  1. Perception often opens up new dialogue options. Sometimes it allows pacifistic quest solutions, sometimes you just get some details. I didn't have high Intelligence, so no clue how often it appears, same about lore. Perception and Resolve are the stats that are most commonly used in dialogues, so I got them as high as possible and used them pretty much in at least one out of three quests.
  2. Nice to see all the great writers that worked on the game! Really got to remember all the names. Absolutely loved all the companions, I can't even say who I liked the most of them all. Obsidian truly has a lot of talented writers.
  3. Most difficult fights can't be done this way (Lighthouse, various drakes and dragons, Bounties). When those fights trigger, you get the whole deal. Plus, the way I saw it the smaller packs were meant to be pulled separately, because if you tried them all you would get floored.
  4. Are you kidding me? He had been the most fun of them all! Especially when you quest with him in Northweald and do Sagani's quest he was great. And in main quest where you ask for God's help he had the best comments. Hell, even during very last main quest he was pretty cool.
  5. Personally would stay away from him as far as possible, but he's actually pretty awesome as a character. His whole conflict is interesting and main character's relationship with him is pretty dynamic and fun. You can call him a lot on his bull**** and his fuming is pricelss to watch. I've been trying to be semi-nice to him but he doesn't seem to like my actions (Is there really any way to actually please that guy?). I think he's great and well-written character but I also hate him. I just can't dump him just yet because they built that mystery around him from the start, and I want to see the rest of it. I've just recently stopped giving a **** about my companions opinions and it's been pretty great. Don't be nice to him! He doesn't deserve it and doesn't want you to be nice to him either. Be mean and poke holes in his arguments. Make him sweat and question his life choices. That is the only way interactions with him are bearable anyway.
  6. Congratulations, your Watcher is having flashbacks. Maybe it's best not to relive those traumatic experiences and stop visiting places like that.

  8. Do quests for the Valian Trading Company and then you shall unlock her. You may also need to talk to her just outside Valian Trading Company doors (but that will be possible only when you finish Valian Trading Company quests).
  9. At the beginning your disposition will be all over the place. I think by Defiance Bay, though, I had more clear-cut reputation.
  10. I turned the dispositions off and felt better for it. Dialogue feels a lot more natural. You don't have to take the same options all the time and if your character is more clever/diplomatic/rational then you will anyway take the necessary options. I wanted to make a clever/deceptive character and in time my reputation really became this.
  11. You can talk to the dragon and about why she came to this place. Then you can make a choice to let her live. As for the druid sect, I have no clue. It seems one must kill the dwarf archdruid, even though I personally would have expected there to be a more elegant choice
  12. I think it's great. I often use it on enemies that heal/buff their allies, so once they are friendlies, I get all the bonuses from them. And with so many friendly fire spells it should be no problem to kill them all off, too.
  13. Accuracy is only a problem against higher level enemies. You are probably in a zone you are not ready for.
  14. Go up north. You shall find a looter camp, they will attack you and at this camp is what you need.
  15. Depends on your level, really. I went in when I was level 6, was really tough, so I gave up half-way through the battle. I suppose it could be done, it just would take more effort on my part. I was too lazy for that, I guess.
  16. Perhaps you should leave Gilded Vale first. It's by far the most drab and gray zone of the whole game. There are plenty of pretty zones when you leave that place. I personally really enjoyed the art of the game. My favorite are the mushroom infested cavesand some of the Glanfathan ruins. They are really quite something.
  17. Probably for the best you don't read it, it's got some vague main story spoilers. Reviewer also says that there are not many plot twists in side quests, but the game excells at difficult moral decisions. He also says that companions are not really on PS:T level, but more toned down like in BG or Bioware games. So nothing overly special and overly exciting, but still okay.
  18. Dreamt today whole night about playing the game... surprised I even slept at all with all the excitement buzz I have.
  19. When playing good games, I often forget to eat alltogether. Had more than one time when I opened a bag of chips and after three hours realized it was still untouched. Might as well go with something nourishing and healthy.
  20. Been going back and forth even till today... but in the end I chose Steam. Preload + faster patches + possibility to upgrade my edition to include documentary & almanac for a cheaper price.
  21. I had to restart some games due to bugs or making some bad choices... each time I raged at least for an hour and then didn't pick up the game for half a year. Then maybe I'd replay it properly, but the first impression was already ruined. This is something I really don't want to happen to Pillars of Eternity I don't really play Obsidian games for excitement and live or die choices. In Pillars of Eternity I would like to kick back and relax. Hell, I still may run into major problems that may make me restart anyway... so let's keep that risiko to a minimum. I may do an Ironman playthrough after I finished the game, to mix things up and make it more exciting, but definitely not now.
  22. What alternative do you propose? What OP wants is basically always choosing [Diplomatic] dialogue options. You don't need any special class for that. If you also want to be charismatic, however, then Resolve may help. If you want to convince people through arguments, then you need arguments (diplomats do need some brain, after all). If you want to recognize someone lying to you, Perception may help (a diplomatic person that believes anything one tells them is just a tool). You can choose to manipulate people with all of those stats, but also you may choose not to. Also, OP's focus seems to be on talking their way out of any situation, not being an upstanding citizen that will be as nice and kind as possible.
  23. It's still a thing. It's just that some backgrounds are not available for some cultures. For example, it's available for Old Valia, but not for White That Wends.
  24. I like higher difficulties, because they force you to experiment and go out of your comfort zone. But at the same time, I notice that I stop taking fun/interesting abilities I may be interested in, because I try to optimize too hard. At some point I often take a step back and say, well, from optimization standpoint this choice is terrible, but I really want to build my character this way, so I will do that even if I have to lower the difficulty/use cheats. Ideally I customize with optimization at the back of my mind, but in the end it's always more important to have fun and go with the option you like the most. Optimization for optimization's sake is something I do in MMOs. In a single-player game i like to relax and do my own thing.
