  1. 1.0 and Steam release on February 28th. Played and highly enjoyed the demo*. Somewhat amusing to me that there's a segment of players who for whatever reason consider the WEGO as a personal insult and insist that it's not a "true" turn-based system. *Remember when those were a thing in PC gaming?

  2. we got a family member named amelia. obvious is shortened to amy, yes? no. meal. meal? explain to us how that sticks. not just meal for elementary school or summer camp, but meal for decades? not just childhood bullies but friends and relatives to this day call her meal and nobody acts as if such is weird. @Azdeus of course the crumbsnatchers pick up signals from adults. kids ain't born knowing the rules o' bigotry. is learned behaviour. the thing is, children is very observant and they see far more than we ordinary give 'em credit. also, most adult bigotry tends to be transmitted with whispers, sneers and anonymous internet posts 'cause is social unacceptable to overt bully others. kids don't restrain in the same way as does adults 'cause they don't understand what is social unacceptable w/o specific parental, teacher or legal consequences. kids, particular in groups, is vicious not 'cause they is broken or 'cause they were raised wrong but 'cause they is kids. w/o parental intervention, lord of the flies is not just metaphor. absent immediate parental monitoring, children are intimately aware o' the punishment being doled out by their peers, and is therefore perfect rational for them to be cruel to the weak and different. https://www.simplypsychology.org/kohlberg.html#:~:text=Kohlberg is not easy to think o' innocent kids as being vicious. particular for parents is gonna be a natural reluctance to see their children as capable o' monstrous (but normal) childhood behaviour. don't forget it is possible to be simultaneous innocent and cruel. HA! Good Fun! ps am recalling one kid we coached for football. he had asperger's and were social awkward to a comical degree. he also had a curious speech pattern. the kid were constant ridiculed and we were kinda shocked other coaches and teachers mostly ignored the way this kid were being treated by fellow students. am suspecting the educators also found the asperger's kid to be annoying but is only a guess. is not the parents o' the other kids who taught them 'bout asperger's 'cause is doubtful more than a couple parents had any inkling o' autism spectrums. the kids saw this dude were different and they punished him for his awkwardness. converse, for mock trial coaching am recalling one o' the worst bullies we ever encountered were a girl who identified as masculine; am having no idea what were her sexual preference as such never came up in conversation. the thing is, in the particular california neighborhood where we were invited to help with a mock trial team, the girl were not ostracized 'cause she dressed like one o' the guys and adopted stereotypical mannerisms. in fact she were popular and she were horrible unpleasant to a few o' those who were less popular, but only when she thought the teachers wouldn't notice. curious, we were able to put a stop to the asperger's bullying as were a football esprit de corps philosophy which the head coach subscribed. brotherhood o' the locker-room and all that. unfortunate there was little we could do 'bout the mean girl other than quit 'cause the a$$bag teacher who we were s'posed helping let us know the girl's classroom behaviour were not our business. am thinking we chose wrong by not quitting, but given time and availability concerns, the school were not gonna get another volunteer such as Gromnir if we abandoned the project. we would have been punishing all the other kids to make a point?

  3. Ding, dong! Malenia is dead! That took quite a few hours. In the end I needed some internet wisdom to help me out. First, once I got couple time to the 2nd phase I realised that dodging the Waterfawl dance by distance alone won't cut it, to her increased aggression in phase2. Getting a decent shield drop and farming necessary runes to upgrade fortunately didn't take long. The 2nd stumble was her clone attack I mentioned, for which I just couldn't figure out the dodge pattern. Even after watching couple helpful videos I still didn't manage to dodge it reliably. Fortunately, after stripping my character out of his armor to afford carrying shield, two katanas and still being able to quick roll, and about 3 hours of trying Malenia tasted her first defeat (in this universum, of course). I must say, I started to enjoy fighting her near the end - I suppose that's what they cann Stockholm syndrome. She really demands using whole kit to survive, which I suppose is good for a secret ultimate boss. What isn't good is that those two nasty insta-death attacks, I think are very difficult to figure out what will not result in ones death. I am really not surprised that people who played on launch and didn't have access to guides spent 20+ hours on her.

  4. More news about Vuhledar offensive. 130 Russian vehicles destroyed in one week. https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2023/02/13/7389085/ and the aftermath of the offensive in Russia. Prigozhin is going full auto on MoD, magnifying the infighting inbetween Russian factions.

  5. Hello! Chanter/Soulblade (the big red button) The chanter can summon multiple skeletons (first with Ancient Brittle Bones and later with Many Lives Pass By) The Soulblade gains +10 max focus and concentration from killing an enemy (or ally, doesn't matter) Usually Ciphers don't generate focus from hitting friedly characters Wahai Poraga acts like a "confused" AoE weapon If you accidentially hit your Skeletons with it s AoE you will generate focus (all Ciphers except Psion)! If you kill your Skeletons with its AoE you will gain +10 max focus and concentration (Soulblade passive)! Echoing Horrors will get triggered every time you kill a Skeleton ( Frighten a bystanding enemy on kill - it's a passive...) If you use Soul Annihilation with it it will apply the full raw damage to the initial target (and some more to the additional ones). So against tough singular foes that usually make generating focus difficult you can harvest focus and also max focus and concentration from your skeletons while hitting the enemy You can collect a huge amount of focus that way and then dump it all into one Soul Annihilation that destroys the tough enemy Skalds can get phrases from crits against skeletons - I used a Troubadour though (faster Many-Lives-skellies) Chanter/Priest (the undying) cast Triumph of the Crusaders use Ancient Brittle Bones and/or Many Lives Pass By attack with Wahai Poraga and gain lots of health every time a skeleton goes down combine with health-on-kill pets for additional healing Chanter/Barbarian (the obvious choice) no need to be a confused Berserker use skellies every AoE-hit of Wahai Poraga triggers Carnage (foe only) accidentially killed Skeletons trigger Bloodlust and Blood Thirst (hack away without much recovery) Blood Storm (additional Frenzy duration on kill) makes it easy to uphold Frenzy endlessly Barbaric Smash: AoE-kills when using Barbaric Smash will not refund the Rage cost. The initial target has to die (booh!) Chanter/Sister of the Reaping Moon (the well of wouds) killing a skeleton grants 3 wounds Chanter/Fighter (clever cleaver) killing a skeleton triggers Cleaving Stance (attacking the enemy again because Cleaving Stance chooses the next enemy as initial target, not a skeleton) What doesn't work: Paladin's Inspiring Triumph and Virtuous Triumph won't trigger (too bad). That's all I found out so far.

  9. Well, the vast majority of tanks now left in the RU army are T-72s, with a hefty number of T-64s as well, so Leopard 1 and Challenger 1 tanks will be more than a match for them.

  10. Old but not out... I remember these old Leopard 1 tanks (I used to live near the coast as a young man, where the army had the target practice and general training area for gunnery and the occasional large scale NATO maneuvers) https://mil.in.ua/en/news/denmark-will-hand-over-leopard-1-tanks-to-ukraine/ I thought Denmark had sold them as scrap. Turned out they were sold to a German company to be converted into some other kind of military vehicle. Now they (the Danish government) are buying them back, to be refurbished according to Ukrainian needs and then to be shipped off to the Ukrainian army instead. Old, but still with decent fire control equipment and a nice 105mm gun. I think they last saw active combat in Bosnia several decades ago by now...

  12. It seems that unlike other AoE weapons, the 3 potential hits of Wahai Poraga per swing count as seperate actions. This makes it possible for a Skald to gain more than 1 phrase per swing. With a weapon such as WotEP it doesn't work (Skald gets max 1 phrase from a swing even if it crits mutliple times) - but I'm pretty sure I saw more than that during my tests with Wahai Poraga + Skald. It's not that easy to determine because the Skald is also singing phrases which generate points in between. But I saw jumps from 1 to 4 in an instant often enough so I guess my assumption is correct. Maybe needs more testing to be 100% sure. This would also explain why Barbaric Smash doesn't refund if a secondary target dies and why Stunning Surge doesn't seem to refund if you crit secondary targets. Didn't try Gambit but I suspect it won't refund on secondary crits, too. Not motivated to test that though because Gambit can't be used with Chanter/Rogue in the first place - and I was looking for "self-contained" synergies. On the other hand: stuff like the stun of Stunning Surge does get applied to the secondary targets just fine. Maybe secondary attacks are not entirely separated actions after all...

  13. Yes, indeed. Unfortunately Wahai Poraga has low base dmg and the dmg bonuses of Chanter/Fighter aren't too high so it's not as devastating as it sounds. Also the description of Wahai Poraga is wrong: it doesn't hit "3 additonal" targets as advertised but only 2 (3 including the initial target). So the number of skeletons getting hit is only 2 at max. And because you seldomly one-shot even your whimpy Many-Lives skeletons with that low dmg per hit you won't see a lot of that. But nevertheless Cleaving Stance offers a lot of "free" additional attacks against the initial target - which suddenly makes the weapon very viable. Without such tricks its dmg output is just bad. But the enchantments are pretty good for a non-shield tank though - so using a fighter to build an "offensive tank" might be a nice idea. Add some cool Huana gear that goes into the same direction (Reckless Brigandine mostly, stacks with the mob stance effect) and you might get a cool Huana Warcaller. If Wahai Poraga did attack the number of targets it claims it does then this would be even more interesting for sure.

  14. True or not, I don't know as I'm no professional in such things, but read from multiple sources that true empathy in humans isn't really fully developed until past teenage years. Hence why kids can be cruel, vicious little bastards taking scissors to cats whiskers or fry ants under the sun with with a looking glass with glee... on a similar note, male juveniles have particularly slow developing brains when it comes to the part of the brain that is responsible for assessing self (own capability) and risk. Hence why they (young males) are the source of many groans and hand wringing at insurance companies (because they cause the most and the most serious car accidents) Edit: Iirc, that part of the male brain is seldom developed until after around 25 years

  15. Hey now, I put Field of Dreams in my "fave KC lead-role films" list a page or so back. ...occasionally I think about how most of my late-teens-20's faves are old enough now that some 20-somethings probably view them like I viewed 50's/60's movies growing up, if their parents didn't expose them to them. Supposed to be good/a "classic" but they haven't gotten around to it yet. Or have never heard of it at all. Time marches on.

  19. solo? what subclass? guessing ff? I've 35 resolve, dex 2 (dwarf), int 13, might 18, per 18, con whatever's left, ring of the solitary wanderer, ring of prosperity's fortune, strand of favor (doesn't extend already existing effects in bpm), rekvu's scorched cloak, rekvu's fractured casque, gauntlets of accuracy, no armor, unarmed two weapon fighting. Pets have tried eevie, grog, and ooblit. Think I like ooblit though that puts me at 34 resolve. Grog is nice because no disengagement attack. Eevie actually not that great in this encounter. script goes enlightened agony on not smart => lightning strikes on not quick => dichotomous soul every 25s => instruments of pain every 40s => forbidden fist if smart+quick Manually trigger resonant touch on 25 resonance (don't think i can script that). Does 22 damage per resonance, so 550 on a resonance trigger, about 70 per ff hit every 2s (when not casting something else). This is a really good build and I think would handle most encounters, possibly all of them, but I am still having trouble getting doru below 2.5 bars of health. Might be doing something wrong, I haven't played monks much or SC at all. One thing of note, BPM nerfs dichotomous soul to require 6 wounds but potions of enlightenment give 1 wound per 30 seconds so it is a very slight nerf compared to vanilla if using the potion. @Elric Galad I know BPM isn't centered around solo but I think SC ranger sucks in party too. In a party ranger is DPS ranged but give a bow to a devoted, a rogue, a cipher, a dozen MC chars and they'll out-DPS the ranger. The pet is the main difference of the ranger and it is kind of useless if you can't keep it alive, which SC can't and requires diverting resources from other characters to help the ranger keep his accuracy bonuses and level 9 intuitive buff. I think a lot of SC classes can solo the game if you cut out trials and skip certain megabosses. Barbarian, chanter, cipher, fighter, monk, paladin, rogue, wizard, can probably all do it or come close with at least one subclass. I haven't played druids or priests much but without woedica/eothas challenge I think would do okay. I mean yeah lay on hands sucks but paladin doesn't have to keep a pet alive in order to use its l9 abilities does it? And it has much more armor and defenses. And a really, really good L8 ability that lets you die and revive full health upwards of 3 times. Paladin also does very well in its party role of support, as most classes do very well in some party role. SC ranger is just bad, any role it can perform can be performed much better by another class IMO, but it could be made viable pretty easily by increasing duration of the heal on Hardy Companion (or change it to Robust Companion, or add a higher level tier to the same effect). The effects of the pet dying are too severe, you lose all the pet abilities (which mostly suck because the pet can't stay alive, but could otherwise be good), a number of ranger/pet abilities, and get some severe debuffs. Another way to make the SC ranger more viable would be to change the Bonded Fury ability to give some or all Tier 3 inspirations (particularly robust), the tier 2 inspirations aren't really enough to justify ever spending 3 bond on it. I do appreciate adding monastic unarmed to other classes, should help with abydon's challenge for some builds and just makes sense @dgray62Yeah I'm sure that's a good build with blade cascade, fact is a great many builds can solo if you proc blade cascade and can extend it in some manor (SOT, Wall of Draining, SOF). BPM nerfed the hell out of all that. SOT adds 50% to an effect and can't more than double it even if you keep casting it, and blade cascade only applies to the weapon. I'm stuck with recovery. Maybe wielding four generic legendary axes could work with barbarian / devoted or similar class, haven't tried it yet. Don't think I can slashing pen high enough (21!) so I guess the bleed effect must do good damage even with underpens? EDIT: I DID IT! Thanks Waski, SC FF monk did the trick but man what a grind. I checked before/after combat stats and I did over 62,000 damage, meaning he healed for like 54k. Yeesh. I've figured out the hardest part is getting Doru down to half health. Once bloodied he starts throwing in magnetic overdrive which is a waste of time if you're wearing upright captain's belt (or horns of the auroch or whatever), so it becomes slightly easier to outdamage his healing from that point on. At least half the fight was grinding him down from 2.5 bars to 2 bars. The resonant touches add just enough damage to change it from a neverending grind to actually beatable. FF monk / soul blade might also work vs Dorudugan doing similar strategy except triggering soul annihilation for burst damage, and that one could easily do HOW with disintegration, plus hammering thoughts gives +1 pen which is awesome, and gets a lot of accuracy buffs. My barb/devoted I think can probably defeat him also. Got to 2.5 bars pretty easily with fists, if I use axes with bleeding cuts to get him bloodied I think fists can finish him. Both builds are pretty much invulnerable but I suspect the SC monk may have more problems with Hauni O Whe than barb/devoted. Maybe SC monk can do it... can tank HOW form, then stack 25 resonances on each gigantic ooze, detonate when they start the merge, and pray can finish one of them. Barb/devoted can just use high hit to crit and interrupting blows. Don't think Belranga will be much of an issue, just kill enough spiders and she's easy. Auranic probably not too bad if I don't get turned into a pig. Other bosses IDK, but probably not tougher than HOW or Dorudugan. Got a few promising builds now, one of these will work.

  20. Yep, I tried out the ranger build, doesn't work at all. I misread the "hardy companion" description, thought the healing lasted the duration, if that were true you could keep up healing and use the boar as a tank, but the healing only lasts less than half, which with max INT is about 16 seconds, not nearly long enough for the potions of enlightenment to replenish. IDK why the duration is so short, savage defiance lasts like 60 seconds (granted costs 2 rage, but still lasts 2x longer per resource). I'd written a nice script to keep up shadowed hunters (the intuitive part) which you CAN keep up, and thought hardy companion healed for 39 seconds with max INT leaving a bit extra, hoping distraction training would replenish enough resources I could use an occasional hunter's fang (turns out melee only) or twinned shot, but...none of it works because you can't keep the pet alive. Shadowed Hunters it turns out doesn't even work when the pet is dead. You do gain perma-nimble and tenacious from vengeful grief which is okay but not worth the huge loss in accuracy and hit to crit on my hearth orlan (bonded grief, hearth orlan, distraction training, stalker's link) for a net -30 accuracy and -10 hit to crit (and -2 might -2 resolve). Nimble is unfortunately not good enough for running past dorudugan, he will brutal cleave you. Swift might work, for this part of the theory anyway. But there is no way in hell you can damage him fast enough, even if your bows didn't break, and I had to console in 4 legendary war bows to have a chance of them not breaking and having enough penetration (requires hot razor skewers overdraw and a dead pet to get 18 pen) You are indeed correct about the damage to health being unaffected by health-modifying stuff and as I suspected helfire iron is not even affected by dorudugan being weakened, he still heals 100% of his damage, making heart seeker a one-shot max health debuff for 4 bond (which *can* miss btw). I give this build an F for solo. Pretty funny how one little thing can make or break a build. If Hardy Companion had a longer duration on the healing I think this might actually have worked. You can't keep up hardy companion, the boar dies in tough encounters. He dies, your accuracy goes to **** and you get aggroed. And now you can't cast your nifty invisible / heal / intuitive ability shadowed hunters, so you die. Could revive him but that costs 2 bond, and you'll still run out of resources before you've even touched doru. To be fair it may not have worked anyway for this encounter because brutal cleave would eventually stack so high the boar could be one-shot in helfire barrages, but in general hardy companion is the lynchpin allowing the boar to tank while you DPS ranged. @Elric GaladBuff Heal Companion and Hardy Companion! 20 health per 3 seconds for 6 seconds is just pitiful. Needs to be at least 12 seconds to work with enlightenment potions at max INT. The pet buffs (resilient companion etc.) could also use a boost. Had most of them but he does 2 damage and gets crit every time with overpen. Just my 2 cents. This is the least effective solo build I've tried so far. Some MC ranger builds could have potential, like I've played seer before and it is pretty decent because Pain Block + Borrowed Instinct etc., the L8+ ranger abilities are just bad compared to the ability to get 7 levels of cipher goodies (or chanter, or whatever). For ranger builds to be viable the pet needs to tank, and it can't tank without help from other classes.

  21. Everspace 2 will move out of early access in April. Before that, on February 20th, the price will go up by 10$/€. If you're at all interested in the game, now is the time to buy at a discount. Gamepass subscribers need not bother buying as it will be available on Gamepass. In the interest of fairness and for everyone who has not played the first game and doesn't know, this is not a space simulation, it is an arcade shooter. It's not as hard as the first Everspace and no longer has the permadeath/rogue-lite mechanics but it doesn't pull any punches either. You can play the game with a joystick and in first person/c-o-c-kpit view, but you will be making things harder on yourself. KB + M in 3rd person is the way to go. Back when I played the alpha and parts of the early access the game wasn't as much fun as the first one, but I'm notoriously bad at dealing with a more open world approach. I see a reputation to grind, I do that, even if moving on in the story and to other systems generates quests that yield more reputation... *sigh* The developers said they expect players to spend around thirty hours playing the game. I'm already at thirty hours, and I'm not even out of the second system. Final release is going to have six, with more maybe added in an expansion. Optimization on the earlier builds was pretty bad, but apparently it's gotten to the point where it is playable at 1080p in medium settings with a GTX 970 level card. Way, way back I had to turn everything down to minimum to even get it to play semi-smoothly on a GTX 970.

  22. Just for anyone else experiencing this bug, I haven't seen anyone post any solutions but i managed to fix this. I too have an ultrawide monitor and my game was perma zoomed in fov after the javamatic cut scene. This makes me think its an ultra-wide only problem which i guess not many people run into and hence why its still in the game lol. The only way i was able to fix this was by restarting my PC and opening disc clean up from the search bar. From there i went through every drive and deleted every directX shader cache (I also cleaned up all the other files but i doubt that made any impact). When i next loaded the game my FOV was fixed. I hope this helps anyone else who runs into this issue as I have found 0 information online about it

  24. Decided to kill Now I need to figure out who is a good enough replacement for that party slot. Disregarding the damage/tankiness that character provided, the more important thing was the healing in combination with that. Well a good opportunity to try out the other companions.
