If BG3 can win for its "story" and "characters," then why not Starfield for "most innovative gameplay"?3 points

Based on my recent testing (non-modded deadfire), it seems that the Imbue Missiles ability, when empowered, can potentially grant many inspirations. That being said, I was using the Kitchen Stove with Wild Barrage on the opening boat scene, but I don't seem to be getting the same level of success with other imbues or other abilities in general of the ranger. Just thought this might be a good thing to add to the list of Least Unstable Coil spells/abilities to use with. EDIT: It may have something to do with the Powder Burns modal and multiple enemies being nearby, I think; the Blast modal for rods also got me 5 inspirations with an empowered Imbue Missiles.2 points

I bought Marvel: Midnight Suns on the Steam sale. The gist of the reviews seemed to be that the turn-based combat is a win, but there's a lot of socializing in the base that drags on. Struggling with loneliness, this sounded like a plus to me. The first 10-15 hours have mostly been good. The characters are well-written and the combat is fun, but the missions are already getting stale. 95% of the battles have been against 3-4 varieties of henchmen, the combat maps are tiny and contain identical environmental items. Normal mode is too easy and harder difficulty levels have to be unlocked, which is dumb. I knew what I was getting into with the social part, but I have to admit that there's a whole lot of it. Every combat mission is bookended by 30-60 minutes of talking to your teammates, taking them on 'dates', improving your base, etc. This increases your relationships and unlocks team attacks. I accept this because I knew what I was getting into and it's done well, but there's also a whole bunch of collectables (crap) to run around and find. You don't strictly have to, and I've been avoiding it, but it unlocks new powers and more junk. Ultimately though, it's the repetitive combat missions that I'm getting tired of, and I did not expect that. The combat system is not the problem and it's still early, so I'm hopeful that the fights will improve.2 points

It's voted by users, so it's kinda interesting compared to stuff just selected by pundits.1 point

Or maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment. Saying that, this is one of the rare manga that has a story to tell and sticks to it, not trying to sell chapters and all that.1 point

Contempt (1963) I did a @Bartimaeus and broke my brain on this one. The cut I watched on Criterion (recently remastered I think) did this thing where when the score would kick in and it was just exceedingly loud and distracting. I think if it wasn't for that I'd have rated the movie as being great, and there are indeed some fantastic shots and compositions, but the score just bursting out was like driving a pickaxe through my ear. Crimes of Passion (1984) This got sold to me as being very wild, and in many ways it was. But again there was one aspect I didn't like that really sunk it for me and that was the China Blue persona being played as.....I dunno a sassy girlboss when dealing with the tricks. Tonally it just reminded me of some Joss Whedon stuff, which I have grown to absolutely despise. I think that if it was just delivered a little differently or if there were more focus on Joana Crane than that'd be much better.1 point

We're probably just going to get motion smoothing. I spelunk around B to Z grade films all the time, and stinkers as stinky as "Blood Mummy" are rare, but I also have a high tolerance for a lot of the things that would utterly break a film for you.1 point

Solo Leveling is a Korean manga or manhwa. What carries it is the artwork and how well it translates to an anime idk. The biggest issue with it is that1 point

Whatever it does, it doesn't come even close to the device in the movie. But it makes me wonder if there was even more advanced stuff made back then and lost without a trace.1 point

@BruceVCMy theory as to the unusually high undecided percentage is that the choices that people perceive to have are so spectacularly awful. If you subscribe to the view that you only have 2 choices, obviously I don't (look at my sig, I mean the link not the gif of Suzu Suzuki performing a Sky Twister Press), then you are presented with 2 downright despicable candidates. I mean, the term "lesser of 2 evils" gets used a lot but it's especially apt this election. You couldn't get me to vote for either Biden or The Donald unless it was at gunpoint, and even then I might seriously consider saying "pull the trigger, ***hole."1 point

Old thread - Lol. Eh, B movies are broader than just being untalented - often times you have talented people working with minimal budgets and the actors they can get locally. In those cases, the ideas will shine through and make a movie fun, for me at least. This had none of that, it was exploitation filmmaking without any redeeming features really. Unless you want to see a guy playing a mummy stick his face and nose into the camera to simulate mental contnrol before assaulting naked women. The ending is risible as well and the mythology is inconsistent - not just with Egyptian myth and history, that's common for mummy films but with itself. The movie presents certain reasons the mummy is doing what he's doing and then literally violates that explanation in the next scene. There was no interest in this film from the filmmakers beyond the explotational elements. Was a real drag.1 point

Potentially modals can provide one inspiration per proc and the powder burns proc on each target on the AoE! maybe, with AoE weapons, other modals can also give a lot of inspirations, bur imbued spells by themself doesnt really work well for Least Unstable Coil, it is really depending of AoE / multihit ranged weapons (even if only one target per bounce ill trigger the spell). nice find however!1 point

RDR2 also won.. Labor of Love.. which is especially funny since R* almost instantly abandoned the game. Barely cared about RDO as well, which is now pretty much unplayable.1 point

It depends on your party. If you have (or planing to have) party members who use a lot of summons (like a Beckoner with Ancient Brittle Bones, Troubadour with the phrase Many Lives Pass By or an Ancient with Sporelings for example) then going Single Class Paladin can be very potent. The reason is that the ability "Divine Retribution" will give +2 Zeal on a summon's death, too. The best case is a Troubadour with Many Lives Pass By, sung with Brisk Recitation. Those skeletons pop out every 3 secs and die as quickly (because weak as wet tissue paper) so you'll basically get +2 Zeal every 3 seconds if the fight is rough and the skeletons die quickly. So you can provide exortations and Lay on Hands and whatnot all the time. If that's not the case then Herald. It has great "self-contained" synergy and is both very tanky and very supportive - not only actively but also passively (with chants + zealous auras combined) and also has summons, which are a very powerful in general.1 point

Watched Love Actually. Whoever recommended me this pile of saccharine as "Witty British comedy" is up for some retribution. Maybe I'll recommend them Pet Sematary as feel good family movie.1 point

While waiting impatiently for Frieren to pick up again in 2024, I finished Heavenly Delusion. Very interesting show and the story took a turn from dark to pitch black. Waaay too complex to describe in a single post, so if you like bleak horror and doomed post apocalyptic societies where people experiment on people and have to survive by fighting off those failed experiments, children have children, betrayal, suffering, secluded societies, murder etc... I guess it's just something that appeals to Nordic people A very interesting story so far, but the jury is of course out because the season didn't end per se. If it has a great second season it may be one of my favourite stories so far, if it doesn't continue, it's a meh experience (because none of the story threads gets wrapped up at all) As for Frieren, I think I heard somewhere it will continue on 5th of January1 point

It should be noted that the Antikythera Mechanism is a real thing (although obviously it doesn't quite do what it does in the film) and dates back to at least 2000 years ago, and it's a pretty fascinating read. Technology and science could unfortunately take great leaps backwards in the ancient world thanks to how easily knowledge and skills could be lost. It's only this year they think they discovered the secret to the millennia-old Roman concrete, and I'm still waiting to see if they ever find one of those ancient Greek flamethrowers from antiquity.1 point

It's great that there are more episodes of Frieren. I heard good things about Solo Leveling, so I'll check it out on Saturday, but besides that I'm not sure there is anything good this season.
