PE's first screenshot today?
Krios replied to chisled2bone's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
With <insert name of backer here> in the credits -
I am imagining the scene of my companions lounging around the Hall, reminiscent of the Camp in Dragon Age. I liked that, perhaps an online lobby will make it into the game or maybe in the expansion pack. The more I think about it, the more I like to see the Adventurer's Hall functioning like the Camp. Our own place to find out more about our companions, sharpen our weapons, down a few mouthfuls of ale, etc. Mods will likely be able to allow us to upload / download our companions. Like an import / export feature, only this one affects companions.

Living world?
Krios replied to jerf's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I am okay with the idea, but this is not another Elder Scrolls game. A lot of times I see the term 'Living World' the terms 'Bethesda', 'Elder Scrolls' float up. The old IE games were not living worlds, and if we are to stay true to that formula, then I am thinking we should go light on the Living World feature or even avoid it altogether. -
PE's first screenshot today?
Krios replied to chisled2bone's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I am thinking it's some scenery. We have already seen character concept art, I think a location art may need more time to be ready. So I am thinking it's a generally generic overview of some place, maybe a forest with some animals foraging. -
Digital Download of Expansion Pack +$20 Obsidian is offering for a limited time add-on for the expansion pack at $20 per digital copy. You just need to up your pledge accordingly (both Paypal and Kickstarter will support this) Pick the 'Donate your own amount' option and put in there the price you will pay for the expansion pack, in this example it is $20 per copy. Obsidian will email you after the kickstarter has ended to find out from you how you wish to allocate the funds you are pledging. In this case tell them you wish to buy an additional copy of the digital expansion pack.

Josh Sawyer VGRevolution Interview
Krios replied to C2B's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I was surprised to read Josh stand on Multiplayer is it is a feature which is typically under-utilized by players. Personally I am glad Obsidian is trying to keep their focus and stay true to their vision of no consoles and single player. Thanks for the share. -
Steam and GOG
Krios replied to HumanFlesh+5's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Using Steam streamlines your updating and other game management tasks. And it does so with little input from you, a lot can be and is automated. That is certainly a plus for people who want things to be taken care of nicely and be saved some trouble when the installation / update fail. If you get the game from GoG, you are pretty much on manual pilot. I do not see installing and starting the game will be much of a problem. If you do run into technical issues, you can always come back on here to ask other players and the support staff for help. Instead I think the lack of DRM and the 'you buy it, you keep it' model is a key area of difference between GoG and Steam. -
Hooray for the Adventurer's Hall Anything more from here on in is like more toppings on an already very delicious cake. I am hoping Obsidian will continue to expand their staff line with more A-listers even after the fundraiser has ended. I think the best reward to everyone is a good game becoming an even better game. I do have a question: looking at the breakdown of the rewards, will Steam versions of the game still be offered to pledgers? And to Obsidian: when you love us, we know how to love you back

Yes I assume you can support them even after the Kickstarter is over. However I am thinking the kickstarter tiers and rewards will no longer be available. But I believe they will offer portions of the rewards as incentives for people to continue to support them. As for the stronghold, whenever I play these big adventure style RPGs I like to have a stronghold. Even if I do not use it, I like to know I have one if I wish to use it. I would prefer several choices of strongholds with options to upgrade them to provide different functions and services. This adds replayability so that is a plus for me.

OK, Obsidian you defeat me!
Krios replied to bronzepoem's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I fully expect to see more incentives put up as we count down to the end. Money will be more in focus; the motivation to get it will be bigger, clearer, and more obvious. And that is okay by me, this is from the start a fundraiser. Which I see as a good thing since I have donated, I will be enjoying the incentives. This is the first PE game. You only to get to do the first game once, so I expect Obsidian to go all out to gather enough resources and make it a phenomenon. -
The further up the tiers you go, the greater the leap and you get exclusive mostly vanity rewards. I see it as the lower tiers are targeted to people looking to buy the game early, and the higher tiers are designed more as fundraisers. If you are someone looking to donate, then the higher tiers will appeal. If you are looking to play the game early and do not mind paying the 'day one' price, then you will be better served sticking to the lower tiers. The tiers are in my opinion not designed to be compared against each other.

I am excited to get my first glimpse of the Obsidian Studios office and see the game being made. Seeing that they are promising an all day stream, I am guessing we get to follow the developers through their entire work day. Do you think the video stream will give us different views from various places around the Obsidian offices or will it be the view from a fixed location? What do you want to see appear in the video stream?

Here's to that nostalgia fix, that it be like aged wine which tastes better!

Yes Obsidian will win fans if they officially supported modes to allow for disabilities. I remember Legend of Grimrock getting a mention because of that. PE is not just for us fans, it is for all the fans. I am wondering though how much control we can get seeing that it is a combination of real time with pause. I would think a one handed person will have to click pretty fast to pause and then click again to unpause, unlike many who will likely use the mouse for one function and the keyboard for another function.

I do not want to see Obsidian 'devaluing' the tiers. I paid more mainly for two reasons: I want to support them to the max of allowance, and well I want the good stuff. If the good stuff starts appearing at the lower tiers, there is this nagging voice saying I am over spending. It is like I can spend less and still support them and get what I had wanted. These days the dollars and cents count. I know I am donating but that does not shut off that nagging voice.
