Oh, hey, I'm totally with you on this. I was making my point based on my prefessional judgment as an international security scholar. But at a personal level, I'm completely with you (though destruction by alien species invasion would be more fun, and I'd get to witness first contact in my lifetime which would be very cool). I too am extremely disillusioned by the human species. It's why my retirement dream is to buy a large horse ranch in northern Wyoming so I can sit on my porch with a cooler of beer and a faithful dog, and have a front row seat to twilight's last gleaming. Should be a great show.3 points

I may do that soon, however I intend to watch 2-4 Ken Russel movies today to see if they can drive me insane.2 points

The issue of this statement is, that most probably, we wiped out Neanderthals as well, like thousands of other species2 points

The downside of getting old I guess... when I was young, the constant, imminent end of the worlds was a concern. Now... meh, big loss if humanity wipes itself out. A failed evolutionary branch similar to the Neanderthals?2 points

majestic just meant that I might be replying to Wormerine's Fallout 3 video, hence why I suddenly brought up Fallout 3 in my previous post. (e): I see I got a new KP signature quote. Turns out AI bots are good for something, I suppose.1 point

A big name when I was a teenager in the early 80's... didn't include the obvious I love rock'n'roll because it's usually the only thing most people associate with Joan Jett (and she and her band did release quite a few albums)1 point

Fire Emblem: Engage Honesty I'd probably rank this in the lowest tier of FE games I've played, right next to Fates. It's just off-putting to me in a way that the good encounter design can't really compensate for, and like Fates it was a rare instance of me losing momentum and taking weeks long breaks or abandoning a FE playthrough outright. It's all the worse coming from 3 Houses, which for all it's faults delivered a consistently better experience throughout the game....even with the fishing bull****. @Gorth I was in the middle of jumping in the convo when you removed the filthy robot and @Bartimaeus sending it to hell. How naughty Anyways no new hbomberguy thing is out.1 point

I think people far too often forget or overlook the nuclear dimension in these discussions, simply closing their minds to the possibility of nuclear weapons use because it is just too terrifying for their minds to contemplate and thereby assuming that surely no one would actually use them. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news to those people, but I very strongly believe the actual use of nukes will be part of a global war in the coming years.1 point

Flynn: Son of Crimson https://i.imgur.com/kBHDeno.png Arcadia Fallen For some reason, the dialogue log occasionally shows incorrect options. It is mostly funny and I would not have noticed it playing normally. https://i.imgur.com/WXcGT2y.png https://i.imgur.com/25H7G9d.png Finished the side quest about the forest restoration. I think these are all the options for the final "battle". I had one less on the first playthrough. Not sure what are the conditions for the 2nd one to be available.1 point

For a bit of balance, there were a few places where I thought Rowling fell down when it came to planning and related matters, all towards the end of the series. The revelation of horcruxes seemed to be rather... not exactly abrupt, but it kind of needed more fleshing out earlier so that you don't just get a big expositionary sequence from Slughorn. It was clearly planned, but the execution was not great. Similarly and worse while the Deathly Hallows were introduced individually early on their significance mostly seemed to be a way to drive the plot of the book (movie). If someone told me that Rowling had picked them semi randomly because she was having difficulty getting people where she wanted them to be organically I'd have certainly believed that, with the possible exception of the wand (and even then the 'rule' its significance relied on was ?new? to DH? very iirc).1 point

@Bartimaeus From what I remember, and this was a long while ago, JKR had a board outlining the whole story fairly early on. Here is an example of it: This tells me that she is very much an architect instead of a gardener (outliner instead of a discovery writer). Now she could very well be somewhere in the middle (although the internet says she is very much on the architect side of things), where she outlines plot points, but does discovery writing of how the characters get there, but this still wouldn't affect the main character archetypes in the story, as those are usually closely tied to the plot.1 point

Its interesting how the entire Russian military offensive around Kharkiv has stalled and now looks like its reversed in certain areas There was lots of exaggeration about the success of that campaign and the reasons for it but I do remember Ukraine openly acknowledging they had to make strategic retreats in several areas because they lacked the military equipment. But that was before the US $60 billion had been approved or arrived The US aid to Ukraine is critical to them being able to stop the Russian offensive. Before the invasion I use to think Russia had an effective and well trained military but I dont think that anymore after the last 3 years of warfare The Russians can effectively use cannon-fodder and meat-grinder tactics but even that has its limits1 point

Unfortunately, New Vegas is there to show that there can be a decent RPG build using FO3 structure and tools. Not that FO3 is without any merit - it just isn’t quite there. Both in content quality and system design. PS. Anyway Fallout3 is Garbage and Here is Why1 point

Unfortunately I need a pickup for my job and there isn't a good electric option for that is affordable for me or available in my area, so I'm stuck in a 2018 Colorado. It sucks paying for gas and an electric would be better for many options, but I don't want to cause a fire with a Cybertruck. To boot the Cybertruck is definitely the most hideous vehicle I have ever seen and breaks down doing normal truck stuff.0 points

Ah, nonetheless I am disappointed because hbomberguy is good listening. I do not remember playing Fallout 3 but I assume it is a lot like interacting with bots on social media, navigating a wasteland filled with pale imitations of humans spouting drivel that would be a surface level conversation between two real people but without any soul to it. At least you can just shoot them in Fallout 3, too bad playing Bethesda game makes me want to shoot myself. You're not wrong. I've said this before but the dystopia of robots isn't Terminator (Jimmy Cameron was wrong again) but being flooded with bull**** like "I like car games vroom vroom" to the point where actual contact with human beings is few and far between because navigating the bots is too much effort. Given the amount of energy bots take and where that energy comes from, the reality of burning down the planet to allow **** to use spam bots for scams is more horrifying than the machines just wiping is out. But that line was pretty funny.0 points

Well, those branching story paths in those games are usually always fake for the most of it. The effects they have on the actual gameplay almost always is marignal or just not existent. Pick your path, and then you'll later get either a letter, a mail, or a phone message in good or bad variation. At best you'll meet that character again for 10 seconds and that's it. Not really blaming the developers that much, since we know that those story permutations quickly get super expensive... but still... it's starting to get very formulaic and lazy, imo. /Edit: I was surprised to see actual tiddies in LiS2, though. Shame they didn't had the balls to also show some... balls, heh.0 points
