  1. I'll use it on subsequent playthroughs with the hardcore difficulty settings cranked up (path of iron or whatever it's called, etc.). Chances are I'm going to need every advantage I can get, and it's kind of fun to experiment with trying to field an "optimal" party within the framework of the game's play mechanics. On my first or second (and maybe third?) playthrough I'm going to want to explore the story and get to know the characters that MCA and Ziets are going to be cooking up and I don't want to miss out on that stuff because I'm building my min-max army.
  2. This is why I think it would be fun to have a really nefarious secret society of scribes -- sort of like a mix between the free masons and Cosa Nostra -- a group that has methodically and ruthlessly eradicated any person who might even be close to stumbling onto the invention of a press.
  3. Assuming that Unity handles pathfinding, collision detection and mass animations in an efficient manner then I'm all for people walking around town, milking cows, plowing fields, playing cards, etc.
  4. I'm all for varying physical or faction rewards (and even penalties) for achieving an objective in a different way, but the experience award should be the same.
  5. I don't really care one way or the other, but it might be an interesting thing to have companions that require a certain amount of "upkeep" while they are in your employ? A certain amount of gold, or a certain cut of all treasure gets lopped off as a percentage at the time of discovery. This would remove the need to pay somebody off when you part ways, as they are no longer the responsibility of the main character at that point.
  6. LOL Mooorc.o.c.k is a dirty word now? Damn, that's just sad.
  7. I always liked Michael Moor****'s take on the fey
  8. I hope we have a "newb" hunting ground too ...
  9. In an action/grinding/loot oriented game sure, why not? In a story based game (like Torment for example) I don't get it.
  10. It's the game designers job to build the box and it's my job to stretch my arms out and discover the limits of that box. But in order to be a game and not a interactive sandbox there have to designed boudaries and play mechanics.
  11. All of this ink spilled ... for a game where our characters will be two inches tall on the screen ... bravo ladies and gents
  12. Go replay Arcanum, Fallout, Baldur's Gate ... you know, go be a "gamer"
  13. Like others I'm perfectly fine with a slight delay so long as the flow of information with the community is transperant. Stable and as bug free as possible is 1000x more important to me than hitting some arbitrary release date target. I love Obsidian's games, but they really need to stick the landing on this thing.
  14. I think justin has some chops so I'd be happy to see what he could do with a full score. All I know is that I want something subdued, haunting, deeply tonal - something that highlights the importance of souls, which seem to be so central to the game.
  15. I just had an idea (apologies if this was mentioned in the previous 7 pages or the thread preceding this one). But I think I'd like to see stamina penalties for wearing heavy armor for extended periods of time. I know this isn't going to be an arms and armor simulator, but I always found the idea of people sleeping in full-plate or trudging countless miles in the stuff a little bit silly. I don't know how this could be implemented fairly, so people don't cry that their heavy armor wearing paladin is being cheated, but it would be kind of cool to see a somewhat realistic treatment of full-plate armor in a game from a mechanics perspective.
  16. The easiest thing I can imagine is a bird of some sort: falcon, parrot (yarr matey!), etc. Something that can fly away at the first hint of danger, so you can come up with a plausible reason for it surviving huge (sometimes magical) battles as a non-combatant.
  17. Maybe that comes up from being the offspring of one parent from one region and a parent of another region (same species)? As for inter-species marriage, I always thought it was a little goofy.
  18. Ah, finally an universe where different species have incompatible DNA. Thank god for that.
  19. Actually in reference Hideo's post above, Sawyer said they were probably going to go with something closer to BG2 ... which isn't a ton different than BG1, except for certain areas being part of an act and being closed off until you got past whatever choke point existed in the story. When I think about it, I guess I don't really have a preference for either type of map. And it mostly comes down to how plot driven a game is.
  20. Somebody is letting their imagination run wild. The truth is we have no idea how the Cipher class will work in game. I highly doubt they will be true mind-readers ... or at least they won't be right off the bat.
