  1. yeah, but I don;t frequent those forums, and didn't learn about it till yesterday.
  2. I'd love to know more about factions, gods and I'd like to see more animations.
  3. maybe next time there is an option (contest, maybe) for people who aren't rich but still dedicated fans to have an opportunity to contribute. I'm sure many of us are envious of those backers who could. I certainly am.
  4. wow excellent post OP. it's true that it's been BG2 where I learned to "save often and in different slots" I don't consider that a good thing, any more. I do appreciate having a huge quest hub like Athkathla, however, my time on this forum convinced me (and Josh's post set me on that path) that some kind of quest-staggering is a good thing. I would have kept the amount of quests in the city, but I would not have made all of them available at once. I'd have given the player reason to come back to places at various points in the game. I believe it would end the "I did all the quests and now this place is devoid of interesting content, lets move on" attitude I get from playing many games. for the rest of your post, all good points, and I find I have little else to add. Evil is dumb
  5. so PoE will have subdued colour palette for environments and vibrant colours for spell effects. Could I have it the other way around, pretty please? Does magic truly rely on glitter?
  6. I figured a while back there might be other schemes wealthy people might fall for in a world with reincarnation. But doing something like this... considering how people in the real world try all sorts of hocus pocus for hair growth, **** enlargement, longer life, cure for aids. etc. From the eating of dried snake or keratine, to the raping of six year old children, to voodoo, to magnetism to numerology... yeah, I'm not surprised a wealthy noble would rush in before thinking about the consequences.
  7. [attribute] markers before dialogue options. Hey, looks like I get what I want!
  8. My problem with the Tolkien elves is that they are too perfect. Humans are always late on the scene, short-lived, unwise but quick to learn. Elves are long lived, ancient, wise, playful, beautiful, and masters at everything... yawn.
  9. I'm not arguing against player customization, in general. I'm simply observing that there's got to be more consideration put into what to make customizable than "would someone possibly maybe want to skip this and/or do this differently?" I believe it was said that PoE weas going to have a tremendous amount of toggles for various difficulty affecting gameplay options. It's not that much of a stretch to think we'll find even an option/toggle for what is discussed here.
  10. What? Why? To think you people actually exist. I have no words... http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/63635-will-interactions-have-cutscenes-or-just-dialogue-windows/?p=1450233 If you think a wall of text is good writing I've got news for you... Good writing is sometimes long and winding, but just as often succinct and short. It depends on the situation. But you have to worry about reader fatigue. If every dialogue no matter how trivial drops a books worth of text in front of you, well, most people will start skimming soon, and miss it when finally there IS a large text containing important information. You need to be especially careful about exposition dialogue, something many beginners fail at. Not only is exposition dialogue lazy, it is often disrespectful to the reader. There are many tools for conveyance, and text isn't the only one. I'm not worried about obsidian's writing though, so this is more of an academic argument than anything else. Long text ≠ good text.
  11. I love to read, but seriously, do you only want walls of text delivering you the narrative? yes, if it means better written dialogue npc makes a 10 line philosophical argument 1. 2 line serious response 2. 1 line joking response 3. 5 line philosophical response 4. 3 line political debate 5. 1 line ignorant response 6. goodbye depending on the player choice, the npc may give up to a 15 line response the cost to voice act a dialogue of that size would be prohibitive, so the same dialogue would be altered to (with all the implications that would have to the quality of the discussion and how well it could make the player understand the situation) npc sumarizes his 10 line into a 3 line philosiphical argument 1. 1 line serious response 2. 2 line philosophical response 3. 1 line political debate 4. goodbye depending on the choice the npc may give up to a 5 line response You misunderstand me. I'm not talking about voice over dialogue. I'm talking about delivering narrative through gameplay, through environment art, and through music and sound. You can write a large exposition dialogue about how an evil cult is evil, or you can show a pile of skulls at the entrance to their lair, have foreboding music and hear chanting and as you approach have a small animated cutscene where you see three innocent civilians being sacrificed on their altar of blood. (yes, I made this deliberately cliché and obvious. it is merely meant to illustrate a point) You've given the message without uttering a single line of dialogue. I'm not saying you can't have text, even lots of it, but it is but one of the many tools of delivering the game narrative to you, and depending on it exclusively is just plain stupid. Walls of text will not hold your attention for long either. Not if every node is a wall of text. As proud as they were, even Bohr and Einstein admitted that they couldn't finish the Principa written by Newton (written to be purposefully dense, because Newton only wanted the brightest to comprehend it.) Good writing is also knowing when to be sparing with words.
  12. I recall reading that the deities are prone to being meddlesome and involve themselves in the world to advance their agendas. This suggests to me that they'll take an interest in what their clergy are doing and have the potential to bestow boons and inflict reprimands upon those who profess to speak and act in their name. The deity itself as envisioned and sculpted by Obsidian will be the ultimate arbiter of the mysteries and dogma of their denomination. This will variously have its roots in the reputation system and certain key dialogues throughout the story. that's a good argument. I wonder if all deities are like that. I also wonder how far they would go to do this, but I suppose anyone going too far will find themselves excommunicated.
  13. Agreed! there is tremendous gameplay potential in spells like these! I don't know man, there are some pretty disparate ideas of what constitutes a true believer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gb_qHP7VaZE Any army/general may surrender after Bleak Walkers are unleashed, but the paladins explicitly do not ask for nor give mercy/surrender. If a warlord said, "Hey, Bleak Walkers, take out this town," and then halfway through the attack, the ruler of the city tried to surrender, the warlord would have a problem on his hands if he wanted to accept. Bleak Walkers won't call off an attack even if their "employer" asks them to or turns forces on them. The Bleak Walkers believe this behavior is necessary to make it clear what is going to happen when they get involved. Shock troops. One supposes that the dread that they engender is a two edged sword in a campaign, it may shake the soundest moral and yet due to the inevitability of their actions it may also steel a faltering defenders metal. We cannot surrender to these individuals, let us make an end worth fighting for etcetera. I wonder if having a Bleak Walker in your party will prevent you from taking prisoners because they will insist on killing them. I think that'll be one of those moments where you might get party conflict, at least. Reading this thread has convinced me, that there is rich story potential for the Bleak Walkers.
  14. From the short description those orders and deities sound rather two-dimensional (maybe not the god of death) and that is a BIG disappointment. I mean, PLEASE tell me there is more nuance than the short descriptions given in this post, otherwise, perhaps you can have a look at one or two of the gods posted in the Gods thread in my signature I like the chanter a lot, It makes me doubt between playing a rogue and chanter, which is obviously a good thing. As for the priest, well, it was never a class I had much interest in, so I don't really mind the choices one way or the other. I'm not a fan of the spellcasting as depicted in the videos, but it's very similar to the IE games so I can accept them. But the "arcane" sounding invocations have always seemed absurd to me. "Bladiebadus, arcanus, rattus magnificus! Booyashakala!" just sounds like a made up language. Caldos mithra vela!... nope. Maybe if you just made it English, or Aedyran (which you've worked out) I guess. Or maybe it is Aedyran and I haven't gotten that because I haven't heard the language spoken. But to me it sounds mega-lame. One of the things I thought of Baldurs Gate II as well, so... there's that. Imagine having to hear the same three word sentence spoken with epic significance every encounter... Edit: I do love those portraits, they keep surprising me with how well made they are!
  15. I love to read, but seriously, do you only want walls of text delivering you the narrative?
  16. I don't have experience playing JRPGs but I agree wholeheartedly with the core point. Yes, I like reading, but games have so much more options to deliver narrative than text. Why limit yourself?
  17. There's an epidemic of Hyperbole going around.
  18. yeah! that'd be 6pm for me, no more midnight updates!
  19. those cars must get into head on collisions with others of the same make a lot.
  20. I don't know if it will be in or not, but it will not be based on alignment, as those are not in the game.
  21. the benefit of PoE heraldry, I imagine, is that it isn't bound by the same limits as real world heraldry. I'm curious, will we be able to tell character traits or house traits based on their heraldry? Like, I recently saw in QI that a knight who killed someone who had begged for mercy would have his heraldry altered to depict this foul deed... Would be cool. Though I admit I know practically nothing about the topic, I love what I'm reading here. Is there going to be a resource in-game for what certain heraldry means? or is it something of a nod to those who do know something about it, and not affect the game otherwise? I'd be cool if at some point you could design your own, or have your own designed based on some of the traits/choices you made. Ah, I know, pipe dreams and too much scope. still, one can fantasize.
  22. I hope "monsters" and "animals" aren't as much the dichotomy they appear to be in many RPG's.
  23. I don't know, will Project Eternity eventually be included in humble bundle and steam sales? likely. Todays game market is significantly larger than the market in the times of baldurs gate 1/2, but that also means there is more competition. In reality you can't predict it. I think it will probably outsell Divinity: Original Sin. But I think it will depend on the reviews as much as the price. With steam and GOG releases, availability won;t be an issue (I think) But I won't ballpark a figure because that's just pure speculation. I do believe it'll earn its production costs, and then some. It'll turn a profit, for sure.
  24. I'd imagine I'd fear death a little less, and loss a little more. I'd find something like a soulmate more likely, and I would always keep wondering who I was and who I will be.
