  1. I actually feel really bad mostly about Kana. I did his quest, but because I gave kind of ambivalent or critical responses regarding my opinion of the Engwithans he would up returning all morose, almost depressed. I didn't want to break his spirit and now his sister might be mad at me . I thought about redoing it but: 1: It was way... WAY back. 2: It's just what happened. Sometimes bad things happen even when you don't intend them. Llengrath seems to have her/their **** together more than most.
  2. I mean, fair enough, but every game has elements that people like and they don't and you can't always pick and choose what you do. It seems like it's fairly easy to minimize the use of the naval stuff while it'll take some effort to avoid it entirely.
  3. I would call Magran's scheme only secondary in evilness to Woedica. Both Hylea's and Berath's solutions are essentially the same with the question being if the few newborn and neonates that might recover would be worth the impaired older children and grief over having killed hollowborn compared to a hard reset. Wael is a bit neutral, but frankly so is Rymrgand in that these souls may be damaged and the entropy of souls is apparantly a neutral phenomenon anyway. However, Woedica sought to use the souls toward her own end, empowering herself by stealing them away from children. Magran is essentially doing the same thing, just giving it to a population that is now unevenly worshipping her due to the Saint's War. It's *still* equivalent to using the souls to empower yourself on the tower. Not as much 'noble order' as a more or less functional city guard instead of an angry mob or a mob family. I killed the master first time, but... The second time I couldn't make myself do it again. It felt like this creature should have a chance to experience the world which it had observed for so long, for better or worse. It was one of the deeply morally questionable things I did during the runs, the other was abducting Vela... I wasn't noble - she was. In the end I left the decision to her and her decision was to not broker the deal she was supposed to. Paladin orders are all about dedication to a cause, and clearly she's more concerned with the overall common good than the orders issued by her superiors - perhaps then she wasn't well suited for a nationalist order. I suspect a lot of those not solving it were playing early on. If you don't have the high stats or piss off Deviance Bay or were unwilling to commit outright murder you *couldn't* solve the damn quest. I managed it, but could see how someone might not be able to get the needed reputation. The Eyeless: **** tempering him. It's as bad as what Ondra did and what Ondra did was a terrible crime to me and my excessively intelligent wizard watcher explained it to her in far more eloquent terms than i ever could. Llengrath: It looked like an awesome fight, but I just couldn't come up with any logical reason that a fight was necessary. Thaos: I...can't remember if i I made his soul remember or just returned him to the wheel. I think the latter? You encounter so many people who had either terrible or noble paths who wound up defying their earlier choices. Each reincarnation are fundamentally different people, though they may share the same soul. Making him remember actually seems the cruelest because you're punishing a dozen different reincarnated people down the line. Wait, I take that back. Making him and Iovara spend eternity together would the cruelest. For both.
  4. I know that the dual role character can have one, the other, or both (eg, Edér can be a fighter, a rogue or a swashbuckler). It's been stated that some the current design is that some characters will have the option to multiclass later based on a set of limited options. As for respecing, I haven't heard anything, but since it's a basic option in POE, I really hope so! As for ability scores, likely no, they're intrinsic to the character.
  5. ... During the run of POE1. We became a thayn, which is more or less comparable to a baron as I understand it. I realize this was not mandatory, so disregard this if you just said no to Caed Nua, however: These are late medieval / early renaissance times. When Caed Nua is destroyed in POE2, what happens to our lands and title? Did the Earl just go "whelp, you're impoverished and defenseless, I'm assimilating your lands into mine, so there!" ... Or do we still technically have a fiefdom home in the Dyrwood? If no, are we still considered a noble (in name), regardless of character background?

  8. I'm not really sure that Pallegina joining the Kind Wayfarers is necessarily a bad ending. While she did some some regard for the best interests of the republics (in that she believed her course of action was sensible for the republics too), she always had an undercurrent of concern for the Dyrwood itself that contradicted her duty to the republics. For instance, the Dyrwood abandoning animancy would practically give her home nation(s) supremacy over animancy development, yet she still strongly supported animancy research int he Dyrwood because she thought it was better for the people themselves. I guess what I'm saying is that while she may feel estranged with the kind wayfarers at times, I imagine she would have fewer contradicting goals in their service. When I completed the game for the second time... I still let her figure herself out.
  9. ... because given the rankings they've received in the beta discussion, they seem to have a really bad rep. I really want to bring in my over-the-top AoE debuff/nuke wizard who relies on his teammates to keep him alive (or have Durance or Pallegina perform their "Berath's Swingdoor" technique) while he dishes out unpleasantness into Deadfire. He did do the most damage of any character in POE, but mostly because that was his intended role (and I personally controlled him 90% of the time). However, going by beta comments, spell casting is slow, effects have a tiny duration and do almost no damage, and the winning strategy is to give your wizard half a warrior part-time job and have them poke the enemy with (magical) shiny things instead of casting silly spells. Are people just too dismissive of using wizards as classic offensive AoE masters or are stabbing, slashing and bashing people a lot the new fireball spell? I don't really think I could stop myself from importing the dead-faced bastard as-is and just deal with him vacuum-inhaling Thaos' immortal gonads, but I'd like to know what to expect.
  10. Haa, this all bums me out. Sounds like spellcasters that try to focus on the actual offensive spellcasting and debuffing are really slow and weak. I really want to bring my pure wizard from POE, since I love slinging spell after spell, but if the end result is that the fighters do the same thing better with less effort, I sort of feel obliged to make a wizard/warrior hybrid like like everyone else.

I didn't mind Lady Webb as much as others here, she kept the red thread of the plot gathered, but it seemed like a great missed chance to holding a meeting with your companions and the caretaker in the stronghold to discuss the findings after each main quest. I suppose the flaw in that is that both companions and the Caed Nua were optional. At the very least they could make the Watcher more active in the interaction with Lady Webb, being able to theorize the meaning after each main quest. An intelligent and/or perceptive Watcher should be able to theorize that they fused souls to some sort of greater being.
  12. Hah. I'm kind of worried about everyone tearing down wizards because I'm certainly bringing my POE1 wizard character into the game as my first run. I just love the wide spectrum of terrible things they can do to enemies. Here's to hoping they're balanced come release.
  13. Can you have both a Chant and Paladin Aura active at the same time? So help me Hyla, Pallegina will sing.
  14. Honestly am not going to play the expansion on account of this and will try to return the product. I simply can't make myself undo completing the game, even if it's just an hour or so. I could do it with a secondary character I'm doing, but that was not what I wanted. Does anyone know if Steam will accept refunds for DLC?
  15. It's harassing the Temple of Hylea and it is the task she gives for you to solve. I think you can do it even without her help if you talk with the priests at Oldsong or if you simply go there. There's a path leading up through the Oldsong district to a forest, and there the entrance to the temple is in the north west.
  16. Edér can be made to become mayor of Dyrford instead, quite good at it too. I think it relates to telling him to put behind the gods after the big reveals, probably? Anyway, Hylea and Berath seem like they essentially the same. The thing with Hylea's solution is that it will both have major beneficial effects (newborn, existing fetuses and relatively young children can adapt and awaken), questionable ones (older children may be messed up) and bad ones (parents who recently put their hollow children out of their misery will feel terrible). In choosing between those two, you really have to decide if Hylea's advantages outweigh the drawbacks and if you want to do Berath's quest. I can see the pragmatic side of Magran's and co.'s plan, but she already deceived my main man Durance and I fear what will become of the souls after they are used as interpersonal lubricant. Rymrgand's proposal is weird since he himself says that entropic death will come to all eventually, so would it for these souls so no need to hurry. Anyway, I don't see how killing a hollowborn is unlike not keeping a child with anencephaly alive (strong images folks): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anencephaly - the children are not alive in any sense but a biological one! And has been known, in-world, for years that there is no real cure!
  17. 1: Go up to the north east, attack friendly creatures. This will start combat, but not with the dragon! 2: Summon as many creatures as you possibly can. Kana is really good here. 12+ controlled units is desirable. 3: Have a priest cast Shields for the Faithful followed by Spark the Souls of the Righteous on everything. 4: Quickly Surround adra dragon, have MC cast Scale breaker and attack! 5: Cheeeeeeeeeeeese the dragon with constant lightning damage. Keep reviving and resummoning to keep as many galvanized allies alive and close to the dragon as possible. Took me about 5 attempts, but before that I could always get it down to 1-3 ticks. There's just no way to win it without cheesing it, bit of a shame. On the bright side it was pretty interesting as this tactic required me to get everyone up close and personal and doing my very best to dodge its AOE attacks and healing/reviving people as needed. *Bzzzt*

  19. Abyden: Agree on partial metal/armor head. Berath: I think Death godlikes may be this, maybe not? If you're death godlike and go to the "Ruler of a Barren Land" he greets you as a blessing of Berath. There is also the random encounter mentioned earlier. Rymrgand: Frost or bone? Wael: I like the idea of the face simply being vague. Those who look upon them can see them clearly, but they can't properly process it, and when asked to describe them either find themselves unable or give wildly different descriptions. Woedica: Let them have faces resembling the masks used by the worshipers or cloak-like features. Skaen: Their eyes are always visible yet always deformed. All those who look upon them see a face of resentment, despite the temperament of the godlike and even if the godlike isn't really looking at them.
  20. On - For replayability! I want to know, for example, if I want to make a headstrong second character, should I have 16 or 18 resolve, would I still be able to pick some decent int responses with 14, what skills to invest in to make the conversation completely different the next time. I like knowing that a conversation might have turned out different if my character had possessed greater gonads or better knowledge of poisonous fungi. Besides, I agree with MK1, they can be read as the character thinking "I could snatch that gem right from his hands.. if only I was a little faster. I know I'll fail" or "That story seems dubious, but I don't really know myself (low lore), so better not question it, less I sound like a fool".. And it helps to read the intent of the words you're choosing, avoiding the vagueness that text dialogue can cause.

  23. I don't care as long as it's a top-down game and has a good atmosphere (decent graphics help, excellent ones may or may not help). It has both now.
  24. I like to think PC bothered with 3 or 4 of them and thought "oh that's interesting...", then noticed they were everywhere and just ignored them, because he couldn't be bothered. His companions notice he glimpses at people that are not there once in a while and sometimes he has to ask if the others sees them as well, but he doesn't do his thing unless it's relevant to the progression. What I'm saying is that I don't mind so much because ignoring them makes a lot of sense... Though I would like them to be gone in a sequel. (Is this too spoiler-y?)
