Lorfean Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 (edited) The official Baldur's Gate site has been updated, and there are some cryptic messages in the page source: <!-- Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine --> <!-- oh dear it's coming soon --> Edited February 17, 2012 by Lorfean Shadow Thief of the Obsidian Order My Backloggery
Gorth Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Coincidence? apparently the Infinity Engine just went open-source? http://www.gemrb.org...ku.php?id=start whoah... this is real? toooooo bad i don't know squat about making video games! cause i'd totally want to make an infinity engine game! Pick up some documentation try and start! The sky is the limit! (Though I've heard that GemRB may not be in the best shape yet.) “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice.” - Albert Einstein
C2B Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 (edited) This has been happening since a few weeks ago http://www.giantbomb...gatecom/532919/$ Who owns that site at the moment anyway? Edited February 17, 2012 by C2B
Lorfean Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 No idea who owns the site... or who owns the game's art, music, character names, etc. The new logo looks pretty spiffy though. HD remake? Shadow Thief of the Obsidian Order My Backloggery
mkreku Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I suck at internet stalking, but.. http://w3spy.org/site/baldursgate.com which leads to http://who.godaddy.com/whois.aspx?domain=baldursgate.com&prog_id=GoDaddy which gives us.. nothing. Told you I suck at this Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Janmanden Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I don't know the site or I forgot about it. It's just a front?! Erm, Is it supposed to be usefull in any way? (Signatures: disabled)
Tale Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Baldur's Gate 2 is showing up on Steam's registry. It's been there for a month, so don't get too excited thinking it'll be available today. But something's up in general. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Gorgon Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I know, we will get two handed axe animations after all this time. 2 Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.
Lorfean Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 (edited) The page got a small cosmetic update in the form of an Aloundo quote and the text in the page source was updated, too: <!-- February 28, 2012 --> <!-- Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine --> <!-- For years, I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory. --> <!-- And then... it returned. Better than it was before. --> GameBanshee reports that Trent Oster/Beamdog are behind it. entrerix Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 i'm hoping it's either a spiffed up re-release with new UI and animations and graphics etc or better a new infinity engine game made with love and care by someone who "gets it" 1 Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.
HoonDing Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Or maybe the Imoen romance mod is finally complete. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Orogun01 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 And so it has been foretold that BG will get the DA2 treatment and be remade. I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"* *If you can't tell, it's you.
Morgoth Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 iOS remake. No thanks. Rain makes everything better.
Nepenthe Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Considering that an ios remake represents probably the only possible way for the genre to make a return, it would be wonderful news. You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that? Reapercussions
entrerix Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 playing this on a touchscreen would be torturous... pass Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. Gfted1 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 playing this on a touchscreen would be torturous... pass How so? A turn based game that uses mouse control would seem to me the same as a turn based game that uses touch control. "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"
entrerix Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 i have an iphone and it's annoying enough to use the touchscreen for something as simple as angry birds. i can't imagine managing party formations and dealing with inventory. maybe it would be better on an ipad? Spider Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Yeah, iPhone would be a nightmare, but iPad could be fine. Battleheart is a good example of that.

I've been known to be wrong, though. - When he is best, he is a little worse than a man, and when he is worst, he is little better than a beast.
Pop Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 a fan-made port doesn't really preclude the production of a commercial version of the same. I doubt GemRB would really cut into their margins, especially if they included "new and updated content" (including but not limited to an HD makeover) Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality!
Pop Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 There's a "teaser video" out but it's a fake made by someone masquerading as Beamdogger, btw Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality!
Humanoid Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 iOS port would make more sense for Dragon Age 2. DA2 is built around the one Awesome button and how many buttons does the Iphone face have? Sorry, couldn't resist L I E S T R O N GL I V E W R O N G
Morgoth Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 iOS port would make more sense for Dragon Age 2. DA2 is built around the one Awesome button and how many buttons does the Iphone face have? DA2 actually requires more buttons and controls than all Infinity Engine games combined. Sorry, couldn't resist. Rain makes everything better.
Humanoid Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Like Orson Welles' famous monologue about the Swiss, mustn't let pesky detail in the way of a cheap shot. L I E S T R O N GL I V E W R O N G
