With Carrie Patel now confirming that Avowed can be played switching between first and third person at will, and how the art-style and world look in the latest trailer, I am loving Avowed. And this extended gameplay trailer for Dragon Age 4 looks fantastic as well to me. It looks very much closer to Origin than Inquisition, and I like both the way the gameplay is working and the art-style. I'm so happy to have big, amazing RPGs back again without stupid turn-based combat. BG3 can kiss my brown ass. Avowed and DA4 both look awesome. And now with my new computer up and running, I can play them! Oh happy day!!2 points

Well, I guess as to Origins, you could interpret characters bathing in over the top amounts of blood (and body fluid in general) as kind of a comedy rather than any darkness too. Also, Fallen Aces is gonna be 9.99$ at launch on Friday! Are these guys in to get ripped? Indie gaming is shaping up nicely to be the next triple-A fun... now as to immsimish games as well, finally.1 point

Ah, yes, performance leaks and performance expectations are wonderful things. AMD expected RDNA3 to outperform Ada Lovelace. The rumor mill expected a 40% IPC increase with Zen 5. Leaks said Intel is going to up the core count on the 14th gen i5s. Intel thought Meteor Lake would be able to outperform Raptor Lake. There were leaks once about how Battlemage was going to have 512MB of L2 cache. Karzak once expected that Temple of Elemental Evil is going to make people forget about Baldur's Gate 2. You can guess thrice which one of those turned out to be true.1 point

It was darker than what Bioware did up to this point. I suppose it depends what your context was when it was released. In Game of Thrones world, I suppose it is rather tame, but if ones reference was Lord of the Rings and previous Bioware game, than Origins was rather edgy (though, preceded by Witcher1).1 point

18 hours into Skald. It's pretty good. The mechanics are clearly D&D inspired, but different enough to be interesting, and not complex enough to weigh down too much. The game has stuff like eating, resting and crafting, but does all these more fluidly than games like the new Pathfinder RPGs, so they don't feel tiring. There's some rough edges to the mechanics, but overall it's decent. Somehow, the creator also managed to mesh the writing really well with the retro look. The game has a clear atmosphere to it and doesn't feel too generic or too weird to comprehend. It won't be the best RPG I ever played, but I found it to be worth the price.1 point

I just finished Ravenloft Strahds Possession after 45 hours, it was fun and I love the whole Ravenloft setting. The last 5 games I have played are all Gold Box games that include EOB1-3, Dungeon Hack and Ravenloft so Im going to have a break from these types of games now I preferred the EOB games to Ravenloft or rather EOB 1 is still my favourite game of the 5 I have played. But Ravenloft had a better narrative and a good " open world design" around navigating maps , I did find it had some frustrating design mechanics like no way to restore level draining and then Treants that spawn in one map so you end up using lots of save scumming But its still worth playing, 58/100 on the " BruceVC game rating system" I have now decided Im going to play Fallout 3 again but this time Im going to use mods and I have installed numerous performance fixes, gameplay and graphic mods. But Im using Vortex as my mod manager but I also have Mod Organizer 2, I just have never used MO2 before So if FO3 starts to crash or is unreasonably unstable then Im going to switch to MO2. I will have to reinstall all my mods again but thats fine because at least I will learn how MO2 works1 point

Yeah, watched it earler today. Definitely makes me more hopeful than the trailer. Skill tree looks anemic, but we will see how it will play. I didn't analyse systems much, but I do like that they remind me of PoEs, at least on a surface level. Keeping my fingers crossed. For those who cared, it seems third person will be an option (though while they show a bit of it, it the video still mostly uses 1st person - I would guess that the 3rd person still needs some work).1 point

Looks more like previous Bioware games than the trailer. Like DA:I and the later Mass Effects. Combat looks like what I'd expect when they said it's more into the ME direction from DA:I. Not sure which of the action the PC is taking is something triggered by the player, what is the consequence of some enemy action. The city depicted, Minrathos, certainly seems more high-magic than anything in previous DAs, but I guess that's true to lore. Certainly left me a more positive impression than the trailer.1 point

Considering it allegedly started as 4 player coop one could say it is getting scaled up. Playing devils advocate, Disco Elysium had one companion and it was great. We knew since last reveal that Avowed will not allow for certain expected behaviours (like not taking on companions) so unusually small roster doesn’t surprise me. What I am waiting to hear is: „what’s the upside?”.1 point

@Azdeus remember my joke above about the two female Primarchs?... turns out I wasn't the first “You brothers-such a nest of rivalries. I warned him to make you sisters, that it would make things more civilized. He thought I was joking, I wasn't." - Malcador (from one of the HH novels, 'Scars', by Chris Wraight)1 point

Not playing Guild Wars 2 so much these days, but I think I might have taken some screenshots from when the previous expansion came out (the "Cantha" continent). Being no expert in Asian aesthetics, I suspect it's very much Korean inspired (the parent company of ArenaNet being South Korean)... it's not competing with state of the art FPS single player games, but I think for an MMO, the visuals are actually pretty decent1 point

No they don't care because it's Africa. Surprising amount of people think the entire continent is like Congo circa 20001 point

They should just follow the established naming convention: Switch Swiitch Swiiitch etc.1 point

I'm in the position where I wish it was bad, it's so generic that I remember next to nothing about the gameplay a day later. I remember that the player is some kind of ninja doing superhero flick stuff and is being guided by a depressed middle-aged alcoholic dwarf to fight an uncanny looking albino twink elf, but there's just nothing specific that is interesting to recall. Maybe superhero fatigue has spilled over onto videogames that ape that kind of maximalist action spectacle.0 points

It looks plain bad to me. Don't know who their audience is for this and which player base are they hoping to catch with the Dragon Age name.0 points

I know this is just a gag thread, but having done some cyber security courses for my job, the vendor had a video covering a study that says goatse, 'rickrolling' and other famous meme link gags - has not improved cybersecurity awareness across the world's population. Surprised me.0 points

While I think Super Nintendo Switch is the best name and something that'd bank on the popularity of the Switch and nostalgia, I think Nintendo doing something very left field like Switchcube would be pretty funny.0 points
