True, I should have been more specific about the rangers: we don't know if their magic stuff will be derivative of the druid's or more unique to their class. As far as I know. -

Given that clerics in PE are more similar to D&D paladins, I wouldn't really rely on that old comparison. We don't even know if rangers are spellcasters in this game, do we? -
I think that that was quite intentional, given For what it's worth, I vaguely recall reading an interview with Chris Avellone saying that he's done all that he really wanted to do with that character.

This right here is an important thing. It is a thing that I hate, and a big part of the reason I brought up New Vegas on the first page. The idea that opposed actions action can bring you back to neutrality is a weakness in a lot of reputation/morality systems. Saving an orphanage then burning a box of puppies does not make you "neutral", it makes you a giant **** who has done some good. Helping faction A then hurting faction A doesn't make them ambivalent towards you, it makes them wonder what the **** your deal is. New Vegas got that bit right. You save an NCR train from getting blown up then murder one of their patrols, and they'll consider you a wildcard, not neutral. Even Mass Effect, for all that its paragon/renegade stuff was horrible - spoiler alert: pretty damn horrible - completely separated paragon and renegade points and only allowed values to increase (though there was a lot of dumb hidden stuff in ME2 because, again, the paragon/renegade system was pretty damn horrible).

... even then, dudes should be trying to put as much weight on to their hips as possible for carrying heavy loads over long periods of time, especially when they're active with their arms. We may be better suited to it by nature, but hauling around 50 pounds entirely on your shoulders for hours on end is still a dumb thing to do if you can distribute the weight better. ... And never bend at the back when picking up heavy objects! Safety first, everyone!

And another thing I hated about D&D: Armor Class. Not necessarily that having a better AC gave you more survivability, but that they decided to abstract something so simple so much. Having a better AC makes you harder to hit, and doesn't even help if you get hit. One could argue AC represents the armor totally redirecting the blow, but that doesn't change the fact that wearing plate is still going to absorb a lot of damage, even if it fails to deflect blows. And that's also ignoring the fact that leather and chain armor were easier to move in, making it easier to dodge. A better way to do it (at least off the top of my head and without refining the concept at all) would've been to have damage absorption and damage deflection/avoidance values, with plate having the highest absorption and good deflection/avoidance, and chain and leather having less absorption but roughly the same, if not higher, avoidance/deflection. But I digress. I actually modded this in BG2. Armors had damage reduction values. In plate, you'd get hit a lot (no AC bonus) , but a lot of the attacks would fail to do any damage. Light armor, you wouldnt' get hit a lot (it too had damage reduction, but it was tiny), but when you did get hit, it hurt. That said, plate would offer the most protection and the highest deflection of any armor. But avoidance is a function of dodging, hence character. Plate makes it a more difficult to dodge, but not by much really. Interestingly enough chainmail was more uncomfortable to fight in, as all the weight fell to the shoulders. Wait... you made the Full Plate and Packing Steel mod?

Last I heard, PE doesn't have dialogue-centric skills, strictly speaking. They haven't said so, but I wouldn't be surprised if they followed the "PC is always the 'dedicated talker'; companions speak only during scripted interjections" model.

Well, it doesn't directly answer any of your questions, but there's this: Now, like I said, that doesn't really address what you asked, but you can infer from that that any potential animal companion will have more to it than those in D&D-based RPGs in terms of out-of-combat interaction. No dude, I think he was saying "don't try it because it can't be done accurately for a game like this (which is okay in the end because if it was done accurately it would be really lame)". It's a pretty minor thing for me, but ultimately I agree with the OP. Although I think he mixed up Project Eternity with Torment at one point in his post.
