Well how much will it hurt, if you gave an option to someone, who does not understand this kerfuffle, to completely turn it off?

First the people have been offended by other people asking for gay romances in games, now are people offended by other people asking for straight romances? Where is the sense in this? The more options you allow in your art, the more people will feel included in it 🤷‍♂️ Or you can call all these people bigots and are wondering, why your sales plumetted, or why Trump defeated Harris 🤷‍♂️

Pretty sure Trump won because of the economy and because the people that voted for Biden didn't turn out for Harris. I doubt the election was swung by pronoun sliders.

We've also talked about the game sales argument before, and there just isn't good evidence that going woke means going broke. Mediocre games do badly regardless of politics.

Dragon Age is probably woke and I'm pretty sure it's selling well. I mean, I didn't buy it because it looks boring, but it had nothing to do with the politics. :p

Well, some of the guy tweets/blues were not most diplomatic, and I can understand, why it might not only the "hardcore anti-woke", but also the Average Joe, who is a little bit conservative, but some of the games, which he enjoys does not give him an option to pick choices, which would represent a little bit more of his worlds view. Such Average Joe is then very easily convinced, that these "anti-woke activists" can have a point. Which is bull****... But when you are advertising your game as inclusive for all audiences, but in the end you do not offer few simple choices for a significant portion of demographic, and then you point using derogatory terms at everyone, who even in good faith might be asking why is that the case. Well such a game is then everything, but inclusive... This is not black and white issue, some shades of grey might expand your audience and in the end show a middle finger to the "hardcore anti-woke" crowd... 🤷‍♂️ In this case, the easiest solution would be to offer a toggle near the pronoun field. Liberal people wouebe able to choose, whatever would suit their playstyle, the conservative people would be able to turn this feature off. But unfortunately, we live in the world, where everything has to be turned into hyperbole, and then calling the people with different world view either bigots or groomers, with no chance at all to find at least a little bit sane middleground

I hear you but its not a big deal to spend 5 seconds confirming your pronouns

I have been updating my CV and job interests  and I noticed all the applications had pronoun options around my personal title. It was first to me because 4 years ago I dont remember having these choices

But its literally a 5 second change and it exists outside of gaming

I do agree its not helpful to call people bigots or groomers who object to this because this is about a broader debate  which has legitimate concerns especially around sport

Its nots a big deal to me in gaming but it has other resonance that does matter

I'm fairly sure a game like GW2 does well, despite featuring not just same sex marriages, but some of the best inter-species erotica literature (no kidding) I've read... one of the NPC's (Snargle Goldclaw) in the game is an author that writes literal soft porn novels featuring the "interactions" between the different species (and mixing the genders too for good measure) in Tyria (the GW2 world).

The pitchfork mob seems to focus on one game at a time. Can't risk running out of views on Youtube

I will not touch the "pronoune" conversation, but the backlash between the word "art" and call to appease as many demographics as possible is too much for me to ignore. The word you are looking for is "product".

I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Just skipping past the part of character creation that lets you change your pronouns or going into your game settings to disable the game from letting you change them is effectively the exact same thing (and I would find any suggestion of the contrary to be quite hilarious: I'd genuinely love to see someone explain how the game asking you about it on one page is to-o-otally different from being asked about it on another page), but if it makes the mouth-foaming troglodytes mad that they can't do the latter, I'm against including it as an option.

How naughty

But I think all of this just shows how the trogs get big mad over nothing at all. It does not appear that the game is preventing you from playing as a fella or a lady, yet in the deranged minds of outrage addicted terminally online reprobates you'd think Avowed would be pumping your avatar with fantasy HRT before forcing you to use neopronouns. Truly an alternative reality, they should make their own games if they want a safe space.

I am not transgender, and I don't personally know well anyone who is (or if I do, they have not informed me). My interactions with people who have made it immediately known that they are transgender have been consistently unpleasant and unwelcome, but it's not exclusive to them, that's always the case with those who immediately make whatever their identity is known to everyone and anyone right off the bat, no matter what it may be: an identity is never adequate substitute for personality. I don't really even believe in assigning meaning to "he", "she", or "they" beyond it being a useful tool of language to make clear as to whom is being referred to in conversation, and I have said as much to others in real life conversation, to people both ardently pro-transgenderism and vehemently against it, where a not untypical retort from the latter group is to mockingly refer to me as she/her, but again, as I really don't care, it's always quickly dropped because of how little it actually impacts reality in any meaningful way beyond confusing others when someone uses the wrong ones. The former group will usually just be happy if you're willing to try to use the right ones, which I do, because again, it really doesn't matter to me, it's just arbitrary connotations of language, which itself is made-up, so why not try to respect others if you can, especially when it seems to matter a great deal to them even if it doesn't to you? But the option in these games to switch from one to the other is always the absolute barest lip service, with zero content or mechanics designed behind it, it's just a simple flag that is checked to say "the player picked a male/female character, swap any said pronouns to the opposite option that we've already designed to account for (or a neutral/third option that they've defined)". That's it, it probably took all of half an hour to an hour for one person to implement, maybe a little more to integrate it into the character creation UI. Wow, so woke...get a grip.

Neither of those sources are exactly official. They are just making guesses about expectations, which will be internally monitored at EA. Considering it is available on services like Games for Windows and Origin, it is going to be hard to really track performance. Good but not great is hardly a flop. It's no BG3, obviously.

Yeah, I saw that article too. But to note, in the first article they are citing a source within EA who leaked that info, and several other articles at that time claimed EA was actively hunting down that leaker as they were super angry that that info had got out. :shrugz:

Trying to catch a few previews and news of dat new Indy game, and thinking: You know, it's fine that apparently we get a WOKE GAME warning now on every single game years before release. (I fully expect Kingdom Come II to get flagged by at least some attention seeker and clickbaiter at some point as well).

However, I'd rather be warned about DORK GAME.

God Of War has puzzles your pet hamster won't get stuck on. The Witcher witcher senses itself and never leaves its tutorial. Generally, Nintendo asks more of its audience than M-rated Western blockbusters these days. The jury's still out on Indy, and Indy has always been brawns AND brains. But srsly, where's the warists when you actually need them? Maybe they're fine with themselves and their kids being conditioned to not THINK for a second before falling for all the ragebait on the internet, who knows.

To end on something positive, I found something new about Kindcom Come II. And it's glorious. 😍

Everyone was so hyped. "Bloodborne remaster!!" until they realized that Sony just reused the old release trailer footage from back in the days. 😄

Anyways, I don't bother anymore. Bloodborne runs very good on PC now. I'm happy.

KC:D  2 is a " day 1 purchase " without any doubt

I cant wait, the first one was excellent. I loved the combat and then the mechanics of activities  like alchemy, reading and lockpicking

And the Romance was cute 🥂

I can't decide if I'm interested in that Indy game or not. Not even about possibly "quality", simply do I want/care about a game based on a film character. I'd likely be more interested in an all animated Indy movie or series re: continued Indy stories (please no more live-action ones).

At least Troy Baker seems to have done an all right job with the voice, although he sometimes drifts off a bit/not perfect (not that I expect it to be, that would be impossible).

Indy's face animation gives me super uncanny valley in this game tho.

^ Looks like that Indy game is going to require a GPU that is RT capable. They are listing 2060Super and Ryzen 5 3600 (for 1080) and specifically mention "gpu hardware ray tracing required."

To be clear, that does not equal "needing" full blown fancy bling ray tracing being "on", but that they are using RT tech for their basic lighting/illumination or something like that, with no other lighting tech method offered, thus gpu has to support that tech.

Wouldn't surprise me if AAA games all start going that way before too long. edit: I guess dev's may also like the RT lighting tech vs. older methods (I hear it's easier/simpler for them or some such? don't quote me, could be wrong)

Hmmm,  I am not happy that my RIG is doesn't even hit recommended without full raytracing. Though if they use raytracing by default it would make sense - and be greatly unwelcome to me, as from consumer perspective I feel Raytracing adds little to the experience. I am also a bit worried as it seems like devs use Frame Generation as a target setting. From what I understand it doesn't quite get rid of feeling of playing at 30FPS due to lack of responsiveness. This and Monster Hunter Wilds doesn't full me with confidence.

Posted (edited)

It wouldn't surprise me if I could still get it to run non-native "4k" at 45-50fps with dlss quality/mix of basic/no bling settings etc, and it's not a mega speed action game- but yeah...PC requirements/what some devs keep trying to push have me thinking "that looks like a great game to play in 7 years when the 70xx or 80xx period arrives!" Like they're all trying to make their games the new "can it run Crysis". Haha.

I have no idea about frame generation, don't have a gpu that can use it. But it hasn't sounded like a great thing to me, at least at its current state. Or at least, it would do nothing for me.
