretty and music is great, and characters are alive, and I want to make separate build for every interesting weapon, and the amount of hours I sunk into it is in quadruple digits, if not for the fact it fried my video card once, keeps attempting to do so again and I remember these things. Still, another frequent champion of the plateau. Like, everything in it just clicks with me. The Outer Worlds. ... ... I don't know what happened. Like, I liked all the separate parts. Art. Music. Setting. Environment. "Corporations are the devil" schtick. First two companions are really good. Dialogs are witty. Weapons are nice. But the sum of all parts somehow turns into perfect representation of "Meh".2 points

A Berserker/FF with high RES isn't confused for long (confusion duration and frenzy duration are not tied) and gets +1 wounds once the confusion ends. You can also use Hylea's Talons in order to give yourself the DoT. Again the self damage won't give you wounds - but the duration will be rather short with high RES (and Clarity of Agony) and once it ends you get +1 wound. Both times you also get a little health back. Also Crucible of Suffering will kick in both times. So you'll have two sources of hostile effects in addition to the FF curse. So Berserker/FF isn't that bad wit wound generation as it appears at first glance. Rooting Pain will hit yourself while you are confused. The confusion won't last very long with high RES etc. - but it's still incredibly annoying when you interrupt yourself (and party members) with your own Rooting Pain (and won't even get a wound from the damage it causes). You can circumvent that with Enlightened Agony (cancel the confusion with smart right away after casting Frenzy). Or you use Modwyr in the second weapon slot to remove the confusion. Both ways you'll still get the wound and Crucible I believe. If you use Devil of Caroc's Breastplate with resistance you will prevent the confusion from coming over you alltogether - but you won't get a wound and the crucible bonus either. Hm wait a sec... could it be that the debuff from Engoliero do Espirs (-2/-3 to some stats) is listed as hostile effect and could you generate wounds by switching to and from the weapon? Never tried.1 point

Okie Dokie KoTor 2 - I originally played this before the first one on a friend's xbox when I was either in elementary or middle school. It blew my mind. Coming back to it years later as an adult I found it was rough around the edges but still largely held up. NWN2 - I was a big 3.5 guy back in middle school and high school, so I played the **** out of this. MotB remains one of the best dnd things I have ever played, og campaign was meh and the other expansion was cool but not really my thing. Fallout: New Vegas - Probably one of the best games I have ever played. I finished it once because I have a terminal case of rerollitis but I PoE - On paper I should love this game, but on release I hated it because the way it came together it was just too damn tedious. After expansions and polishing it I find it to be ok to good but still missing something. Deadfire - As with the orignal, on paper I should love it but in practice I just don't. It didn't have as rocky of a release as PoE but at it's worst it's very tedious. Also I got killed more by traps than by combat lmao, because they made trap detection only influenced by Perception and only give one companion with good perception and I didn't take the gun lady with me as much. And I thought that 5 man party just felt odd, but I tend to prefer even numbers. Tyranny - An ok sidestory game, but not very memorable. The rest I haven't played much of or I forgot about them.1 point

I love Deep Rising, Stephen Sommers film before THE MUMMY (1999). That said, they could have not killed Una Damon's character so early as I liked her banter with Kevin J. O'Conner and Treat Williams and it'd have been nice to keep the crew together for longer. Loads of fun actors in support too (Wes Studi, Jason Flemyng, Anthony Held, and Djimon Hounsou from the top of my head).1 point

Since you're releasing a patch a decade after the fact, please tell me you'll use the opportunity to fix those missing and wrong BESTIARY entries for several creatures (particularly annoying in the White March with the creature variants and some bosses). I mean, it's not even coding, no real time or effort required, just correcting a few Excel-like text table entries, and the effect is actually more noticeable in the enjoyment of the game than some of those super-rare bugs most people never encountered. Thanks for considering.1 point

Owlcat's writing improved a LOT in Rogue Trader. Goes to show what a comprehensive setting with a detailed lore bible can do. Owlcat is doing a better job at it than a lot of Games Workshop's own Black Library authors. Which is not much praise, come to think of it, taking into account my opinion of those authors.1 point

The main thing I like about Obsidian is the writing quality. Gameplay can be hit or miss with me, but I know when I buy an Obsidian title, it will be well written. I'm pretty sure I've played them all, except that Pathfinder card game and the tank game they helped with. There are a lot of other developers that can't pull off the writing Obsidian does. Bethesda. Owlcat. Larian. The list goes on. Obsidian can write circles around them.1 point

Dune (logo read like DUNC) Spice wars is ok so far, went through tutorials, so doing a learning game for now. Gone back to Overwatch 2, I miss the loot boxes, at least I'd get occasional skins, going DPS and essentially throwing - I will try but I am awful so the team fails. But at least I get to giggle at the people raging.1 point

As much as I'm a fan of Obsidian, I've only ever played three of their games: NwN2, PoE, and PoE2. This is mainly because I have not been willing, in the past, to go outside of fantasy setting based RPGs for my games. And for me, all three of these games were fantastic!1 point

I've figured out how to mod it so that it's not just a 90 degree angle. But before I go nuts with this, I just want to confirm it's not already been done. Welp, the answer better be no, because I couldn't wait And here we are!1 point

I played Kotor 2 completely once, but unlike many I did not enjoy it as much as the original. I felt it was trying too hard to be edgy and moral grey. I finished FO:NV once. I played quite a lot, but again, Obsidian's way of writing "moral dilemmas" I find meh. Obviously, humanity has proven time and time again, that Obsidian has a better understanding of humans than I have. People really do believe that between state funded healthcare and Caesar's Legion, the raping mass murderers are the lesser evil. PoE1 I played. I enjoyed the beginning. It got so tedious, I could not see myself to complete it, and it killed my interest in the story. NVN2 I enjoyed and found one of the better written RPGs. I also think that it fell into the post- Planescape Torment trap of every NPC having to be this unique out of the ordinary, breaking conventions of NPCs attempt, which made me long for plain boring party members. Which Outer World had and which made the game so refreshing. I think I finished Dungeon Siege 3 twice...1 point

Following the first topic about "Fast Switching shield" and from the discovery @tackthumb find (in the comments of the second link, below) There is two weapons you can switch between them to create a "breaking loop", the first as buff for your party, and the second as most powerful CC effect for enemies with shield or meidum/heavy armor. Of course, some other weapons could be great for fast switching character, but these ones are certainly the most impressives. For AI script: Have weapon set 1 and weapon set 2 with the weapons or schield you want to switch between. Then, if you set up a script with whatever trigger (e.g.you have a Constitution affliction, set to NO) that simply switches between weapon sets all the time (gets executed per game loop - so several times per second). (from @Boeroer explanation in the first topic, below) * The first weapon is restricted to Chanter, it is Sasha'S Singing Scimitar with the enchantment Companion's Prelude. According to the Wiki description, Aura: 2% stacking Action Speed bonus for each held Chanter Phrase). The Action Speed bonus is working on current action for them in the aura. That mean, for each Scimitar switch, the bonus is applied and cut the action time for the party (the weapon animation like the reload move for Arbalest is not skipped however). So with a chanter who constantly switch between these weapon sets the party will benefit from chant + scimitar buff. Multiclassed with a rogue to riposte when attacked, with some armor like Blackened Plate Armor or Kāhako Nihi, etc, used to link an Ectopsychic Echo or Dimensional Shift, summoning many lives skellies, etc, this character locked is not unactive of course. * The second weapon can be used by anyone, and he dont need to be locked for the whole fight : Thundercrack Pistol with the enchantment Charged Field (Aura (excludes self): -10% Action Speed, -5 Melee Accuracy (if a shield, medium armor, or heavy armor is equipped). So however have one of these items is instantly "stunned" by an indefinitely extended recovery time (like for Strand of Favor, +10% recovery time each time the AI switche to the pistol give quickly some absurd numbers). It is also doable in solo run because once you have "charged" enemies for some IRL minutes, you are free to stop the AI script and take a regular weapon : enemies will stay charged for a long time. This is a nice way to try some stuffs on some bosses. To illustrate my point, Dorudugan was locked down after his first hit against my lvl13 party, for the test. Too bad none of my characters could hit him because their too low level, and after some minutes IRL of Fast Switching Weapon, my character with the Thundercrack Pistol did stop the AI script : Dorudugan was stopped for at less one hour IRL at this point. Of course, not everyone are concerned by the conditions, but be careful to not have a character in your party with one of them, or you should wait - with no way to know how many time. Berath and Eothas have an armor by the way, so technically a level 1 watcher with any Miss-to-graze item can kill them... Link mentionned on top of the topic :1 point

Yeah, the PL scaling from 1 is nice (both for ACC and also damage). And I particularly like the CC effect that switches off most single foes immediately - and that it feels so affordable. And the additional Carnage trick is pretty cool, too and sort of free additional (raw) damage. But I guess the best part is that Efficient Anguish is fueld by wounds - which are potentially an inexhaustible resource. Imo there is no other martial attack ability that gives you so much impact for the (non-scarce) resource you are investing. Since I like the combo Berserker/Helwalker so much I have to say that the cost of 1 wound almost feels like nothing - because the wounds keep piling up so damn quickly from the synergy of Frenzy self damage+Wound Trait that I cannot spend them all with Efficient Anguish alone. Being able to spam Efficient Anguish with no pause is maybe a big part of why it feels so powerful against most singular foes to me (even enemies like Neriscyrlas usually go perma-prone with the help of a fellow priest for some more ACC). BUT this might not be the same for other Barb/Monk combos, so maybe it feels more expensive then and less good - I don't know. But still it's way more affordable than let's say 1 Guile for Crippling Strike, 1 Discipline for Knockdown/Piercing Strike, 1 Zeal for FoD or even 2 Rage for a Barbaric Smash (without refund) or so. Since I only use Barbaric Smash as finisher (it's total overkill but just too much fun) I seldomly pay anything for it. I find it way too expensive to use it as a regular attack.1 point

But I wasn't talking about Brute Force. As I explicitly wrote the combo Barb/Monk with Efficient Anguish lets you deliberately target Fortitude or Deflection based on what's (potentially) lower even without Brute Force: Simply because Efficient Anguish targets Fortitude (and stuff like Stunning Surge or Barbaric Smash do not). But that wasn't the main point why this combo is good against single targets. It just adds virtual accuracy in most fights which is good. Main point: since Efficient Anguish adds Carnage damage to the main target (and that adds viability against single targets) and because its one of the best martial attacks against single targets in the first place (PL1 scaling, CC/interrupt on the fly) you want to use it against single foes. But it targets Fortitude and thus using a Morning Star, Spirit Frenzy and Enervating Blows is the smartest approach for exploiting this additional damage potential against single foes. Additional benefits of the Morning Star: in combination with Saru Sichr and Swift Flurry/HbD it also helps to make the DoT of the weapon land crits (because it always targets fortitude). Making it more likely for the DoT to crit greatly increases the chance to trigger crit chains with SF/HBD which significantly improves the performance against (weaker) singular foes (for example casters). Yet another advantage is the stacking DoT which is powerful (if not immune). I don't use BPM so I don't know what details may work there or not. Wasn't aware that Saru Sichr works differently there.1 point

I agree it's a user experience. I prefer as the use to have the time to plan out my moves, then have the computer respond, and then I get to respond and plan again. That's why I don't think you can say one is better than the other. It's like saying chocolate ice cream is miles above vanilla ice cream. They are just different flavors. I prefer vanilla, in case you need to know. But I'll put some chocolate chip on top to spice it up.0 points

Got this email from JuiceMedia.... "Just a quick message to keep you in the loop about recent developments following our latest Honest Government Ad | Visit Tasmania! - which covers the coming state election On Monday we received this takedown notice from Tasmania's Electoral Commission after it received a complaint - from somebody [thinking emoji] - claiming our latest Honest Government Ad breached s196 the Tasmanian Electoral Act by showing a photo of the Tasmanian Premier. In a satirical video. One week out from an election. Apparently you can go to jail for that in Tasmania. Cool and normal." After which followed a new email "Part 2! As you may have heard, the Tasmanian Electoral Commission claimed that our latest Honest Government Ad breached the Tasmanian Electoral Act by showing a photo of the Tasmanian Premier (a heinous crime that carries a penalty of up to 12 months imprisonment). Being the law-abiding citizen that I am, I decided to remove the video from all our pages (except YouTube, where the video is still online) I spoke with a journalist from the Guardian today expressing my feelings about that, which you can read in this article. But I wouldn’t want this to suggest that The Juice Media is intimidated by such attempts to silence political speech and #Genuine Satire in the lead up to a crucial state election. Which is why we quickly got to work and republished the video to all our pages, with a special new preface by the Tasmanian Government - which we hope will satisfy all authorities concerned. You can watch it here on YouTube, or here on Twitter or on Facebook or Insta" Yes, a lot of links got removed by me, just in case. Welcome to Australia, where the politicians are almost as venomous as the critters....0 points
