  1. So, this has shown Obsidian as pretty weak, rolling over like it did for the first wacko with a complaint. Will they keep doing it with the future complaints that will be coming?
  2. You've got it so backwards it's not even funny. The very best way to paint the target is to engage in childish one-uppery. Obsidian and Firedom responded rather perfectly. The showed responsiveness to the issue but Firedom also got to express his feeling that this was an overreaction to what was intended as a harmless jest, but which unintentionally offended people. The overall effect is an honest effort to keep the peace and nobody can fault Obsidian or Firedom for that. Had they done what you suggest, it would only be throwing gas on the fire. Oh, and what do you call this? Looks like rome is burning as we speak. So what will we do when the next and future complaints come? Bend over for them too?, because they ARE going to come. A lot of backers are very disappointed at this, the whole point of backing the game was to have complete freedom and not worry about games being controlled or censored...and here we are, censoring something because someone got offended about it and bowing down to a group that hate gamers and their culture. Listening to them was a stupid move and a bad sign for obsidian since it shows they will cave under the littlest pressure.
  3. Regardless of why it is changed now. Obsidian now has a huge target on their back for the professionally offended (or whatever you want to call them) after they smell the blood from this. I expect they are going to get a lot more "problematic" complaints coming up in the future because someone is offended by something. Josh should have never answered that tweet (then we wouldn't be in this mess now) and as soon as this happened Obsidian should have told them that the game is a harsh world were stuff like this exist and it no way reflects people who created the game beliefs. Oh, and then flip them off for good measure.
  4. I love POE, but the constant loading screens to go between maps or even different rooms are painful. Especially if you have to go through a lot of them. Do the maps take a lot of resources? Couldn't they have put multiple maps on one load screen so it could switch between them fast and be an instant transition? Not a dev so not sure how hard it would be.
  5. I think the mandatory rest mechanics are one of the worst designs I have ever seen. Do not get me wrong, I understand the logic, but it really breaks up the exploring rhythm when you have to stop and run all the way back to an inn or your keep just to rest. Point out to the problems. Most of this is tied to Wizards spell use limitations. My character is a Wizard, yet here I am boringly auto attacking with my Rod the vast majority of time because I got to save my spells for only boring encounters. Wizards feel very boring honestly because of this. Camp Supply Limitations - It makes ZERO sense why camp supplies are a one use item and can't be reused. I could understand a wear-out mechanic overtime, but not just for one use. Secondly you have an infinite stash that can store anything, but camping supplies which makes no sense. Loading Screen Hell - It is already mind dumbingly painful waiting for screens to load on regular quests/explorations between maps, this just adds even loading...loading....loading... uuuggghhh That one party member gets it every time - Not sure what it is, but when I go into a room, the mobs will always gang up on one party member right at the beginning damage and KO them right at the beginning with enough damage that I have to rest. Not sure why, but they love to focus on my second wizard in the party or my priest. Regular mobs are ok, but mobs filled with spirits (especially when they teleport to locations) are another thing all together. Beds, Beds everywhere, but not one to sleep. - I do not know how many times I have run into an abandoned (or killed the inhabitants/owners) house/camp/etc and seen perfectly good beds sleeping bags just there, or just ask the owners if you did a quest for them if you can sleep there for the night(that would actually be kind of cool)? Like I said, I understand the reasons, but I really really hate the rest mechanic and wish there was something else in its place that did not break up the flow of the game or screw over wizards too much.
  6. And this is exactly why these troll threads are made, to stir up artificial controversy and make people attack each other. Mods should really watch to keep an eye out on the ones repeatedly making these threads and close them down, or at least move them to a separate area since they are just intentional flamebait trying to poison the well.
  7. And if you are a paladin or priest you should get the debuff "not a virgin", which will, if you don't seek forgivness for your sins, turn you into a Blackguard. Also, is this serious? First the rage over a "transphobic" joke, which seems to have died down the last couple of days, or have just been limited to twitter, and now people are upset about prostitutes in a medieval fantasy world? This ALWAYS happens on every gaming (and geek related) sites. The sites gets brigaded by the hate mobs, what ever names you call them. The offended, SJW's, The puritans, etc. They just troll spam the forums with made up controversies and things to be "offended" about.
  8. Hell no, encumbrance is unnecessary tedious work. I do think they need an ingame lore reason why the stash exists though.
  9. I am still very early in the game, will finally have a chance to play it fully tomorrow when I get home from work. So my info might be off. I am kinda with the person who rolled their eyes on this. The way its worded sounds like the same agenda pushing wording I have seen a million times on other gaming sites and related media pushed by certain groups. I have no problem with games including different diverse characters IF IT MAKES SENSE in the setting. However, I am strongly against some sort of divesity quota and definetly do not want it (or any type of forced political correctness) shoehorned in the game setting. If the location and setting is heavily white, that probably means many companions will be, so what? Go to a different part of the world and I suspect the flip will be true and whites humans will be the minority or maybe not even there at all. Again, if the world has nothing but white humans, so what? Again there is nothing wrong with that either. Sorry, getting off my soap box now. Now back to the original question. What I would like to see. - More playable unique races that do not fall into tolkein fantasy. - Make wizards and their powers more interesting. - Make Spells and abilities that you can use outside of combat. (teleporation, phase shift to walk through doors/walls, summon spirit or other entity to communicate with, magic that affects dialog options)..etc. - More stuff to collect, find in locations - Kill the horrible rest mechanic - Something I REALLY woud love to see is a way to create your own custom spells. Something like what was done in Elder Scrolls: oblivion (one of the few rare good things in it). I mean, that is kind of the whole point of wizards, discover and create magic. Restrict its use to wizards of certain level and the materials to cost. Will probably add more after I get a good playthru tomorrow.
  10. So, anybody else just hate the rest mechanic? I am still very early in the game, but I already loath the rest mechanic. Especially with how much my wizard is screwed by it. Sorry, can't do actual wizard things, have to save those up like bottles of water in the desert, just sit back and watch your wizard auto attack..over, and over, and over again with his little scepter and then MAYBE get a chance to go wild on big battles and use up your spells in the blink of an eye. Makes the whole thing feel meh. Maybe wizards get more fun later. So back to resting, you have to waste money getting camping supplies (Why is everything one shot? why don't they have reusable tents?) and if you run out, you have to drag yourself ALL the way back to a hotel. Which is another problem. Ok, so far I have already came across abandoned camps, houses, and other locations with beds/sleeping bags..etc. Why can't I rest here?!?!?! I remember when they mentioned this very early in the game designs on kickstarter and at the time it sounded like a bad idea...so far I am even more convinced its a bad idea. What is the point besides a useless time sink and an unfun task of running back and forth to civilization locations to restock and rest? Still love the game so far, but the resting mechanic is a big negative to me.
  11. I am really early in the game, will not get a chance to really play long until Thursday because of work. However, I agree that wizards kind of suck and not fun to play. It really is stupid that you can use up your wizards spells in a couple of encounters and then have to rest to recharge it, while the other classes can fight away, all the while you can only use your scepter to attack. What spells I have seen has not been very impressive and are made specifically for combat, what I was hoping for was something I can use outside of combat. Magical lockpicking, spells for conversations(truth/compel/etc), Invisibility, summoning Gods/ghosts/entities(to use in battle, or to communicate to gain information or bargain with), teleportation..etc. I am still very early like I said so maybe some of those will be in later. Got these spells and all I am doing mostly with my Wizard is just spamming my crappy scepter shots.
  12. So here is a question to Obsidian. Regardless of their choice, what will they do the next time someone is offended by something? Give in? And the time after that? Give in? Because it will be coming, these groups are never satisfied and if you give in once, they smell blood and come back even harder next time.
  13. Reminds me of David Gaider, a card carrying hardcore SJW who did everything in his power to make the perfect SJW game with Dragon Age 2 and 3. What happened? Of course the SJW attacked him and accused him of hisrepresenting gay characters (which is ironic since he is gay) and other "problematic" issues in the game. I have mad respect for Sawyer, but I really scratch my head at why anybody would align themselves with a group that bullies others that they disagree with (which is pretty much everybody) and openly loathes even those (like game devs) that are on their own side. Seriously, just why?
  14. Not really, all that means is that the IN-GAME character was a racist ****. Again, IN GAME and does not reflect actual beliefs of the creator of the content.
  15. Hi Obsidian, I read some of this at work and just got home. Just want to give my 2 cents. Ok, first of all, the forum is being brigaded by people of both camps, but the SJW side are painfully obvious. New forum threads like "Will there be gay characters? There isn't, then your a homophobe" or soon to show up "Will there be more women, diversity characters?" or "Why is X weak, sexy, attacked..etc?" I have seen this over and over again on many gaming forums, and I remember this showing up at the beginning of the kickstarter. Lets be clear, the vast majority of these people ARE NOT GAMERS. They just go around intentionally finding things to be offended about. If it wasn't this, it would have been something else they would have been "problamatic" with pillars. I was waiting for this to happen honestly, every single big release game has gone through this. Giving in to them DOES NOT WORK. They just smell blood and demand more and more from you until you stop making games for your actual audiance and instead make games for this group that (AGAIN) ARE NOT GAMERS. Trust me, as a person who backed the game and a long time gamer. I do not want Obsidian or any dev to be censored or feel they a have to self censor to make safe games to try and please the lowest common denominator. I want them to make kickass games that push the envelope! I know that is why I backed you guys and isn't that why you went to kickstarter in the first place? To make the game YOU want without the restrictions in place by traditional publishers? Do not try and be safe or not offend anybody. That will never work and only hurts you and your fans. Make games that push the envelop, your fans and fans of CRPG's will reward praise you for it! Give the proffessional offended SJW's the finger, they are NOT your fans, and they will not buy your games. Your true fans support you and are the ones that have bought your games and have always supported you from the good times to the bad times. Keep your soul and your sanity, make great games, do not compromise yourself.
  16. I have been gone for what? A month or two and people are still arguing about this? That is just sad on so many levels.
  17. Oh, I do not want the broken unbalanced system of elder scrolls, I was just mentioning it because its the only game I can think of that allowed you to create your own unique spells and items. However, I would love to have some kind of way to forge our own spells/magic that is unique to the creator. We know that tomes are involved somehow, it would be cool to create our own tomes of X with our own uniquely created spells/abilities.
  18. I just think it would be cool and it would allow people to create their own unique spells/items that they can all geek out too and post online. I mean, you see all this cool stuff about this or that cool spell or item and think, I wish I could do something like that in a game. Like create the one ring like sauron in lord of the rings, or how about being the one person who succedded in actually created an immortality drink, or accidently create a horrible failure that turns your character into a new type of monster that gives you immortality and power, but you feed of the blood and souls of people to do it. Or create a unique spell that rips out the souls of your enemies to feed your power while simultanously summoning fire elementals to possess the bodies of the souless husks now on fire attacking other near by enemies. Perhaps a spell to both dominate and fore those to tell the truth. you know, cool stuff.
  19. Its probably too late for P.E. but maybe PE2. Something cool that was in the elder scrolls before skyrim was the ability to make custom magic spells and magical artifacts. Combining different spells and creating a unique spell. Its something I wish other games would implement, it was fun to make all these crazy spells and artifacts of doom. The only limitations was the cost to make and the mana needed to use it. So you could create a rain draining fireball spell that could raze a city, while sucking up the lifeforce and feed all the dying life energy too you, but it would cost about a small kingdom, and you would need the mana power of a god to use it. Stuff like that would be cool. Especially for wizard type characters. Its annoying that in most settings, the wizard is supposed to be the one seeking lore and also the scientist type, experimenting, trying and creating new spells, learning secrets of the universe..etc. However, they never get to do that in games, they always end up being nothing but another type of soldier throwing boring fireballs at enemies and collecting other peoples work instead of creating their own. Hope P.E. is different.
  20. I actually hope some characters are a bit overpowered. Having everything balance out kind of takes some of the fun out, especially when a character is something called GODlike, I would expect it to be a powerhouse, it should have a weakness obviously, and not something insanely rare like superman kryptonite, but it still should be a being nobody wants to mess with. On a side note, I notice all the female characters that have been shown lately are kind of covered up. I can understand armour reasons, however I do not expect every female character to be like this, nor should they. I really hope this is not a over reaction to all the drek posts all over the internet we had a few months ago. There should be variety of characters. Ok, off soapbox. Still, the art is nice.
  21. One gripe in the video is the resting to use certain skills, we might as well call it mandatory resting since its the only way to heal except from some very rare healing items/abilities. Honestly I would prefer cooldowns to resting just so we can keep the momentum going. I suspect this is just an escuse to have some ingame event like having dream visions from gods/souls, or use it to move time forward or something. Otherwise I cannot see the point of forcing rest on the characters. These videos are nice, but I would like to learn more about the world and its beings itself, a little lore video would be nice.
  22. I like this one. If not a portrait, then perhaps a small screen shot of the surroundings. I have a similar issue with names; my brain is mathematical in nature and works better with symbols or images. Yea, a screenshot would work also. Although, isn't there going to be portraits used for each character? Or was that just for PC characters? If its for every (important) NPC, then it could probably just use those. It would make things a lot easier. It bugs me when I read a journal entry about a character you met previously, but can't place. I will be like "Who the hell was that again?". Like I said, I just really liked the journal setup in the visual novel and it just seems such an improvement over most other in game journals, which seem a clunky mess in most cases. Edit: Oh, and most RPG games, all NPC's seem to carry journal/diaries for some reason that characters can pick up from corpses or find hidden in a room or on the character. So it fits that the PC would have one as well.
  23. Seems kind of silly that the game will have slaves, but worry about offending anybody with sexism.
  24. Looks good, although the only gripe I really have is that, while this is a new universe, we are still using medieval European inspiration for buildings/clothing. Was hoping for something a bit more unique/original. Maybe some eastern influence or something. Perhaps some other group in the game is different. Like I said, very minor nitpicking, otherwise I like what I see and the writing was very entertaining.
