Two 'big big cities' and a stronghold are things I'm very much looking forward too. I love big cities in rpgs and think they're not done nearly often enough. The just offer such a wide range of things you can do with them. You can build and destroy, you can have intrigue (not much intrigue in the wilderness, now is there?) You can have fun with different styles in different city districts. From slums and sewers and caves to market bazaars, high domed temples and elaborate city parks and gardens. From guard stations to barracks to the wealthier districts. And a large concentration of people is a rich breeding ground for conflict, centralisation of power (factions, factions and even more factions)a\ and a ton of **** more. Cities are just very rich source material for adventure.- RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS
No penalties for killing in the next thief, nor different goals for higher difficulties http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-feature/2013/10/09-1/feature-interview-with-thief-senior-producer-and-narrative-director I think I'm going to give this game a pass. I'm sick of games trying to empower you to the point that there is no challenge. Awesomeness simulators are cool and all, but that's better for assassins creed, not thief. it's why I ignored dishonored- Xcom
I did something I haven't really done since spore: I pre-ordered. I hope the hype is justified, but tbh, I always was going to get the expansion.- What you did today

I guess she has to bend over and pick it up, hur hur.- Project Eternity and Surface Pro 2
eh, this isn't the right forum to ask that question, for so many reasons. 1. Not project eternity related, 2, wasteland 2 is not being run by obsidian, and 3, even if it were project eternity, I imagine this would go in the Project Eternity: Widgets and Bytes forum (which it doesn't)- What you did today
blowfish encryption is the best. But you need an identical codecard on either side As for legalisation of drugs, I disagree with you bruce. For easy to produce drugs like alcohol, tobacco or weed, yes. Because these cannot be effectively banned. one of those three isn't even that harmful (the weed) But harddrugs as they're called here, should remain banned. Coke and Meth destroys lives. It's also been shown that a secure supply of softdrugs prevents 'gateway' behaviour to heavier drug use. (Though it's been shown that Alcohol, not weed, does function as a gateway drug. But good luck banning something every person with yeast, sugar and water can make.)- How can they make P:E interesting at 'Epic' levels?
JFSOCC replied to Death Machine Miyagi's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I agree, Oh Dae Su's desperate (and injured) fight against fifteen goons in a hallway is a good deal more epic than two dragon riding wizards flinging +4000 fireballs against each other. Overwhelming odds are not the same as large numbers. Remember, Goku's power level may have been over 9000, but those numbers IIRC inflated pretty fast. (yes, I know a tiny bit about dragonball, I am deeply ashamed) If my left pinky can destroy worlds, that does not feel empowering, it feels boring.- um well i just started play BG 1 enchantec edition nice game. but
I say we don't warn or ban anyone that frivolously. especially when the majority of PE's backers are not native English speakers.- RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS
Fixed it. watching it since I don't have a console and it's not coming out on PC- Souls in gameplay
- Your thoughts on multi-classing
in DnD3.5I found it incredibly useful to multiclass a rogue with a ranger, because of the dual wielding combat style bonuses and the favoured enemy bonuses are nothing to sneer at, on top of that 6+int is not that far off 8+int, so you kept your edge as utility character, while also gaining armour and weapon proficiencies that would require the rogue to waste rare bonus feats on. It was basically exchanging an absurdly powerful sneak attack ability for a moderately powerful sneak attack and a lot more combat survivability. it even allowed you some magic and an Animal companion. On top of that I felt it fit my personality to roleplay a character which loves both the city and nature, who cares about self reliance in any environment, and whom I feel has a lot of dualism in his character.- Alternate Class names
You just don't go easy on people translating games to other languages, do you? Unconsciously you would make us (foreigners) have to change the "barbarian" to something else. "Dreadnought" literally is translated to something that in polish resembles more of a "armadillo". Tough luck in searching for a good synonym for "barbarian", we would have to stick with that nonetheless... so the entire class-name change fails on foreign ground. Even oficcial class-names, like "cipher" are tricky to transtale! People responsible - have fun with that. Dread (fear) nought (nothing) Call them fearless instead. or Braves, I dunno. I have a pet peeve against localisation anyway, I've always felt that something should be enjoyed in the original language, if possible. But that probably comes from having seen Dutch translations fail at keeping meaning and emotional depth of the original work. Plus, I learned to speak, read and write English because I came in contact with it through media; this would not have happened had everything be translated to Dutch. I'm perfectly fine with forcing a player to spend some time choosing his class. But maybe that's just me I can see the problems you (and some others) have with the rogue, but it seems to be with the function, rather than the name of the class. I'm not sure if we know enough yet to determine that. However, the idea that a rogue is a street/dirty fighter who knows to strike where it hurts has always been part of the rogue stereotype. Giving them extra critical damage makes sense IMO. More damage output doesn't mean they're the superior combatants anyway. It might very well be that this bonus is easily outmatched by armour or ability, or that the fighter class compensates by having much more utility in combat, apart from his damage output. I imagine that fighters may have lower damage per second, but probably have more seconds in which to do damage before needing to withdraw,- Movies You've Seen Recently
Well, yes, but that could mean he sits on that couch in a few bits, sits around a board table for a few minutes, has a phone convo or two, and then has a 5 minute end-film fight sequence.- Movies You've Seen Recently
Man of Tai Chi The plot is fairly basic, but it was well directed (by Keanu Reeves) and the Kung-Fu was pretty well done. I like that Keanu Reeves kept his training up, not enough actors maintain the skills they learn for movies. There was one sentence in the film which elevated it for me, otherwise I would have been less kind. And I like that it was very different from most martial arts flicks, especially those made in Hong Kong.- RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS
maybe not "news" exactly, but some closure for me for the spore fiasco. http://www.designer-notes.com/?p=654- Oliver's story time!
Could you elaborate? Sounds like I could absorb some of that lesson. ditto, especially since nanowrimo is around the corner.- What you did today
explain to them that the history hasn't changed, it was misrepresented in the first place. You never had a failing grade.- What are you playing now?
No you don't! You're not going to improve if you don't get back on the horse after it throws you! There is no shame in losing, tbh, I don't know if you can come back from a bad situation anyway. If you fall behind, usually you stay behind. (don't let that dissuade you from trying though, you'll feel all the more rewarded for it when you do meet with success) The insectoids, with which I think you mean Chrysalids (as they are the only creatures to create zombies) are a plague. I deal with them with extreme prejudice, they're always priority targets. If I can kill 3 of any other unit, or one chrysalid, it'll be the chrysalid meeting its doom. A few tips for combat: always bring at least one recruit with your best team, it's easier saving them and levelling them. If you have limited armour, give your best armour to the newbie. Ideally you should always have 12 units that can deal with threats, so you can recover from a team wipe. try rotating out your better soldiers to give others a chance. If you want to be effective against incoming forces, always keep your teammembers within range of eachother, it's the best defence against chrysalids or flanking. It also means that if you have an enemy within range, one hit is not going to make or break, you'll have backup to deal with them. Nothing sucks harder than having a 90% shot miss, and losing your best sniper because you had no team members nearby to cover for his or her failure. I learned that the hard way. In terror missions, I find it pays to be aggressive, the faster you rescue civilians, the less fodder for the chrysalids to turn. But this comes with the caveat that you shouldn't break up your team. that's not an absolute rule, but a guideline. As for shooting down UFO's, there are 3 special consumable items you can create to aid during the interception, these are incredibly useful. I made it my business to always have 2 of each of them, I have NEVER let a(n?) UFO get away. They can ruin your satellites if you do, and that's too expensive to fix. Anyway, keep it up, you'll get better, I swear! This, I had this mission open and only played it when my panic levels started to rise. I had kept it as I had correctly guessed it would do wonders in bringing them down. It's a good way to give your self some breathing room. armour trumps weaponry. Because a soldier that can take a few hits can leverage those extra turns into extra damage output. You can have great damage, but if you drop quickly, that makes no difference. one last thing. Always pick snap-to shots for sniper, and always pick lightning reflexes for assault.- The funny things thread
