  3. The Van Buren Sisters In 1916, Augusta and Adeline Van Buren completed a 5,500 mile (8,851km) journey across the continental United States on separate motorcycles. They were also arrested multiple times for their villainous perfidy. They had to contend with appalling roads, sometimes mountainous terrain, some remarkably unseasonal bad weather, and plenty of other issues... but they completed the trip, making them the second and third women respectively to cross the continental United States on motorcycles. They were also the first women to reach 14,109-foot summit of Colorado's Pikes Peak by any motor vehicle. SO, WHY WERE THEY CONSTANTLY BEING ARRESTED? They were wearing trousers. I don't mean that they should have been riding around with no pants on, as such... because that would have been chilly, and nobody wants flying bugs up their bits... but that even as late as 1916 there were expected dress codes, and women could be arrested for wearing men's clothes. As the Van Buren sisters were wearing leather riding gear - including trousers and jackets - this was considered a ghastly breach of etiquette, not to mention the law, and couldn't be overlooked by... well, by the less-evolved members of society. Technically, they should have been crossing the continental United States wearing dresses or skirts, and (probably) riding side-saddle... and according to media of the day, they were "using the national preparedness issue as an excellent excuse to escape their roles as housewives." Ultimately the sister's petition to be allowed to be come dispatch riders was denied. They each had successful later lives, however. Augusta went on to become a pilot, and Adeline became a lawyer.

  4. Always been. My GPU doesn't fancy it much either, so much I have to cap FPS and avoid playing in hot weather. Launched it yesterday to see if patch rollback borked anything (it did, but reloading same save file helped for some reason) and if I want to proceed with my abandoned Aeon. Nah, not yet...but kinda want to make yet another Lich sorcerer. I read this is widespread disease in JRPGs. Me, I only played two of them, both had multiple incidents of this garbage and made me wish for a kill everyone playthrough. Speaking of Bioware, they had this "win the impossible battle" situation in Dragon Age: Origins. If you won, you got the impossible boss's Big F††ing Sword. If lost, you had to spring yourself from jail while your party of misfits tried to do the same from the other side of the door. Either result was rewarding in its own way and the whole scene was really good.

  6. Don't think so. He specifically mentioned China and price inflation (ta Malcador for saving me scrolling back an entire page) despite the context being the pearl clutching about how Africa would starve. I do seem to recall someone publicly saying they'd blocked that poster though... But yeah, if Europe* ate fewer burgers Africa wouldn't starve; that's simple energy maths. 90% of the energy in food is 'lost' feeding animals. Don't eat meat reared on corn and the like and you can feed 10x as many people, and for less money. Far easier to just blame Russia than do something that would actually solve the problem though; that's the problem with a lot of Euros really, no self control, can't stick to their stated commitments and always going for the zinger to make themselves feel good even when it's a load of bollocks. *everyone really, unless you're rearing animals on grass/ land that can't be used for cropping. But westerners do eat far more meat proportionately than, say, the Chinese.

  7. Agh, I meant to quote this post amd ended up reporting it. Sorry, my fingers are stupid when using my phone. Anyways, the story sounds like some sort of dystopian fiction that is banned in libraries that used to exist.

  13. Im about 80 hours into Gothic 2 and its been the fantastic PB experience I was expecting. Most PB games have the same excellent design which include no level scaling and you get killed easily if you try to face all enemies on lower levels no map hand holding, you need to actually explore to find quest objectives open world, you can go where you want and you can progress your character on multiple paths in different ways I am now level 25 Paladin and I have just started the dragon hunt, I havent faced any dragons yet but Im killing orcs and other monsters in the Valley of Mines and gaining XP. I like the Paladin magic and ease of use of runes I adopted a good strategy to kill certain monsters at lower levels which included the following tried and tested PB mechanics using spells, most scrolls only use 5 mana running away and using long distance attacks finding companions and letting them draw aggro and then I helped in combat. Im using Biff the dragon hunter at the moment for that but Im at the level and skill where I dont really need him as much But its a fantastic game, very entertaining

  14. Others disagree... https://www.statista.com/statistics/1333847/ukrainian-agricultural-exports-via-the-black-sea-by-country/ Not saying that they (China) get most of their grain from Ukraine, but it was one of the largest destinations for the grain that Ukraine exports/exported the last 12 months. Doesn't mean they are going to starve, but the reduced supply will affect the buying cost, probably snatching away supplies destined for third world countries by other grain suppliers (who can make more profit by selling to China). Most of Ukraine's grain were in the past sold to destinations like Spain and Taiwan, some middle eastern countries like Israel as well as Egypt (their only major African customer). But again, damaging the Ukrainian economy is not the only effect, it inflates the price for countries who can ill afford food in the first place, when first world countries buy them out of the market so to speak, as they can pay the higher prices.

  15. I don't want to spoil anything, but play nice with Che for now. It is worth it. I'm 50 hours in. I have real world stuff going on, so that's pretty amazing. It's simply the perfect sequel to JA2 and JA2 1.13. I'm super happy. I go to sleep thinking about missions and wake up ready to implement strategies. I'm close to the end now. Technically I really only have 2 areas I need to take to win the game, but I'm procrastinating so I can just explore the areas. I have 3 good squads rolling and they are all pretty unique.

  16. this is our problem. chicken fried steak is something we made a few times for family and friends, and most o' our acquaintances is midwesterners, californians or yankees o' some stripe. chicken fried steak is not something our friends and family is likely to have had more than once and chances are what they had weren't a particular good example o' the dish. our family experienced a pleasant kinda a shock when they realized how delicious were chicken fried steak, so now it is one o' the most common requests we get precise 'cause is not something they make for themselves or enjoy at a local restaurant. what family thought was chicken fried steak... wasn't. edit: most o' our family is not adventurous when it comes to menu selections. HA! Good Fun!
