So my Lich walked into assassins' guild of City of the Loading Screens on Greybor business. This time I decided to rough up that Yozz guy a little and so I did. Unfortunately, my repurposed thralls also walked into the guild ("secret location" my arse ) when combat started, one of them acid flask flinging alchemist, another ice storm-happy sorcerer...yeah, party's two meatbags didn't have much chance in friendly crossfire. Bone dudes and lady survived long enough to get "I yield!" conversation, but the game hanged here. Probably couldn't process infinity of spiders.3 points

I'm really torn between doing things how I normally do and being an utterly psychotic murderer. I snapped a totally helpless woman's neck for no reason and the rest of my party silently looked at me in horror with "what in the absolute hell is the matter with you...and are we also in danger?" expressions and it was kind of amazing, but like, it's really hard for me to stick with such egregiously insane choices.2 points

I finally ventured outside Early Access are, met one of the legacy characters. Nothing to blow my socks off. I feel like Larian is struggling to write compelling characters, who aren't over the top like Astarion. Karlach, who seems to be the only semi normal in the party, is also a total bore. It's probably due to characters being as deep as a puddle. They still didn't evolve beyond a one minute intro that game gives you during the character creation. So far, even Minsc in BG2 had more going for him than any of this lot (not in terms of content, but in terms of narrative potential). I have been cooling off on the game. In my time with early access I generally enjoyed opening=>grove=>goblin camp, and after that my attention have been waning. Same is happening in this playthrough - I hoped things will picks up once I reach act2 but it still hasn't happened yet. I think lack of narrative drive is to blame. I am pursuing the same objective for about 20h. Narratively, nothing of note has happened in quite a while. I was wondering if writing got better in BG3 or I got desensitized to it- I think a little bit of both. I was getting along with act1 just fine, but act2 really feels off to me so far - like as if Larian have done act1 for Early Access, and now they are just making stuff up as they go along. It feels like the game is not going anywhere - just another chunk of content to go through. I am running into more and more issues with reactivity. Mostly small stuff, but some really odd ones, considering I feel like I am good boy and following paths set out by devs. The most recent example, is Gale crit. NPCs (oh gosh, Gales story somehow became even more idiotic) whom we met on a road, and sent him out to camp to chat with him later. Instead of being there, he appeared a new after I woke up, and the encounter played out as if we never met before, covering the same lines as before. Just... very weird, as in the first conversation "go to the camp and we will chat there" is an option, that the game gives you. People harp on how much choice the game gives you - and I am just not feeling it. I can't recall when was the last choice I made - outside the big good/bad path. Sure, I get a choice to murder everyone I meet, but that's not a real choice, is it. I also don't like that the game lacks guts to restrict content. I already traded off "speaking with animals" from my PC. It's a worthless skill to own, considering how easily it is acquired from other sources. It' a real shame, speak with dead/animals etc. could provide nice spins to individual playthroughts, but the game is incapable of rewarding those choices - instead it's choose to make everything available to everyone, making everything feel rather bland.2 points

This is a compilation of all skill checks found in the game. How it works The number on the left is the skill required. After that, there are three lines. The line associated with the skill check will be the first or the second; the others are there to provide context. The flow of the conversation is always top to bottom. Sometimes there isn't a line because the check is at the beginning/end of an interaction or it's a ghost node that immediately sends you elsewhere. Because of how conversations can diverge and converge, sometimes there are several options. If the text is in red, it means this is what you will see if you fail the skill check. Have this much skill to avoid that result. Scripted interactions only. The wrong line of the three may be highlighted, but it generally holds. What is Party Assist? Essentially, the party member attempting to pass a skill check uses their full skill plus a portion of the rest of the party's skill. Read more here. Future work Update current data with alternate ways to pass the skill checks. Update current data with additional requirements - some checks are AND/OR constructs. Proofreading info A skill comparison can be <=, <, > or >=. Or =, but it's never used. It can also be negated, so not <= means >. This is a minor brain bomb to parse, so it's possible some stuff ended up wrong. There are also checks that are unreachable (no sequence of interactions will lead to them), but still get found by my parsing and end up in this thread. Some lines will also look strange or not really related to the skill due to the trigger/result problem I described in the first paragraph. I will not be fixing individual errors, but if a pattern emerges that speaks of a programming mistake, I will try to fix it and post the info again. It's half an hour two hours of work, so... I'll just make it clear here that both the data digging and the formatting are automated, so "minor adjustments" are not really a thing, just code fixes. It's very cumbersome to edit these posts - their size alone slows my computer down. Think then what happens when added info makes a post too large for the forum to accept it, and I have to redistribute everything. Thanks to @Kvellen and @Noqn for helping me make sense of the data!1 point

I'm also playing as a , I mean, Dark Urge. I'm curious and often do pick the psycho option then reload and pick the good guy option. All the rolls are getting annoying to the point where I feel like I'm just playing the dice. Meh, f5 and f8 to victory.1 point

Well then if your Dark Urge is the kind to regret, take comfort in the knowledge that could the squirrel talk to you, he'd bite you and then call you a bitch. It had the kicking coming tbh.1 point

We should rename this thread to "Random tech njuus" or something. Steve put out a piece on LMG's quality standards and business ethics: LMG's channels are the only ones I have blocked on YouTube. I didn't even block Sargon of Akkad or The Critical Drinker, which both are Grade A All-Around Idiots...1 point

I think BG3 is a fine game but the 5e ruleset leaves much to be desired. Other than picking subclass (and spells if applicable) or multiclass shenanigans, it feels like your character is on autopilot for the most part. Between an attribute increase and a feat the increase is going to win out 9/10 times. With reactions being done the way they are, I don't think we'll be likely to see a real time in a 5e or a PF2e game. Personally I haven't had too many issues with combat yet, hardest battles so far have been the party in the Dank Crypt (My guys were blocked in a room and pelted with ranged attacks) and the Harpies (who exploited the high ground and kept murdering a child).1 point

Playing There is No a Game. It's a rather interesting point and click, although some of the jokes hang around a bit too long, but creative at least. Some moon logic in play, at least to me, but perhaps I think within the box too much1 point

All, Party Assist These are typically challenges in scripted interactions that everyone has to pass, like climbing or sneaking. Athletics Stealth =============================================================== All, No Assist A few physical challenges that nobody gets to help anyone with! Athletics =============================================================== Current These skill checks are given to whichever character you use to interact with the object. The Alchemy checks involve two objects in the bowels in The Forgotten Sanctum. The 18 Sleight of Hand check can substitute one of the Alchemy checks. The 5 Sleight of Hand check happens on the Wahaki island, as an assassination attempt. Alchemy (Party Assist) Sleight of Hand (Party Assist) Sleight of Hand (No Party Assist)1 point

It is weird, and I get pretty uncomfortable at times. I can at least use the free camera tactical view in this game, unlike Dragon Age: Origins, and that is a big positive even if I still have problems with it. It was literally unusable in Dragon Age: Origins and I pretty much just let the AI play every battle for me because of how miserable I would get every time I would try to take control. I have not had any performance issues...but I already demonstrated that with my 10x speed Cheat Engine speedhack .gif, which is dependent on your CPU actually being able to process everything that quickly. I'm gonna blame it on Intel, because that just seems like the right and proper thing to do at this point, . Yeah, everyone being like "WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE IN A DAY OR TWO" and me being like "but I have to explore every last inch of this beach" is your classic player behavior vs. main story dissonance. I could come back later...but characters might have moved around by then, perhaps even resolved some things by themselves without my help, so I have to do it now. And you know, there's really no reason not to talk to animals and corpses with the appropriate spells while you're at it...1 point
-
Uh, right. So first impressions: Larian jus can't make exploration not feel weird for me. I have to zoom in all the way and invert the Q/E default camera controls to make it work... somehow. By pretending that I'm playing a third person game where walking forward is boud to the left mouse button. Sigh. The game, for no apparent reason, has severe spikes in CPU load. I suppose that is what was mentioned as poor performance in this thread. It only lasts a second or two, with the annoying effect of making my case and radiator fans spin at maximum for all but two seconds. That's pretty much all for now. Went Dark Urge, obviously - who wouldn't. But... it is good to see the tried and tue cRGP approach: we're on a really urgent main quest, but also spelunking through dungeons. Because why not. Not like you're literally being consumed from the inside at the start of the game, right?1 point

There's some kind of default "holding onto things" way they carry stuff it defaults to sometimes. My Bard sometimes swings her lute around by the neck of the thing. The 50 lockpick kits in my inventory also say they don't get spent.1 point

The companions’ reactions have normalized for some reason. Funny how Lae’zel and Shadowheart are suddenly approving everything I do. They were dangerously close to the red side of the bar. I did some tests and gathered some information on robbing: - The cat form can’t pickpocket. - If you are not in the npcs’ field of view, but close to them, they can hear you taking items from containers and will notice the robbery. I’ll have to test using the silence spell and see if it helps. - If you steal/pickpocket too much (sometimes as little as two times), people will notice and demand answers from a party member. For some reason, they always assumed Shadowheart was the culprit. - Taking items from a container caused the suspicion when an npc entered the room. They talked with a party member that was innocent and gave up after I passed a persuasion check. - When pickpocketing, the npc noticed after I took the second item, despite my success in both sleight of hand checks. They went to question Shadowheart and let her go after she claimed to be innocent (no dice roll required). But then they came to talk to my pc (ignoring the others, who were closer) and I had to choose between going to jail, bribing or attacking them. Bribing never worked for me. - Putting the pickpocketed goods in a container and moving away didn’t work. It’s an improvement on D:OS2, where this would be enough to avoid getting caught. But it could be that they found other items, that I took from the containers before, I’m not sure. So it doesn’t seem to be worth the trouble, except for specific or truly valuable items. - Not exactly about robbing, but thieves' tools are spent even if you succeed when lockpicking. - Apparently it’s a crime to steal from some of the dead bodies of the goblins who attacked the area. Go figure. Edit: there is also an option to return the stolen goods. I ddin't pick it so I don't know what happens later.1 point

What bothers me about BG and party based games is that I literally feel like I'm playing work! I'm a manager in charge of a department in a grocery store and I have 7 "party members" that I have to keep track of and make sure I don't p*ss them off to much or they'll "quit the party" and leave and each one has their own unique set of personalities and back stories and their own set of skills and some are higher level then others and I have to constantly keep track of their movements and actions and heal them if they get injured. I mean jeez I just want to shed all of that and be a lone wolf on my free time! Can anyone sympathize with me here? xD1 point

I'm glad Larian is continuing to at least play into my theory of the Baldur's Gate series essentially being an elaborate mind flayer alien invasion plot in the vein of the X-Files. It's the least they could do after making the game turn-based.1 point
