Started playing Subnautica. Really great game. Start was bit rough, got a suboptimal location for an absolute newbie (ironically, it's a pretty great location in general, and I relocated there on my 2nd go), but got a new location after I forgot to save before exiting the game. Yep, no autosaves on this one, not even when exiting to desktop... It ticks all the boxes: dumped in "bad situation", gotta figure out how to get out of "bad situation", gotta figure out the mystery of what even is "bad situation" and how you got into "bad situation" in the first place. To do that gotta survive "bad situation", and to survive "bad situation" gotta build stuff. Hearing some really mixed signs about the sequel, but thankfully I doubt I"m done with this one soon And well, "started" got quite a ways in already:2 points

Brits are (seen as) the worst. Predominantly due to the Thomas Cook groups that aren't just loud, but get so drunk and act in such ways, it is impossible not to judge them. It is so bad, they get that rep even in destinations where these groups never appear (for example Athens). On top of that they are the most likely to cause problems while they are sober: try to blackmail or con hotels or restaurants into giving them freebies. The UK is the only country where the government would send out email alerts to hotels in popular tourist destinations with warnings of what cons were popular the previous season. Chinese aren't liked mostly for the fact that on average nobody makes money of them; they usually have all travel planned out through whatever agency/site they use in China and don't stray into anything outside that package. They don't eat at local restaurants, they don't use taxis, having a Chinese private driver instead, they don't use random hotels. They even bring their own instant meals in their suitcases. Russians are still not used to traveling to the west freely, so can be awkward. They aren't sure if they should be entitled to something or not, so can come over as super-entitled and immediately re-adjust their attitude to super-apologetic. Unless of course they are filthy rich. But the filthy rich are a group that transcends nationality (see UAE below). UAE/Qatar etc are also two opposites packed into the same person. You'll only ever encounter really wealthy tourists, who are also well educated. Their vacation is also an escape from strict social norms, so they are happy to see you and be worldly. At the same time they grew up with servants on hand at any moment, so they are not used to not being waited on. For hotels that means the messiest rooms you'll ever step in. But often they are also to some extent aware that they do things "wrong" so try to make amends for that in being super-sweet and great tippers. I even had guests offer to tell a woman I was interested in how awesome I was and that they traveled all this way just to let her know she really should go out with me. US Americans are usually not as bad as people fear. I think they are well aware of the image of the entitled US American who in action movies walks up to the terrorist hostage taker and demands to be let go because they are American - and obviously end up the only dead hostage. Or the line "If it weren't for us you'd all be speaking German now," which can embarrassingly lead to the other person continuing the argument in German. On top of that, Europe, with the many countries so close to one another, seems to inspire a bit of awe in people from the huge countries, as it is far easier for people to have "abroad" experience. That said, US Americans are the second most likely group to try and con businesses out of money, including disputing credit card charges at hotels, and walking out of cafes and restaurants without paying. Still, in no way at a large scale as Brits. German men can be truly entitled. They are the same way at home as well, but abroad, especially in a poorer country, they can really let loose their entitlement. They also put a high emphasis on the educational aspect of a trip though, so instead of an entitled git you may encounter a walking encyclopedia or a sponge who will soak up every tale the locals tell them with genuine interest. Israelis depend on their age. Middle aged or older couples are great, as are families with adult children. Families with young children can be difficult, as the children seem to have a high risk of being spoiled, jumping up and down on furniture etc. Mind you, most parents seem to no longer feel compelled to be on the clock as parents during vacations. Teenagers and young adults can be hell, if they are male. Complete disregard for rules like "no smoking" etc, grinning at you while breaking them. They are the most likely to party like there was no tomorrow. I am still finding glitter all over the place two years later. If I had a choice, I'd probably work with Australian families exclusively, with Orthodox Jews over the weekends. The former are super friendly, while the later are so happy they find a property where the owner/staff understand their no-electricity on Shabbat requirements and are willing to work something out (I cover motion sensors with hats for example which is all that is necessary).1 point

It's not that they're universally bad, it's more that they just don't feel like they belong to the show in my head for some reason. It's probably a function of it being arguably the least important part of the show for me by and large...meanwhile, it's apparently the most to a number of other viewers. Maybe also because a lot of it feels pretty tonally disconnected from the otherwise pretty silly lives of the group... Oh, yeah, I guess you said that before I wrote it. Worst example I can think of that I've experienced is still My Hero Academia. Multiple pauses for pathetic minute-long monologues in the same fight that would otherwise be 20-30 seconds long. Man, screw that show. It's just 50 episodes of edgy, boring shonen trash - what's the problem? Yes, what a terribly interesting subject, especially in a series where the heroes are just arbitrarily given new power-ups whenever the writers decide that the old one wasn't quite powerful enough for whatever reason even though it makes no functional difference 99.9% of the time. Oh, so Nanoha was actually a JRPG.1 point

I can give you some unsolicited AZ recommendations. There are the normal things that get recommended like Grand Canyon and Sedona that are easy to recommend. Some other stuff I can easily recommend is the Painted Desert, Petrified Forest, Montezuma Castle, and Meteor Crater. Some less known places like Saguaro National Park, Sabino Canyon, and even Biosphere 2 if you want to do some BioDome LARPing. I think you like Westerns and I'm not sure if it's still open but Old Tucson is a place you might be interested in. You can also visit some old western towns and also Picacho Peak which is the spot of one of the westernmost Civil War "battles" and I think they do reenactments sometime in the spring. The last time I was in Europe I was repeatedly told that Americans weren't considered the worst tourists thanks to the French, Chinese, and Brits. People tended to think we were Canadian for some reason, I don think I said sorry and eh even once. Of course they could have just been blowing smoke or passing off their own personal biases as the general consensus.1 point

I'm almost certain that comment kind of applies in-universe to a degree to the better entries in the franchise. Outside of these movies and the ViVids that focused on magically enhanced martial arts nonsense, the combat in 魔法少女リリカルなのは (the kanji for magic is barely readable at this font size, huh?) is relatively slow paced and has some free-action talking moments. I can see people who really enjoyed these two fusterclucks saying that about the more JRPG-esque turn based feel of the earlier Nanoha combat. Of course there's every chance he means other shounen nonsense that uses internal monologue for filler, I hear DBZ did that to ridiculous degrees at times. I kind of expect that there's no way to actually watch all Sazae-san episodes, so that's a problem which doesn't arise in the first place. I've watched the new Doctor Who series (the one that began back in 2005) without feeling the need to go all the way back to the 60ies and watch everything - but mostly because there are episode that are just gone, and what's the point when you can't complete it anyway? Especially since old Doctor Who often has four to six episodes in a story arc and then there's the last episode missing? I'm not that insane. Funnily enough the talking about the Blood franchise a couple of pages back is currently the biggest issue, because I want to check out that first Blood film, but assuming I even like that a bit I'll end up watching Blood+, and I really don't want to. Now, if you'd somehow manage to trick me into watching a Pretty Cure episode and, heaven forbid, it's at least decent, now then I really would have a problem. I agree on the final parts of the R storyline (although bonus points for actually being able to make the death of Saphir something I felt bad about) and everything in SuperS, but the more serious Hotaru and Professor parts of Sailor Moon S weren't that bad, although... they were much better in my memories than they actually ended up being on the rewatch. Except maybe the episode where Hotaru just floats out of the frame and transforms into Mistress 9. Not sure if that was intentional camp or not, but that was just awesome. Nostalgia goggles kind of made Hotaru better as a character than she actually was. Funny how perspectives shift, the intense dislike for Chibi-Usa is gone while Hotaru no longer really worked as a woobie. Hmmm. Sailor Stars' ending is a mess. Unlike KP, I thought it was a good attempt. Pacing is all over the place, that was six episodes with the content for three at best. Instead of giving the Inner Senshi something to do, they're done away with excessively quickly, then we have a lot of meandering in between and the final episode could have used some more time to breathe. Yet I thought it was fine and I probably give it more credit than it deserves. The storyline of the first season is the most coherent and has a concise ending, but it's also the least interesting of them all. I think the biggest reason why they feel like they don't belong to the same anime isn't that they're not the most interesting or convincing or even decently written storylines, even though all of that is true to a degree, it's how disconnected they are from the "filler" episodes, might as well be watching a completely different anime in a different genre. That's something that was part of the franchise, but like Mike and Jay sometimes say when they're watching a film that is especially strange, it feels like these two Nanoha films were made by aliens that watched the first three seasons and recreated something similar but without the knowledge or appreciation of what made the series different. The result is two fast paced, action packed spectacle films with no narrative coherence. It's true that Nanoha befriended Fate and the Belkan Knights after having to deal with them for a season, but that's part of what the seasons were about. There was enough time, not just "blast character to acquire friendship" like the comments say. That's ridiculous. Imagine Usagi would blast the Spectre Sisters with MOON CRYSTAL POWER without any prior interactions and they'd get up and everyone would hug each other and say YAY WE'RE FRIENDS NOW, because that's essentially what's in those two films and the fans love it because that's soooooo "Nanoha" and what? That franchise has a fandumb that rivals that of NGE, although that's not very surprising, I guess. Also, hilarious comments everywhere: Hey, wanna talk about who would be stronger? Sailor Moon and Sailor Saturn vs. Blue, Pink, Yellow and White? Saturn would just cast DEATH REBORN REVOLUTION and it's over, right? RIGHT? *blink* This one got it almost right: Yeah, that's a no on both accounts, Dave. And finally... So... there's this Madoka mobile phone game called Magia Record and there's a rare Nanoha character in it and suddenly it all makes sense. This is all Kyubey's fault. All of it.1 point

You didn't actually answer my question. Why would NATO agree to essentially a permanent Russian veto of future members? There's no reason to do so, unless Russia agrees to something substantial in return. Using that as a pretext for an invasion is a false flag. Under this purported agreement, Russia can continue to threaten and coerce the Ukraine. They've always demonstrated a willingness to violate agreements. The NATO charter covers, "on the territory of any of the Parties in Europe or North America, on the Algerian Departments of France, on the territory of or on the Islands under the jurisdiction of any of the Parties in the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer". Europe extends to the Urals, effectively including the Ukraine.1 point

So, here are a few other changes I'm working on currently : Shifter Healing Adjustment : Due to 60s Shifting Cooldown Shifter just received, I though the amount of health they get after a shift was a tad to high. So I nerfed it from 15 + 5/PL -> 15 + 3/PL. Fighter Recovery : In a previous version, I tweaked it to Infinite duration, but halved regen to compensate. Now I'm realizing that it makes Fighters about on par with what a Pal or Chanter (not to mention Herald) do to a whole party. Early on, it's fine, but I decide to add a bit of scaling, in a similar fashion as Bloodmage (who starts below) : Constant Recovery : 5 health per 6s, +1 per 5 char level Rapid Recovery : 7 health per 6s, +1.5 per 5 char level Constant Recovery (Black Jacket) : 2 health per 6s, +0.5 per 5 char level Rapid Recovery (Black Jacket) : 3 health per 6s, +0.75 per 5 char level Monk Wound Cost nerf : I've come to the conclusion that 3 Wounds ~ 1 Martial ressource and decided to rebalance a couple of monk abilities that were really too cheap. Dichotomous Sould : 4 Wounds -> 6 Wounds Resonant Touch : 3 Wounds -> 6 Wounds Whispers of the Wind : 5 Wounds -> 9 Wounds (Note that Shattered Pillars max wound is set to 10 by both CP and BPM) This ends up making a lot of sense as all other Monk abilities seems to have reasonable cost. Why would you even use a Skyward Kick for 3 Wounds when WotW costs only 5 ?? This is not only a monk nerf, it also a way to encourage the use of more diverse abilities. This is the only WotW nerf I plan. The ability should remain porwerful, fun to use and a selling point of SC monk, but making it much less spammable is a way to tune down its brokenness. The other 2 nerfed abilities are meant to be used only periodically anyway. Shattered Pillar buff : My analysis is that 3 Wounds ~ 1 Martial ressource ~ 30 focus. So it makes sense that Shattered Pillar get the same base damages to ressource conversion as Cipher (Cipher gets Draining Whip, but SP get Lesser Wound and Mortifications) : Shattered Pillar : 1 Wound every 20 damages Shattered Pillar with Lesser Wound : 1 Wound every 16 damages This is more than enough to Skyward Kick/Torment Reach every couple of attacks, which is the way Shattered Pillar shall be Played. Those abilities that take foe level into account : Threatening Presence, Abjuration and Dismissal compare your level with foe's. Which isn't something I like to much, but is especially absurd with upscaling. That's why I plan to Adjust these abilities so they keep an effect vs foes of greater or equal level. Dismissal : Add an effect that Destroy Summon without checking level. Basically a dismissal. Abjuration : Also remove the level checking vs Summons. Rise damages (to 65-90, same as Killing bolt) vs higher level spirits so it works reasonably well vs them anyway. Add "Veil-Piercing" KW.(BPM previously set Abjuration to 3 Zeals). Threatening Presence : Change design completely. The idea is to make Barbarian Immune to Engagement when above 75% health. This is strong but it's not like Barbarian had tons of tools to avoid engagement anyway (Staggering, Dazing, Wild Sprint, Leap, etc...) I think this is fitting and is also intended as an indirect buff to Corpse Eater since it reduces reliance on rage. A bit more Barbarian Buff : Barbarian might be the only class that was better designed in PoE1 than in PoE2. Carnage used to be so great ! I totally get why they needed to tweak it, but now Carnage feels much less class defining, and Barbarian basically losts his original soul and often struggle to be defined otherwise than "just another martial class". Adding Crit to Carnage so it can benefit from Blood Frenzy was a first step to make Carnage matters more. Blood Storm is a meh upgrade though. Spending a Tier 7 ability point just to get situationaly more duration on 1 Rage self buff is bad. So I will change it to On Crit instead of On Kills. Carnage Crits matter too. This is also a Buff to Corpse Eater who will have a way to maintain Frenzy without having to use too much Rage. But my key idea was to Buff Interrupting Blows. The idea is to have Interrupting Blows also causes 50% chance of Interrupt on Carnage Crits. This is quite strong because with the right positionning, Barb will very often interrupt some target, performing the Crowd Control role it is supposed to have. Not that Interrupting BLows really need a buff on its own, but I see this as an opportunity to make Carnage and positioning with your Barbarian about as relevant as in PoE1 (esp. with builds such as Tall Grass ones). With this version of Interrupting Blows plus either Spirit or Blood Frenzy lines, Carnage will be relevant enough, while still "capping" the effect that it can have in best conditions (PoE1 Carnage + PoE2 equipment or Multiclasses would have been arguably broken...)1 point

In my first playthrough, I remember that I put a couple of hours in before restarting for whatever reason, and I was super confused upon my restart because I couldn't figure out where anything I recognized was. Took me a bit to realize that the starting position, although it stays in that safe shallows area, can move around a bit - I am not a smart man. Yeah, it's a good game. I put a few hours into the second game before I died and realized I must've accidentally chosen hardcore instead of normal, because it erased my save game...but before that, it seemed fine - sequels to games that had mystery/surprise elements rarely have the same mystique as the originals, though.1 point

Nobody has suggested that Russia could not move their troops around their own country. Where do you get that idea? If Putin had never made a land grab of the Crimea, then they may have had more of a case with the West. As it is, agreeing to Putin's terms at this point amounts to appeasement, and we all know how well that works with autocrats. If Putin wants to make a deal to keep the Ukraine out of NATO, what does NATO get in return? It's Putin that is holding Ukraine hostage, not the other way around.1 point

"How do you kill that?" "Dynamite and chickens." "... Chickens?" “They’re bait. You kill the chicken, tie on a stick of dynamite, light it up, and throw it into the path of the black willow.” “I suppose that’s humane, since you kill the chicken first.” “You don’t want a frightened chicken with a lit stick of dynamite tied to it running around.”1 point

Hi folks, Nothing radically new here but a fun combo I've overlooked for a long time even if I've played a ton of Assassin/Wizards. I've been toying with an Assassin/Bloodmage while playing solo with BPM because this multiclass actually benefits a great deal from BPM's Smoke Veil costing only 1 Guile - even if Blood Mage gets a big nerf on its signature cheese abilities. From there, I wanted to maximize the lash from Deltro's Helm by hitting myself with Shock spells, so I tried to pack as much damage done/taken increase % I could muster: Maximize Spell Damage output: High Harbinger Robe Accelerated Decay, Kuaru's Prize Sonorous, Sash of Judgment Balance in all things, Griffin Blade Hound Courage (I switch to Blightheart for combat), Crusted Swordfish Food, Harley pet, max MIG/PER etc. Maximize Damage taken: High Harbinger Robe Accelerated Decay, Sash of Judgment Balance in all things, I also got the full Red Hand Guilty Conscience curse as well as the full Shards of Woedica curse from Shattered Vengeance (I had a hireling hit me) which, on top of the Assassin passive, net out +100% Damage taken. I also wear Sandals of the Water Lily to lower defenses... pure glass cannon. There are other ways to increase damage taken, but with my health pool (274) it put me in the sweet spot of reliably triggering a high Lash and Fighting Spirit as Human with Chain Lightning or even Jolting Touch... while not committing suicide on the spot . From there I tried to find the best way to maximize alpha-strikes and I went for max Arcana and Tornado scrolls. And the results got really fun as you can check in the video below. Tornado scrolls are cheap and easy to manufacture, I get a range of 24 (!) with Farcasting, a radius of 11 (!) while getting a ton of damage (on top of Arcana, all the generic damage % increase buffs apply) and very nice PEN (16+) and ACC (140+) thanks notable to Assassinate. But the true cherry on the cake is the Knock Up effect: a high-DEX Assassin can chain cast Tornados covering the entire battlefield and activate Smoke Veil in between casts as fast as the enemy can get back on their feet... so they can't do anything and, provided you can land your spells, you can brute-force a vast amount of serious fights even on Upscaled PotD. An Assassin also has access to Deep Pockets so you could potentially pack 20 Tornado scrolls, 10 Invisibility potions and cast Tornado > Invisibility 20 times in a single encounter . Just for illustrative purpose, here is the the Pickled Eel fight with enemies taking up to 1100+ damage per cast and very routinely getting in the 600-800 damage range1 point

It may be different now, but last time I was there, it was the English “packaged tour” tourists you had to kick your way through. Easily recognisable too. The day they arrive, they’ll be pasty white. The first night, they’ll drink themselves senseless and the second day they’ll sleep it off on the beach. Usually turning red and outright blackish purple in the sun because of their firm belief, that a sufficiently high alcohol content in their blood makes them immune to UV rays. At least they acted that way. You didn’t really see them again until they catch the bus back to the airport, then all wrapped up in alufoil like bandages and boxes of painkillers in their hands…1 point

I didn't watch much of last week's games after that Packers debacle, but holy crap Batman, the Bengals are going to the Super Bowl - words I didn't think I'd ever say in my lifetime.0 points

Yeah, the real discussion is on who has the most style. Anyways Aggretsuko s3 ep1. There is now a unicorn. Instead of chasing underage girls, he promotes microtransactions in a dating videogame.0 points

No, no problem with my droid. I mean, with Blood+. Oh come on, what about when Mamoru and Usagi make their love rod? *scnr* Yeah, these my dad can beat up your dad discussions are pretty pointless, and they're not getting any more interesting when comparing magical girls, or starships, or... speaking of starships, there are videos on YouTube where people calculate the potential power output of Star Wars starships and compare them to Federation ones in order to find out if the Enterprise would win against the Executor in a fight. Why are we trying to contain climate change again? I, of course, immediately set out to find out what is what. I already knew that Nanoha was a side character in an H-game, but there are also two fighting games based on the series and a card game for mobile phones. That's the good news. The bad news is that there are a whole lot of what once were Flash games and now is something else, almost all in Japanese, with Nanoha content so terrible it singed my eyes and broke my brain. Do not google Nanoha games. Like, ever. Also, please, like NEVER EVER look at Nanoha merchandise. Why did I do that? What is WRONG WITH ME? Yes, that's a Nanoha sheet, and it's... uhm, listed as for girls, at least on the German Amazon page. Yeah, I'm sure that's... accurate. Oh so accurate.0 points

Have you listened to/ read any of the rhetoric that has been spouted recently? What exactly do you think telling Russia to withdraw their troops is, apart from telling them where they can deploy on their own soil? It's most definitely seen that way by NATO when the situation is reversed, and NATO gets decidedly pissy when Russia tells them not to deploy close to her borders. Of course, those are purely defensive deployments due to Russian aggression, anything the Russians do in response to NATO actions is just more aggression... And if NATO had never invaded Serbia... Kosovo predates Crimea, and unlike Crimea had zero legality per international law. That was a conflict in which British troops were- literally literally- ordered to attack Russian ones by NATO Command, specifically by General Wesley Clark. Fortunately that beautiful fellow James Blunt ignored the order as being what it was- completely insane- and got backed up Sir Mike "I'm not going to start World War 3 for you" Jackson. But still, these are the sort of things Russia remembers; its allies are fine to partition- completely outside of international law too, the only argument was 'special case' not that it was actually legal- and its troops fine to attack. That will always be the case, whatever Russia's leadership. That was the case when the decidedly west friendly Yeltsin was in power too- that Pristina incident was while Yeltsin was President. And the Open Door policy that NATO holds so very dear never applied to Russia even when Yeltsin applied. Truth of the matter is, when Russia has weak leaders like Yeltsin NATO ignores her. When she has a strong leader like Putin they at least pay attention. Lesson learned. And in either case NATO has been persistently aggressive in both tone and conduct, more so than Russia by any objective measure. NATO is a military alliance, that's its entire raison d'être, and is localised to the North Atlantic. It gets nothing, indeed a proper détente with Russia literally makes it irrelevant. That doesn't matter at all though, unless the existence and necessity of NATO is itself an intrinsic justification, which it isn't. The countries that make up NATO get a decent amount though. Less military spending. Better leverage on China. A Russia less likely to stir trouble on the principle of the matter and a decent bit more.0 points
