Dialogue & Stealth
Badmojo replied to Chippy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yes thats one of the games that handle it that way. Its annoying... very annoying. Ugh, not just dragon age, but just about any modern game. I about lost it during deus ex:HR, I created a stealth character and go steatlh through the whole mission, Then as I get near the 'boss' area, it switches to a cutscene and I am 'forced' to confront them into a firefight. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Far from the biggest complaing (ending anyone?), oh, and I cannot forget the first confrontation where I could let the character go and save the hostage or take him down, but at the cost of him shooting the hostage. No matter if you decide to take a chance and shoot him point blank range in THE FACE before he shoots, the scene is scripted. I hate games like that, give us non violent options like stealth, dialog, or other solutions besides going into a dumb fighting brawl. -
Drugs could really add a lot. Some scenerios. A parent is worried about her daughter who she says has been acting weird since she fell in with a bad crowd. Things have been going missing in the home, investigating reveals that the daughter is hooked on drugs. She has been stealing and on top of that, she is close to becoming a prostitute to feed her addiction. Backtracking you find out the drug dealer, if you confront him/her, and is suprised that the dealer calmly, politely and reasonably explains that he does not force anybody to take drugs, he mearly offers them service, that they could leave any time. The world sucks and he offers them an escape from this miserable existance, is that so wrong? They can stop any time. The dealer points out that removing the dealer will not FIX the problem, and all it will do is create a vacum that someone else who isn't as polite will simply take over. The dealer is sorry about the girls predicament, but that is her choice and not his problem. So, here are a few possible outcomes - - Take the dealer to prison, which the dealer can bribe the gaurd/judge to get free - take the dealer to prison, prevent the dealer from bribing anybody and having a fair trial - get the dealer addicted to his own drugs or another drug to make them your thrall - Kill the dealer and open a community group to help the addicts - kill the dealer and take over the operation, possibly expanding into other areas like weapon selling, prostitution ring, slavery - make a deal with the dealer to only focus on a certain group (rich, military, nobles, poor...etc) that serve your interests - convince the girl to give up drugs and work off at a job what she has stolen - agree that the girl has free will and its her choice, walk away - encourage the girl to keep taking drugs, find her selling herself one day, then dead a few days later - encourage the girl to keep taking drugs, find her selling herself (offer to protect her...being her pimp), start a prostitution ring - kill the drug dealer, set things in motion so the girl and parents work together to be the new dealers - kill everybody or capture and sell everybody to slavery for the lulz - etc Drugs can be used, say you get someone like the captain of the military addicted to drugs and now you have a basic minion who will do what you say. Someone drugs history can be used in blackmail ..etc There should be the usual drugs like we have in the real world, but there should be magical/supernatural drugs Examples : Ghost - this drug allows a person to astal project their minds without training, the downside is that the body becomes frail/sickly/weak Speed - Increases speed tremendously, think like the flash, health/man regeneration happens much faster. The trade off is that you age faster during the affect, when the affect ends you have a penalty in speed for a few days. Take it too much and you will be a frail old person really fast/possible death. obsession - mistakenly called the love drug, this insideus potion works by using sympathetic magic, a piece of the person (hair, skin, nail..etc DNA) is put into the potion, a character who wants the person drinks the drug. Soon the victim finds themselves drawn to the potion drinker and become obsessed with them. However, many fools did not know what they bargained for. Many men thought of using it as a quick way to get into a womans bed, finds themselves with a knife in the heart because they looked at another woman, a person who is infatuated with a person takes the drug, only to find themselves tied to a chair with his legs chopped off so they can be their together forever, a charlentan uses the drug to win the heart of a noble lady, then kills her for her wealth and title...and is shocked that death is not enough to stop her and she comes back as a undead to be with her 'love'...etc. Bliss - this is a magical drug used by slavers/masters on slaves, it creates a sense of false happiness and is very addictive. Those who take the drug after long use will do anything to get it back. Etc...

The new announcement talked about PE expansions, which I have mixed feelings about. I am very happy it is an expansion and NOT some silly DLC. However I do have some fears. Fears - The main game will be short. I want them to release a LONG game like the old games were, I really do not want a short game like todays games. If they are planning for sequels, they may want to feel the need to shorten the main game to hurry up and start on its expansion. - To be continued/cliffhanger ending - I want the first game to be a COMPLETE game, whatever story its going for, I want it wrapped up in the first game with no major arcs to be left over for expansions or sequels. The next games/expansions should be its own story, that may or may not have some connection to the main story, but the ending of the first game should feel like an actual ending and not have the dreaded 'to be continuted' feeling that so many companies do to try and force you to buy the later games to get the complete story. - Cut Content, the bane of games in this DLC generation, a bit related to the cliffhanger ending. Stuff that was obvious cut from games to be sold later in expansions. Bioware has been the worst with it since EA bought them out. Major important plot points like the shadow broker, or an important characters like the prometheon to be cut out and sold later. Since PE will not have any DLC (as far as I know) and is going to be expansions, that is good. However, I do not want some major threads to not be answered in the first game, only to be anwsered in the second. Some minor ones are OK, and giving some more information about an event is fine too as long as it was answered in the first game. - All roads lead to rome, related to cliffhanger endings, I want major branching outcomes/endings based on what I do in the game, not all leading into the same ending with minor cosmetic differences (looking at you bioware). On a related note, I would like the endings to be expanded on a little more than what is usually done in games. In most games, you go in, spend hours/days/weeks playing, then after defeating the big bad, you might get a few seconds cut scenes, or talk to a few characters, or have a brief anouncement of what happens and then its over. It would be nice to have a endings that last a little longer and go a bit more into details instead of filling like a quick pat on the back and saying 'well done, now get out of here'. I have faith in obsidian, I just wanted to get some minor concerns off my chest, that is all.

I already put money down for wasteland 2 (which most of us here probably have done), I got in on the early bird for $20, I do not really need all the extra swag stuff besides the game. I cannot justify $140 price increase. if there was something just for the game and expansion for say $50, then I could do that. However, its just more economical to buy the expansion later.

Definitely necromancer in some form, although I would figure necromancer should be one of the mages sub classes. I just want them to be cool and do more than raise just mindless skeletons and zombies. Contact/commune with dead, eat souls to use the souls powers/abilities/skills, bring back/summon a slain person to fight for you as an undead thrall with full stats/abilities...etc. I think necromancer should be in regardless considering the whole soul thing. Shapeshifter would be cool also, although how about someone who shapeshifts into a creature whose flesh(heart?) you have eaten? Eating animal non sentient is acceptable, but eating sentient flesh to gain their form/abilities is taboo and hunted down. Perhaps even have a ghoul version that hide what they are by eating the dead and taking on this form. Its a common trope in anime/manga that a monster kills someone and take over their identity, it is surprising it is rarely done in video games. Summoner is always fun, but they should be able to summon any creature/being that appears in the game. Inteligent/powerful creatures might require some form of contract. Summoning demons, beings of power...etc is a must. Enough with just summoning only bears, wolves...etc.

BZZZZZ wrong, this is exactly where you do NOT want to go. Trying to please everybody is a recipe for dissaster. This is what CURRENT companies try to do and it is why so many games are generic and horrible. This is why many games that had a clear demographic were excellent and had a cult following, but then when sequels tried to pander to other groups and changing the formula, it became off putting to the 'CORE' base who ended up leaving because the new games resembled nothing that they loved about the old games. This is why many of us are pouring money into PE and other RPG, we want to move away from trying to bring in everyone and trying not to offend anyone. The majority of people will most likely be (strait) male players who played the original games. Women are playing more games, but lets not pretend its by a huge margin. The few times that companies have done serveys on hardcore games have shown women to be a small minority again and again. It wasn't till ESA released the very misleading numbers that said women make up 45% gamers that feminest started screaming that they games need to cater to them...blah, blah, blah. Ok, step back, look at those numbers, that includes EVERYTHING that has a game attached to it. Facebook games, phone games, xbox arcade...etc. If you strip out all the casual games, then I bet the numbers have not really changed and women are still a minority to hardcore games. Now, RPG's are already a nitch market, finding women who play RPG's in general are a nitch of a nitch by its very nature. There are women who play, they are on this board, I have know many, but its still not that many compared to male gamers. Now, saying we need to cater to a small group for just the potential of bringing in more is just fantasy. The vast majority of women are just not interested in this type of game, nor is catering to them going to see any change (who knows in a few generations, but not THIS one, nor any time soon). There is not going to be an influx of women suddenly buying RPG's, It is just not going to happen. Does it mean we ignore them all together and all other minority groups? Of course not, but it does mean to not compromise for your CORE majority of fans to satisfy a very small minority. Have some stuff that will give a nod here and there as long as it isn't blantant soap box PC propaganda, or takes away things that the core audiance might like. So we go the oposite direction and tell them they cannot show skin, look/act/feminine, and have to pretty much be just a dude...gotcha. Because you are pushing for PC utopian ideology, where as people are run by biology. People like what they like because their nature tells them so. How many parents/religious groups tried to 'convince' gays they are just confused and that they should find the oposite sex attractive? See, it doesn't work, its biology. People like what they like, because that is how people are wired. And yours reeks of white knight syndrome. Aloth is more obvious, but the knight in your signature after the alteration? I will say the boobarmour was a little over the top, BUT, the new armour just sucks away the female identity. Looks like a womans head on a males body, or a guy in drag. Like I said, when we are looking at the sprites, they will now be unisex which is boring. Part of that is just the armour design. Since they went with a new world, they should have gone a little more exotic (moving away from pure midevel/europeon armour) with the armour design, then they could have created a more unique look for male and female. One where women would still be practical, but have a feminine touch. There is nothing wrong with it being practical and attractive.

I would so buy this game! So it will be like every single game out there. I have no problem with gay/bi characters in a game, my problem is that its done in an very unrealistic manner. Bioware is the worst (everybody is bi? *rolls eyes*), but pretty much every recent game has had a "we all get along and look beyond our differences and we only fight because of ideology vision that just happens to not be offensive to anybody in the rreal world". No thank you, I want there to be racism, sexism, discriminations, drug use..etc. I do not want the game to feel 'safe' or feel like its in some bizaro universe where there is nothing wrong except for a few 'token' moments. The problems should exist, if for anything, those who want to be white knights could have the option of trying to change these very things in the games.

Graphics style of Project Eternity
Badmojo replied to anek's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
As for art direction, as long as the game doesn't look cartoony. It is one of my complaints with wasteland and shadowrun (concept art/screenshot). In the case of wasteland its the color pallet and the dispproportion of models, in shadworun it looks like it came from disney/pixar which is not the direction I want to see. Also nothing wow influenced please. -
Interesting interview, just a couple of things Sorry, not going to say you caved to pressure to make some PC in the game...but....yea, you caved to PC pressure. I just hope this isn't a sign that they are going to avoid controversal topics and make the game PC. That would suck, really, really suck. Just a point, if you show pictures of characters and it takes more than a few seconds to tell if its male or famale, you are doing it wrong. This is intersting when you consider what was said here indierpg's And there is nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with making women/men attractive and showing it off. However, its pointless having females in armour if all the armoured characters look the same are unisex and ugly. Ok, got that off my chest. again, on indirpg Are you OUT OF YOUR MIND?!?! What is the number one game everybody brings up? PST! What is the number one game everybody has been requesting/referincing what the game to be like? PST! What is the number one game that has a unique setting and doesn't feel like a rehash of ideas? PST!!!!! You really think PST successor would not get as good as PE? I would say it would probably get even more. If I had to choose between PE and PST spiritual successor, it is a no brainer, I would have gone PSTSS in a heartbeat. I do think PE will be a great game, but I am saddened that it sacrificed a PSTSS to do it.

Since there are gods (this also includes demons, powerful beings..etc), I hope they will be varied and not just the same. What I really do not like is gods that are understandable and petty. Greek gods are the best example, basically they are the worst of humanity put in human form, petty, greedy, jelous, ego centric, rapist, incestous bastards. Not that I do not want NO gods like that, but I hope we have gods that go up and down the spectrum of types. from beyond our understanding, to greek type gods, of gods that are beings of concepts and ideas, to gods that were once mortal and transcended mortality, to alien type bings, to demonic/evil gods, to lovecraftian gods...etc. Also, since there is different (hopefully something N-E-W and not another rehashed ideas of gods we have seen before), the gods/beings should hopefully be really alien/different. I would also like to see a lot of different ways gods came about besides...the gods have always existed, or this god and that god mated and a new god was born. Different types - some gods seem to always have existed, but they defy mortal understanding - the old ones, the first beings that earned the title of gods, incredibly old and the gods fear them (lovecraft being) - A evil wizard finds a ritual that will turn a mortal into a god, it requires sacrificing a 1000 children during an eclipse, the wizard starts to set up war orphanages to help all the children who lost parents to war, and plan to have all the children brought together for a big surprise party on the day of eclipse. - A knight has done the impossible, he/she has slain a GOD! and in an act of madness and adrenaline rush, he/she eats the heart of the fallen god and suddnely feels himself gaining incredible power, before he/she knows it, a new god is created. - A wizard has collected so much power that he has become a god - an item of incredible power imbues its welder with god status Rumors, faith, and belief have power, a hero/villian deads have become legnedary, the stories are that he is invincsible, that nothing can stop him, as the story groes and fame grows, the story changes, he is the son of a god, then later he IS a god...soon the hero/villian finds he can feel power flowing into him from a thousand areas, he can feel the people believing/fearing him, he can do things that were impossible before and now can do with ease. A new god has been born. Another example is the god emporor, in some countries, the emporor is considered more than a man, he is a god. In a world were faith has power, it might become true and the emperor has trully become one with his peoples faith. Perhaps minor beings can gain power, going from small time to incredibly powerful, to godlike being. Say there is a wolf that always gets away from getting cought, its just a wolf, but its nack of getting away seems supernatural. People start believing the wolf is a spirit or being of great power. The wolf suddenly starts getting smarter, understainding mortal words, one day it can even talk which it does to many people. As the rumors grow, the wolf is a beutiful woman who changes into a wolf, the wolf finds it can turn into a mortal woman, the rumor spreads and and grows they believe its a god, one day a the beutiful wolf goddes of the woods is created. Things that do not exist could be created, a schemer opens up a fake religion to trick people into donating. He comes up with some fake god, kloto, god of good luck for friends and dark vengence for enemies. As the faith grows, the collected faith congels and forms a new being that fullfill the role, members find luck seem to follow them and those who hurt them seem to suffer. The schemer is shocked to find the god of his 'fake' religion apearing before him and to cast judgement. Sometimes demons/dark gods are created, a ghost in the cemetary creates all sorts of rumor, if you wish someone dead, write their name on a bone with your blood on it and leave it into the cemetary in a fresh grave. Old smiley will find the person and take them to the grave. The prank suddenly becomes real as people find missing people in fresh graves with bones with their names on it put in. Rumor spreads and twists, if you wish to bring back someone you love, you have to trade a life for a life, take person to the grave, call ole smiley, offer to trade for someone gone. Smiley will trade, but what you get in return might not be exactly what you wanted...then there are concepts, ideas...these are not created through a fixed image, but a subconscious fear, people fear the dark, they fear death...etc, These subconscious ideas have congelled to form many versions of similiar 'gods' of death, darkness. (note, creating a god this way is pretty rare, why it works sometimes and not all the time is unknown) -etc What do gods live off of? - Faith is power, they feed off the faith of their people, good for long term collecting - sacrifices, an extreme power consumption in one gulp per sacrifice. - acts done in their name - feeding off other gods/powerful beings (forbidden) What happens when gods do not feed? - they lose power and become mortal - they fade away - they fall into a deep sleep until they are awakened by an influx of power and/or worshipers worship them again.

Luxury for Evil.
Badmojo replied to kabaliero's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yup, want a lot of variety of differnt types of evil to play. You should not be punished in the game for being evil, there should be consequences, but the whole point of going (selfish anyway) evil is to gain something by any means necessary. At the end of the quest, you should have more wealth, power, connections..etc. Sure, you might have some dead orphans that you used in the sacrifice to the demon lord of a thousand pains to gain power and immortality, however you GAINED POWER AND IMMORTALITY! The price is worth it in your mind, too bad there is a huge reward for your head by the village and some heroes are coming to end your reign of terror....the fools, perhaps you should visit the heroes families and see what other deals you can make. Then there is the political thing where through blackmail, backhand deals, propaganda, you become the mayor of a town where you can pass your own laws, like slavery is legal, anybody in prison is sold into slaver, and you get to decide the laws and those who are breaking them. Lets say you want to play the black widow(er), you find the richest noble in town, she/he is married, you seduce the character into an affair and they are in love with you. You convince (or do it yourself) your 'love' to kill their spouse, so your character and person can get married. After the marriage your significant other has an 'accident' and now you inherited everyting. Everybody is suspiscious, but there is no evidence of foul play. You open an orphange and seek donations, everybody feels sorry for the kids and donate, what they do not know is that you are running a sweat shop and working the kids to death. Similiar, you open a religous order of the divine flame, a female (or male or both) only religious group that is secretive and always accepts lost souls. It is actually a prostituion/slaver ring. Become a mafia like boss, respect and family is important. You go around offering protection money, it would be a shame if something happened to this building. Become a smuggler. Be a mage working on forbidden magic like necromancy, use it to make a profit, offer to bring back the loved one of someone, but they must pay...oh, and it might require a sentiant beings sacrifice if you do not want your loved one to come back...wrong. etc.... -
Adjustable might be a good idea. I do not mind if it takes a *slight* bit of time, but I don't want to feel like I am hardly progressing. Also, since the XP is quest based you cannot grind to level up which I am not sure how I feel about. On one hand it is cool, I liked it in VTMB, but on the other hand, there are times where you run into a foe/boss that is insanely hard and you need to do some quick level up in that situation. However, if it takes too long it will be very off putting and frustrating.

Godslayers?
Badmojo replied to Badmojo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No, I do NOT want atheists in the game, I was just pointing out that the thought popped in my head and it lead to another thought. I was just saying that, it makes sense that in a world of gods, there would be those who resent them and want to see them gone. Look at the historical religions, gods are always screwing with people for their own amusement and purpose. Turning them into monsters, raping them, sending them on quests against their will, killing them for petty reasons. Say you are married and are happy, one of the gods turns your bride into a hag because she looked more attractive than the goddess. Your bride dispairs and kills herself. Wouldn't you want revenge? Wouldn't you seek out others who feel the same? Doesn't it make since that a group would form that hate the gods and their goal is to get rid of them? Like I said, it was just a thought. -
It was in another topic and someone mentioned athiests. I had this vision of athiests trying to prove the gods do not exist to other characters like priests and godtouched. Then I thought, what if a secretive group did not want to prove they did not exist, but were activily TRYING to find ways to kill the gods and free the world from the tyrany (their world view anyway) of the gods meddling with the world. Perhaps they even killed a few gods to prove they are more than just a fringe group. They could be natural enemies to priests/religious groups and it would make sense in the setting.

There's nothing to come clean about, as far as I can see. Well the thing is there was a post on SomethingAwful that vaguely implied that Sawyer may be vouching for something akin to this. Also, Sawyer backed Tropes vs Women, which was an extremely controversial Kickstarter campaign that was created by a very radical feminist group. It's more or less a paranoia sort of thing- people have seen stuff like this happen in the past, and they are worried if it would impact Project Eternity. Apparently, however, there are some individuals from communities that refused or dropped pledges because they feared that this would happen. Pretty much this.

This is the one power that gives me the hibby jibbes, someone could find out your deepest darkest secrets, alter your emotions/memories, can make you do whatever they want and there is little you could do about it. In the x-men comics, I do not how many times xavier or gene grey would read the minds of her companions, or how many times they casually would alter the memreries/emotions of other people. I could never trust someone with power like that. Am I helping them because I want to or they made me want to? Did I really kill the guy or has my memory been altered? How did they know what I did last week? Did someone tell them or did they read my mind? Why do they laugh when they see me, do they know my embarassing secret?!?! Am I in love with her or is my emotions being manipulated by her? etc.... In one comic, some heroes were magically labatomizing a villian, batman cought them in the act and they used their powers to make him forget. He starts to remember later and goes super paranoid, creating a vast computer network to spy on every hero and villian ignoring their privacy and learning their secret identities. Like I said, I could never trust people who could read peoples minds or manipulate memory/emotions.

Wizard class thread
Badmojo replied to NateOwns's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Elemental is probably a given. Necromancer/soul eater - The one I am hoping to see Summoner Temporal/space mage Flesh changer/shapeshifter - (might want to make it also cannabalistic magic, you eat the flesh/blood of a fallen enemy and learn its forms and ability. This is only for animals/creatures/monsters, eating sentiant beings to take their form/abilities is considered forbidden and those who practice it are hunted down.) shadow mage Illusionist Demonologist Although I want to see magic that is not just combat oriented also and can be used outside of battle. -
Things I would like to see: - telekenisis - (highest power and you should be able to explode heads and bodies) - Conversation/mental choices (make them tell you the truth, make them love/lust for you, make them fear you, make them forget something, make them hate somebody/thing, give them false memories make them your mind slave/thrall, etc) - read mind - find out secrets, gain insights - illusion - create illusion monsters, alter yourself to appear as a different person to impersonate someone (like a captain of the gaurds to order them to go someone else), turn invisible, etc - astral projection - project your mind out of your body to spy on someone, scout out the area - dominate/possession - (works with astral projection) take over a body, use to explore, impersonate, fight people without risking your own body. - kamakazi - (works with astral projection/dominate/possession), take over someone, fight(or manually activate kamakazi), then if the body gets killed it explodes in a gory mess hopefully taking out those around them. - past touch - gain information from objects from touching them. - (as long as it does not take away from those wizards who want to be necromancers) talk to spirits, raise the dead, etc

The life of a lich
Badmojo replied to GhoulishVisage's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yea, not just a litch but some sort of undead (and monsters) like vampire, soul eaters, ghouls, zombie..etc I have said in other threads that I hope we have necromancy and can be necromancers, and it is more than just raising skeletons and dumb zombies. I want to summon the spirits of the slain to talk too, I want to reanimate the dead not just as a mindless corpse, but as a undead thrall with its soul bound in its corpse(able to use all abilities/skills it knew in life), forced to serve me as an undead thrall until I release its soul. Not just transforming into a litch, but other undead like vampires, ghouls, zombies...etc. Immortality and power should be a big draw to the dark paths. -
The Monk Class
Badmojo replied to Aedelric's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I kind of agree, all though they are technically different. Perhaps they should have had a holly warrior class and then have knight templar and monks archetyps as sub classes, then have the fighting style (sword weilding fighter, martial arts..etc) as style fighting options. -
I hope selling souls ---- Souls appear to be central to this game --- to the magic, abilities, theme, politics... everything. It's a bit difficult to take the conversation forward on the forums, though, without any steer about what you're thinking about it. So, a very humble request, are you in a position to share a bit more? Thanks MC Whoa, I like the idea of people selling souls.
