LadyRenae wish you the best on the job front. If you should end up changing your address at any time during the next two years, all you need to do is to email Obsidian at mailto:support@obsidian.net and they will update your shipping address.

I feel a natural appearance is good, no need to over do it. Design the character models utilizing a range of features and flaws. Some should be fat, some too tall, some with obvious deficiencies. Point being that few will be perfect.

Yes to romance. I want to explore the relationships the player character will have with his or her companions. Relationships is not about sex, the more significant aspects are the emotions, how NPCs react and interact with the player, and through them will bring the player through small stories, providing further insight on the NPC. Also relationships are an excellent hook to introduce the player to side quests. Romances which prove to be fruitful and those that end in failure or even tragedy, a romance provides a rich backdrop to add more value to the player. And oh all that can be set up outside of the main quest, so the player can avoid getting into any of it if he or she so desires.

This topic reminds me of city building games. As the fledgling warlord, you set up a small fort, then it gets expanded into a castle as your influence grows. As your fame increase, you attract more people to your banner, until eventually a small town forms around your stronghold. Nice idea, but do not think the devs will go for it, because this is an RPG adventure, not a city builder. I see improvements like these will be available through mods.

How long will PayPal stay open?
Krios replied to Huskypaw's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
My mistake, I did not see the announcement earlier. -
messing up with KS pledge
Krios replied to vahadar's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Not with Kickstarter. Donations through PayPal seem to still be open. Maybe write in to Obsidian first, check to see they are still accepting pledges through PayPal before you actually click. -
How long will PayPal stay open?
Krios replied to Huskypaw's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I fully expect the Kickstarter rewards to be closed already. With the Kickstarter officially over, it makes no sense to be giving out the associated rewards any longer. To be safe than sorry, I recommend anyone thinking to donate through PayPal to write to Obsidian and get their answer on this before you donate. -
Obsidian mail with all the goals?
Krios replied to Thortxu's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Not that I have gotten any such email, however anyone interested in finding out which goals were reached can easily go see them on the Project Eternity kickstarter page. You do not need to wait for an email for that. -
The developers have considered putting in several levels of difficulty: Expert Mode, Trial of Iron, and Path of the Damned. The higher difficulty levels will be designed to make things harder, potential exploits will be balanced by the additional difficulty factors. It boils down to I believe a balancing act.

To me it is a question of why do you regret pledging as you did. If you feel that you had pledged too little, why is that? Is it because you wanted the merchandise? If it is because you wanted a particular item which only appears in a higher tier, I would not be surprised to see some of the merchandise offered again to the public at the later date. Unsold merchandise has to be sold at some time. Or is it because you wanted to give more in support of Obsidian? If that is the case, then worry not, there will be more opportunities for you to part with your money. If you feel you had pledged too much, and is now thinking of reducing or even withdrawing your pledge, to me that is tantamount to credit/debit card fraud. You will have effectively gone back on your word to show your material support. If you agree with my reasoning, then there is no good reason to regret pledging. Instead put the ball in Obsidian's court and see how they will be playing the next round. Then perhaps you will find a stronger reason for regret, no?

I think Obsidian has made a splash by breaking the record at Kickstarter. Besides sending a message to publishers, I think the more significant impact will be felt by people who have ambitions to go into making games, people who are thinking of going indie but are on the fence about taking the plunge. Obsidian has with its success this time and with its support of the Kick It Forward initiative, tipped the scales slightly more in favor of the indie developer. I believe we will see more quality games made with a smaller budget. This kickstarter has I believe convinced many skeptics to reconsider their previous beliefs that the crowd will only buy from big name publishers.

Romance and friendship?
Krios replied to Krikkert's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It's no mystery why when you go through mod databases you will find many fan made companions which feature romance or banter packs. When you take banter up to a level, it becomes romance. It is an evolution of what people want in their games. Project Eternity is a single player game. Unless you prefer to play solo, I find it unrealistic to rule out having romance options entirely. It is part of what makes us human. Personally I hope Obsidian will infuse the human races with a human nature. Have the NPCs embrace their nature and come alive. I believe the players can relate to that and it will resonate with the fans. -
Development time too short
Krios replied to PeonWarrior's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Take the time to make sure the actual release is what you want to show to your fans, but remember to keep some fan interest in the game alive. I feel a publisher is easier to appease, you show them the money. The fans will want a lot and expect more. -
Chris Avellone playing Arcanum
Krios replied to Starker's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Seeing that they put it up as a stretch goal, I will expect the playthrough to be accessible by everyone, for the sake of accountability, among other reasons. And I also expect the session to last more than 5 mins. - this point is on faith, I trust Chris will give his backers their money's worth. I suggest YouTube for the streaming, and please include it in the documentary for us to enjoy forever. -
Backer Badges
Krios replied to Byeohazard's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yes OP is most likely referring to the reward tier badges. I am guessing Obsidian will implement them in a way similar to the Developer badges, the special tags will appear below our avatars. Pending clarification from the staff of course. -
A friend and I was talking about people's expectations and why some changed their mind. Having met their funding goals by day #2, the ball is in Obsidian's court to prove their critics and those who are on the fence wrong. And to their backers, they will need to deliver on as much of their promises as possible. Party all night tonight, work 100% from tomorrow onwards.

I saw we have with Kickstarter and Pappal combined surpassed the 4 million mark. The victory is ours - the backers I was watching the stream, saw some people drinking, but not sure it's all beer. Yes with Project Eternity being made by some of the people originally responsible for the classics, PE will be as close to being a descendant of those games as possible.

NEW STRETCH GOAL!
Krios replied to Loranc's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I am at my limit money wise, but I will be crossing my fingers for this one. Enhancements FTW! -
I am not in the U.S. If Obsidian can ship some of the pens and other small loot (sans the chip) my way, that will be great! Watching a bit of the stream now, the artwork is nice, interesting to see how it all came together.
