I reckon it should be called Obsidian something, to link it in with the Order somewhat and the Black Isle stuff. Obsidian Harlot? Obsidian Bead? Funnily enough in a larp one of my friends has named his ship the Rampaging Sea Bitch.

I dunno, trying to maximize the amount of happiness that results from your actions sure sounds like a workable practical definition of "good" to me, but I guess it doesn't really count unless you also make your own life miserable in the process? "Good" doesn't have to be stupid. Someone who isn't willing to make the sacrifice and still wants to be considered virtuous would say that, yes. By your definition, someone who sees the suffering of people infected with a deadly illness, rushes in to help them to the best of his ability, then gets infected and promptly dies in a few months is a "better" person than someone who actually puts in the time and effort to devise an effective way to help those people, invents a cure, and saves countless lives without getting himself killed in the process. If your goal is to explicitly portray good as stupid and ultimately self-destructive, I guess that can work as an artistic statement, but otherwise it's no less cartoonish than the currently prevalent portrayal of evil as "someone who is rude to people and occasionally kicks a puppy for no good reason". Yep, its the "Chaotic-Stupid/Lawful-Stupid" trap people often fall into. Both are incorrect even by the alignment system's limited view and leads to puppykicking and paladins stabbing people for being rude.

Obsids already did that in Neverwinter Nights 2. Though I'm not sure if it was merely a RP addition or had actual impact somewhere. I'd like to give my character a surname / last name. That also was in NWN2. Yep, that was what gave me the idea! Though yeah, I don't recall it having any actual impact i dialogue or elsewhere other than for clerics and the like, where I think certain prestige classes required certain gods (though taking the prestige class changed your god to the appropriate one anyway). Surname would also be awesome, just those little touches add to the experience!

Gore - Gibbing
FlintlockJazz replied to gibonez's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Witcher 3 mutilations. Of course, with the isometric view it will be harder to see such things, but it gives them the opportunity to have the head fly up and hit the 'inside' of the monitor screen. -
Yes, Dwarf companions are a must! I fully endorse this campaign, but then I think there is a LOT more that needs to be done for the stumpy peoples! The portraits are a big issue for me: not only are there only two of them for males and three for females, but they are very traditional dwarves. Now, nothing wrong with traditional, but considering that dwarves are supposedly a major part of the Vailian Republics there needs to be stylistically specific dwarves also, such dwarf with tricorn, or dwarf with nautical goatee. How can I make Pirate Dwarf without appropriate picture! Considering the very specific-ness of it too and the lack of dwarf artwork in general it is very hard to find custom portraits to suit. It is the same issue I have with the Pale Elves: not only are there only a handful of them, but not one of them feature the very specific main power of Pale Elves, the ability to grow beards! And considering the very specific appearance of Pale Elves as an Obsidian take on it, again finding custom portraits is downright impossible! Now, I know most people play humans apparently, but then when the only decent portraits are for humans what choice are you giving people? It is a self-fulfilling prophecy! Get it together Obs and give us some Stumpy Love!

Solo vs Party
FlintlockJazz replied to Stef's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
*Suddenly, the Obsidian Pearl bursts into the thread, its mighty prow cutting through the sea of posts, while its Captain, the indomitable Jazz, Bringer of Tea, stands with one foot upon its bow, pointing the way with one arm held aloft holding a cutlass, the other holding a pistol, yet another cutlass held betwixt his teeth, and a brace of pistols holstered across his might chest, vengeance gleaming in his eye as he sets his deadlights upon the OP* Yarrr!!! Pull her around lads and give that OP a full volley of iron to his face and then keelhaul the scallywag! On the topic on hand, me and the lads think nay! Nay we say! Ye might want to leave yer mates at home and be Billy No-Mates when yer set blades with yer nemesis, but I have the lads wit' me fer a reason: so we can stand together, and fill them with lead from twenty paces and then cut down with cold steel what is left! Now, where be the rum??! -

Hey guys, you do realise that relationship doesn't necessarily mean romance and... *Realises logic will not stop them* *Turns to the men* Batten down the hatches! Reef the mainsail! Secure the rigging! And get those guns loaded! *Looks off to the horizon* For the Promancers are coming... -
I'd like the existing ones to be expanded upon rather than increasing the number available. And before anyone says "Why not both?" they can only spend so much time and I am talking about my preference if they have to choose, they are restricting the number of companions in order to better flesh them out after all.

The BEST 3 RPGs you have ever played
FlintlockJazz replied to IamNOOB's topic in Computer and Console
In no particular order, since I tend to like most of them for vastly different reasons and because my favourite changes with the moon: Pillars of Eternity Witcher 3 Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines Alpha Protocol Final Fantasy 7 (with 9 being a close second, not played 15 yet so won't comment, oh and I do NOT include the spin offs for 7 there like Advent Children or Crisis Core, I feel they actually detracted from and missed the enjoyment of 7) Baldur's Gate used to be up there but its been knocked out by Pillars, yes I consider Pillars to actually be a better game than BG even with the nostalgia factor. -

Arrr thar be only one romance this here game be having: the love between a man and his ship! Exotic, erotic love that can only be truly expressed by mounting the wooden lady and gettin' splinters all over a man's sword! -
Kana's family was FROM the Deadfire Archipelago, but they had moved to Rauatai before he was born. As of Pillars 1 they all lived in Rauatai, not the Deadfires. Not to say they couldn't turn up, but it would be no more likely than for Eder's family to turn up I think (Eder's family returned to Aedyr I believe according to the short story).

This regarding Tyranny. I'm sorry, it has a good story and everything, but I literally stopped at your trial with Tunon, despite being near the end, because I just could not put up with the combat anymore. Clicking through all the lit up icons and then starting at the beginning again is not tactical, you could probably get a bot to do it.
