  1. I wasn't too interested in the Collector's Book and the Almanac beofre... but after seeing the pages from Collector's Book and Almanac I knew I HAD to get both. Interesting tidbits of lore, beautifully presented. Exactly what I love.
  2. Paradox, though, is a different matter... Let's just say, it's a good thing the kickstarter campaign compelled Obsidian to promise not to do it. Obsidian hired Paradox to manage production and distribution. Otherwise Paradox has no vote in any kind of matters, including production of DLCs and expansions. Also, Kickstarter did not make Obsidian "promise" anything about DLCs, except that an expansion will get made. If Obsidian suddenly decided to do 10 DLCs with one clothing item in each, nothing would stop them. But it's not Obsidian's style, so I'm not going to worry about that.
  3. I'm probably alone in this, but I found most main themes in video games fairly uninspiring (and even annoying). This goes for Baldur's Gate, Deus Ex, you name it. A more mellow option is in my opinion just right. More epic/heroic music should be reserved for important scenes, not for menu.
  4. Dyrford may be a small village in-game, but if you ask me, it's probably larger in canon. The village has an inn, a tannery, a smith, a healing woman... that is not a something every village would necessarily have, especially a small one with only ten families living in it.
  5. Sorry for off-topic, but are there new portraits? Or did you upload that picture into the game yourself? It looks awesome.
  6. Not to mention that the atmosphere became completely different. You had different environment sounds at night, wolves howling, fire cracking, hushed conversations over campfires... Nights were something really special in Gothic.
  7. I would like to see a sequel in a ompletely diffdrent location. I want to see The White That Wends, Deadfire Archipelago and maybe have a personal ship that you can upgrade like your stronghold.
  8. With the stronghold as a major gold sink I wouldn't worry about having too much money lying around. I personally liked the system in Gothic. You didn't have gold as currency, but ore. Since you were in prison camp it made sense that no ons had too much currency or that one often traded fur/gear/food for items you wanted. If you needed to sell stuff then sometimes it made sense to go to another camp for their traders. Also you could use ore for crafting and you could mine ore. The trading system added a lot to the game in terms of immersion. But the whole system was built around scarce resources as ALL items were scarce: including good gear, maps and magic stuff. I think limited gold in Pillars of Eternity wouldn't add much to the game (except maybe for added annoyance).
  9. Here is an interesting article to this video. It seems the person writing the article was majorly pissed by the sensationalist tone of the video, so he hacked around on that for the biggest part of the article. Still, may be worth reading.
  10. I'm short and a bit overweight in real life and enjoy playing dwarves in video games. They usually are more heavy set than other races and it's pretty fun to play a character who looks a bit like you, but is ten times more badass. I don't like playing REALLY small races like gnomes/Chua/Asura, because it feels weird. Camera to close to the floor, proportions of the body are very odd and the typical "quirky" race personality is annoying ot me. Also, I like playing very tall and muscular races like orcs, aumaua and so on, simply because it's also fun to imagine myself to be like that. This time I'm playing an orlan rogue, because you got to mix things up every once in a while. Not a huge fan of orlan appearance, but I really like their lore.
  11. Despite your hyperbole, and contrary to how things might seem in your eyes, the fanbase here is not the enemy. Nor does the decision to not post here have ANYTHING to do with anyone's posting style. Chris Avellone is Obsidian's creative director. A discussion with him would NOT be about game mechanics anyway. It would be about... writing. And maybe even quest design. As it happens, there hasn't been a single day since the kickstarter pitch where a Romance thread (for example) hasn't been an active topic on these forums. One would think that Avellone, of all people, would have words to say on the subject, or stance to argue on such matters, or even an alternative to peddle to those who are disappointed in Obsidian's decision to not have them in PoE. But... nada. He's simply not present in this particular community. He already spoke about romance in interviews. I'm not sure what more you want to hear from him. More of the same "sorry, folks, but I don't know how to write romance, I don't like writing romance, so that's why there is no romance" stuff? Generally I find presence of writers on forums ludicrous. There are enough spoilers floating around already. And I would like to learn to know the game world better through playing the game and not reading about it here on the forums.
  12. I rewatched the video, but can't find the place where he shot chainmail. Could you give me the exact time, please? Also, I reeeeally doubt that his particular set of tricks would help on a horse. The guy seems to be ingenious and could learn it in time, but horse riding and shooting asks for a really big adjustment. For one you need good riding skills to control the horse and shoot at the same time. Plus there is wind (unlike in the halls the guy is training) and the distances between the target and the archer are way bigger. What he is doing right now seems to be fun parlor tricks, but he just seems to try out whatever is cool and not necessarily most efficient in theoretical combat.
  13. While it's true that sometimes the tone here gets a bit abrasive, I still think the back and forth here is more productive then retreating to the sanctum of the echo chamber. Reading =/= interacting. People post here good feeback, but what devs can say to that is essentially "yes, I agree on that, we'll try to fix that" or "we don't agree with that, won't change a thing". First one is not really that interesting, even if it's nice to know that the issue will be fixed. The second one is a good source for a long drawn-out argument that will get you nowhere. Devs are listening to what is being said on the forums. But talking to fans can be done on other platforms and if they prefer doing the talking elsewhere, more power to them. I personally find Josh Sawyer's tumblr a lot more useful than just scouring the dev tracker.
  14. Contact support and ask them if you can upgrade your pledge. They should be able to help you out.
  15. I protest! I have never heard better music than from an orc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4yEVPAUnEw&index=1&list=PLyLrfxRkzcd5vuXrRhqDbp0zeJhQhXSbP To be honest, music from Of Orcs and Men is my absolute favorite fantasy soundtrack. Distinctive style, very atmospheric and fits the various locations of the game pretty much perfectly.
  16. When you try hard enough you can make anything look bad. I will not bother replying until you quit your agenda first and present stuff in more neutral manner. That's exactly the point! All attribute systems are pretty ridiculous, because they encompass too many different things and are rather unrealistic by default. It may seem that DnD attributes are more logical, but I would argue that this is because we are so used to this system.
  17. Then soloing will be a breeze on the second playthrough. Simply avoid those situations/quests/areas where combat is required. I have a strong feeling that some main quests will have unavoidable combat.
  18. Buyer's regret in the most extreme form.
  19. 26th March is right in the middle of university vacation fo rme. I'm sure as hell am not going to wait. If there are some game breaking bugs that stop me from moving on through the main plot line, I will just do side quests or stuff.
  20. I made the mistake of reading the price complaint thread there. Now I kinda hate humanity. I thought it was hilarious. Steam forums in general tend to have the most absurd threads. Whenever I feel down, I go to forums of my favorite games and have a good laugh.
  21. I'm not even sad. I'm impressed. Fun fact: I played Mask of the Betrayer entirely with cheat codes. Turn on at start of the fight, turn off at end of the fight. It was a hassle, but still better than dealing with the combat system. Maybe it wouldn't have been so bad, if I played NWN2 to the end, but the game was so boring, I just skipped over to MotB and didn't regret a thing. I'm hoping Pillars of Eternity combat system will be easier to learn. If not... cheats, here I come.
  22. Equally you may ask a question to Josh Sawyer on tumblr. It took him like two weeks to answer my question, but, hey, still nice. And now he seems to be answering more questions than usually.
  23. There actually are butterflies in game! I noticed one when Josh went through city gates. I was pretty happy to see that butterfly. He was trolling and making fun of us. Who cares, I'm still damn excited about the butterfly. Crickets and butterflies. Who needs populated cities, when our insect overlords are in game.
  24. There actually are butterflies in game! I noticed one when Josh went through city gates. I was pretty happy to see that butterfly.
  25. If you ask me, that's great. It means I get to shove all my favorite companions in one party and won't agonize over the decison whether to leave Pallegina or Eder at stronghold. Plus, it's better to have 8 well written companions with lots of content for each one of them, instead spreading it thin on 16 characters.
