Oh, another thing I noticed, Power Source sound similar in theme and intent as in GURPS. In that you can apply a Source modifier to Powers such as Biological, Psionic, Magical, etc which apply features to make that Power more appropriate to its source and there are Power Talents that affect how good your character is with those Powers of a certain source (most of this is introduced in GURPS Powers sourcebook).

Of course people are going to have issues with a new system for the first time. Any new system will. They can now either stick to a system that we have had experience with and should have less issues now with getting to grips with or they can introduce ANOTHER system that will just cause confusion again from the beginning.

Oh no! I like the Health/Endurance system! It rocks! Along with engagement, they seem to be considering getting rid off all the stuff I liked about the mechanics of PoE the most. :'(

I'm gonna pin the blame for the grouchyness of this post on me being poorly, but those heavy armours look rubbish. Their repulsiveness is what drove me to wear light armour in Skyrim. I'm sorry, but the plate armour in PoE is actually rather distinctive compared to those... 'things'. I'm gonna go get some lemsip now.

This. Maybe the illness I got at the moment is making me grouchy but I'm kinda like if you feel 'forced' to play the first game again because its not 'just right' then maybe you don't like the game in the first place, plus with the option to choose all the options with a new character then I don't see why they can't just do that if its so important. Gender, race, and class should stay the same, since you can multiclass you can add another class that you want anyway. As to appearance, beards can shaven and hair grown long, and the faces were just a choice of presets anyway. I really, really don't like the idea given of the character reincarnating into a new body. I'm sorry, but I really don't like that, it sounds incredibly contrived and I feel that if they are going that far then they may as well ditch the Watcher from the first game entirely and instead have you play a whole new character and have the import feature just bring over the choices you made in the previous game.

Honey, it's the Realms. One scroll of resurrection and two good nights sleep and you are as good as new. My eyes got even better since the last time. No offence, but you could use it too. Oooh right, you can't, because you-*gets killed again. Comes back three hours later and grins happy.* "Thank you, every time I looked into the mirror, that cleft clip killed me a little!" Unless you are married to Jaheira, in which case she won't let anyone even try to raise you so that she can then go romance the latest Bhaalspawn, because raisons....

I like that multi-classing is limited to two classes rather than the dipping in half a dozen classes and racial Favoured Class headaches of D&D. I also find it interesting that they have made Eder's base classes as Fighter and Rogue, as I recall during development they started him off as a Rogue I believe only to flip-flop between the two before finally settling on Fighter. Guess they weren't ever comfortable with the class they assigned themselves, sounds like me when I'm trying to choose a class for a concept.

Cooldowns does not work well I think in a party-based game, see my earlier post on this (still enjoying Tyranny but that's in spite of the mechanics listed in my earlier post), but for a TL;DR version: it is hard to keep track of cooldowns of individual skills of multiple characters, having to constantly switch between characters to see which skills have become available again. It also leads to MMO-style behaviour of just triggering off a sequence of abilities, which is exacerbated by having multiple characters because it is the only way to manage them, rather than getting into the actual tactical play of party-management.

As I said in another thread, respecs to be done by Animancers as it fits with the lore and allows for amusing scenes of characters being shoved in cages and electrocuted (okay, maybe not amusing but more dark and terrifying). And shall we make this the unofficial official "what we want" thread and try and all post in here since it has an appropriate title for it?

Simple solution to that: The user who contriuted the most money to the cause will get to design the ship... Cunning, evil but cunning! Wind up with users contributing more money than needed to buy their own ship, and still not winning. That's a really good idea. It would be an interesting sidequest to discover the fate of the Obsidian Pirates' ship. The ship disappeared years ago, and it's time to unravel the mistery: was it because of a monster of the Deadfire arcipelago? Is the ship really gone? What was the fate of all those pirates? And the main question is: How are these disappeared pirates connected to the mysterious Obsidian Order? Ooo! I like that quest idea! Yeah, lets do that!

There is one thing I hope they do this time. While I was initially against respecs in the game during development, once I played the game and saw the degree of choices you make with levelling up and the lack of knowledge of users of the system (unlike D&D which many people had prior experience of via tabletop), I reluctantly came to the realisation that it was needed and, most importantly for me, fit within the lore of the game when it came to respecing class abilities especially due to the soul thing the game had going. It just needs one refinement: make respecs occur via Animancers. You could treat it as going to your local Animancer for a tune-up, redirecting soul flows and being electrocuted in cages to forget abilities and learn new ones! Maybe even allow for buffs or debuffs due to the skill of the animancer doing the tune-up, incompetent animancers apply temporary debuffs as your character is traumatised by the procedure while competent ones actually make you feel good for a time! Just a thought.

Actually, a ship's crew log containing everyone's name and rank could work. Or rather, make them the Ship's Articles that every pirate was required to sign when joining a crew (was a Pirate's Code they were all obliged to follow and defined how plunder was divided etc). People get to choose or create their own rank, in a similar vein to how the Obsidian Order allowed them to choose their forum title, so for instance Jazz, Ship's Rabbit. Doesn't even have to be a pirate ship in game, could be a document the player can find left lying in a tavern or maybe on a shipwreck they can find, so we don't actually have to 'buy' the pirate ship reward and removes the need for us to work out who gets to design it all.
