Expansion in two parts
Sonntam replied to BrainMuncher's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The only part that I care about would be pricing. As long as the backers who got the pledge to get the expansion don't have to pay more, it's really irrelevant to me. -
My rogue was all buddy-buddy with Doemenels, because she felt right at home with in the criminal underground. I felt sorry for Defiance Bay in the epilogue, but, whelp, what can one do?

You are stuck with the Dozen and yes it will matter in the long run (at the epilogue of the game). -
Dryford Ruins Sacrifice
Sonntam replied to Asaelshi's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Permanent +1 Might increase. -
1. You have a strong soul, apparently?? Yeah, it was not elaborated on. 2. That was apparently when lots of Engwithans were sacrificed to power the gods and make them as they are now. As you can guess, Thaos contributed a lot to the extinction of the Engwithans as a race. 3. They are made out of energy their worshippers give them and through rituals as the one above. People sacrifice their lifes for the gods, gods become stronger. Gods are not ascendants of any race or any beings, they are just soul energy condensed into a form the Engwithans chose. After their initial formation they were able to keep going without any input except from worship from the kith. It seems to be enough to "feed" the gods. 4. There are several things that could have happened. My character convinced Durance, that Magran meant to stop Eothas, because Eothas plan was to make sure Woedica doesn't rise again. Eothas apparently got wind of what was happening with Dyrwood and Leaden Key. Magran seemed to be secretly allied with Woedica which is why she set out on killing Eothas. Godhammer was Magran's will, but she also didn't want the kith to remember how to kill a god. So everyone who worked on the bomb had to die. Except it didn't work out so well, because Durance left before Magran could ensure his death. And since Durance's link to the Shroud was severed in some way (the Godhammer explosion was rather destructive on all levels, it seems), Magran can't "see" him. So she doesn't even know Durance is alive. It seems to be the most canon version of events, but it also may be that Durance and his allies were not meant to kill Eothas and Magran didn't approve. Otherwise same as before is true: Durance is severed from the Shroud, Magran can't see him, so that is why he is alive and the rest of the Godhammer builders are dead. 4b. Yes, no matter what happened, Magran was cleaning house. Durance left pretty early, without informing anyone, so that is how he escaped with his life. The fact that his godess can't track him down the usual, spiritual way also helped. 5. Gods can do a lot of things. It's just that they have rules and usually follow them. Posessing mortals is something that gods can do, it's just more unusual. For example Skaen is quite known for taking over the Effigy, a willing sacrifice who wants to destroy their masters. 6. Your soul belonged to an Engwithan. That is pretty ancient, if you ask me. 7. Apparently, yes. You saw Thaos, this caused an Awakening, the Awakening also made your Watcher powers activate (which I suppose were part of you already, just never materialized before).

Pallengina Vacuata?
Sonntam replied to DCParry's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
You need to get the quest inside the Valian Trading Complany from the Valian dude there. The quest is about smuggling something to an inn. Later you come back to the company and meet Pallegina. Afterwards she should wait for you outside the Valian Trading Company. And no worries, you should be able to come back to Defiance abay after you visit Twin Elms. -
Fan-Fiction Simulator
Sonntam replied to Xharlie's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Just keep doing quests, really. Companions are really cool, dungeons are fun to explore and one can easily ignore the backer NPCs (which is exactly what those characters with little stories are). Really, you are not even a an hour into the game, just relax and see for yourself ehat the game has to offer you. -
Reloaded a couple times and found out what triggers the quest (and what doesn't). Pallegina has to be with you when you confront Leaden Key assassins in Stormwall Gorge. You have to kill them, otherwise the Leaden Key quest doesn't trigger. If you imprison the assassin or kill the Leaden Key assassins while Pallegina is not in party, then one is out of luck. I hope the developers are aware of this bug and will fix it soon.

Pallegina's Leaden Key quest
Sonntam replied to Sonntam's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I brokered the agreement, but apparently my problem was that I didn't kill the assassins and captured them in my dungeons instead. Now I reloaded, killed the assassins, brokered agreement and then in yhe Valian Embassy ran into the assassins. Is there a follow-up quest or dialogue after this, by the way?- 6 replies

Pallegina's Leaden Key quest
Sonntam replied to Sonntam's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I know the assassins you talk about, but the text string seems to mention different assassins... maybe it's just diverging paths if you don't take Pallegina with you? I returned to Valian Embassy in Act 3, but there were no assassins... hm, maybe I need to go there sooner? Or maybe later? Gah, I don't know.- 6 replies

I looked through text files of the game and found out there is supposed to be a quest with Pallegina about Leaden Key and saving the Valian Ambassador. Apparently there were supposed to be assassins that attacked her at the stronghold while you were away and then she talks to you about this event. However Pallegina never talked about this with me. Did anyone actually do this quest? What triggers it?

Personality and stats
Sonntam replied to Taelon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
1. Personality traits specific dialogue is completely unrelated to any attributes. You can pick Rational even with very low Intellect and so on. 2. Resolve is rather useful for talking your way out of situations and also for lying. Perception can be useful to learn something new about people and use this knowledge to make them do as you wish. Intellect is not so important, but can be situationally useful too. 3. Go with paladins. High Resolve and Perception make good tanks. 4. It's not very noticeable. Just don't worry about it, really.- 3 replies

I finished the game and found lack of content for Pallegina surprising. Digging around text files I saw lines for a quest that didn't trigger for me. The quest is meant to happen in third act and involves Leaden Key assassins going after her and the Valian Ambassador. What triggers the quest? Do you need to go to a certain location?

The Fate of Aloth
Sonntam replied to Primislas's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Depends on your perspective. Time and time again the plot offers you the choice over who should be in control of a person's mind, body, destiny. Was GM in the right trying to manipulate parents? Just to be consistent it felt appropriate to stop these subjugations of Aloth's will by a different entity. Aloth, suspicious as he was about animancy, seemed geniunely remorseful confessing his past with the Leaden Key, and abhorred by what he discovered about them. Whereas Iselmyr repeatedly got him into trouble, being a needlessly confrontational thief, cheater and liar. It's one thing when your alter ego defends you when you're a child horrified of your parents. But come on now, Aloth is an adult. He figured out why Iselmyr awakened. He can reflex, make the right conclusions and grow as a character making her redundant. Like real adult people do. Instead he opted for a second 180 turn on his Leaden Key affiliation in a matter of days because reasons. I think you really overestimate Aloth. He is very risk averse and dominating Iselmyr only makes the matter worse. He may dislike Leaden Key's methods, but he still doesn't agree with animancy and is rather close-minded. He will probably try to use softer methods and not create such large scale destruction... but in the end Leaden Key goals are the same as his. Create a safe place for Eora as a whole through control and subjugation. (Notice the overlying theme? It's alright to surpress the will of others and not to understand them, as long as it benefits you, just like with what you did with Iselmyr.) I'm also not sure why you are calling Iselmyr a liar or a thief. After all, the only time Aloth tried to steal something it was because Aloth himself wanted that. Iselmyr had no say in that. Iselmyr gets him in trouble, when she tries to stand up for him, because Aloth is really rather spineless in most cases. Just like Pallegina said, Aloth has problems with speaking his mind. He could learn from Iselmyr in this aspect. He may have grown and became a formidable wizard, but he still is rather fearful and doesn't really deal with confrontations. -
The Fate of Aloth
Sonntam replied to Primislas's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
If you tell him to accept Iselmyr and use her skills, then he decides at the end of the game to hunt down remaining Leaden Key member and destroy the whole remaining organization. He also burns all Thaos things, because who the hell needs that stuff. I mean, come on, why tell him dominate over Iselmyr. The girl had good ideas about self-defence and protected Aloth. Seems to be rude to tell her just to sit quiet after all she has done. -
[Spoilers] Hylea
Sonntam replied to Longknife's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
How is Berath speculating? What Berath is offering is a certainty. It's the way things work by default. Anything else is variance from the norm. The souls were ripped from bodies. Their natural place would be in the bodies they were stolen from. Equally all souls will eventually "die" through Rymgrand's touch. That is actually part of the Wheel, if you will, since all souls will get worn out and need to be put to rest eventually. Rymgrand only argues that the time has come now. Feeding souls to other souls is a valid way of keeping the cycle up, too. Some animals eat souls and become stronger and some kith make themselves stronger through similar rituals. Since some souls can become shards and break (and through this become weaker) this is important to keep souls strong enough to survive. In a couple decades the decisions will likely not even matter, since the cycle has a way of rebalancing itself. All of this is pretty valid and has a place in the world. It's all natural. -
[Spoilers] Hylea
Sonntam replied to Longknife's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
My issue is I consider it a stretch of the imagination. I can roleplay a character that wishes to do good for the world, but I have no real desire to roleplay a total derp who cannot see Berath as a tempting, more secure counter-offer. If I were to roleplay such a character, I would see both options as being morally good, but with Berath's being less likely to blow something up by a clear mile, and ultimately settle for that choice since all souls have still been saved. I often roleplay really flawed characters who are either very selfish or have personal issues that make thinking clearly difficult. Roleplaying someone who makes good decisions that never blow up their faces is boring. There is a reason I stopped playing complete goody-goody types. I want more drama in my games than that. You make clever characters, I make characters who may not see very clearly. I mean, if my character was a parent who lost a child, would they still feel the same way, that it's more important that the cycle moves on rather than that parents get their children back, broken, but alive? They may emphatise very strongly with the children that had Hollowborn children. People often make good choices as long as they have no personal stake in this. But if someone has an emotional connection, then there is more nuance. Even if such a character would forego Hylea's choice, it would still be interesting from roleplaying perspective, because now they would have to live with the doubts and the "what could have been". -
[Spoilers] Hylea
Sonntam replied to Longknife's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
But, given the nature of the gods.... this is entirely fitting. She is beauty and art and birds and... nothing else. None of the gods have a moral dimension. But she's a derp. The point of choices is they're all supposed to feel valid. I cannot imagine myself being convinced by her, making it hard to think up a character that would support her without that character being a derp themselves. Come to think of it, Wael of all people kind of falls into the same category. Wael's speech is essentially "launch them into SPACE! :D Because SCIENCE! :D" Then when you say "but we have no clue what would happen then and these are lives we're talking about," his response is "exactly! SCIENCE! :D" I'd just be a bit more satisfied if two of my choices weren't derpy as hell. Woedica is the selfish choice, Berath is the sensible one, Magran and co offer the sensible experiment (aka we're not quite sure what this will do entirely but it should at least strengthen those who remain) and the rest make very poor arguments. I think your problem is that you are looking from a logical standpoint and not from the standpoint of roleplaying a character. Someone who is sworn to solve the Hollowborn problem may be tempted by Hylea's suggestion. After all Hollowborn's problem is the lack of souls. If souls are returned to the body, everything should work out well. And if some children die anyway, they will return to the Wheel the normal way. And if some children are already dead, Wheel it is again. It's pretty self-regulatory, except a couple parents become happier this way. As for Wael, he really fits characters that can't decide on a single thing and/or feel this is not their decision to make. After all, gods don't know all there is to the world either. For many characters those choices are really sensible, simply because they have different priorities (making people happy NOW or maybe some characters care more about helping themselves through confronting Thaos and don't really care what happens to the souls themselves). It allows rather good roleplaying. For me all of the solutions were non-choices except what Berath offered. I don't see the point of condemning them, though. More choices is always better than less. -
I wanna kill EVERYONE
Sonntam replied to Chep's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
You can kill Dyrford, Gilded Vale and Defiance Bay (Defiance Bay only after you finish Act II). Twin Elms can be completely annihilated after you do the main quest with praying to gods (maybe even before that, but I'm not sure). There are no real repercussions for any of this. -

Edér and animals.
Sonntam replied to Sylvanpyxie's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
There is a lot of banter in Defiance Bay. Also, resting often triggers dialogues with various companions, yes. Often enough companion talk comes in surges. First no one talks to me in 10 hours, then everyone wants to discuss the latest events. Happens.
