  1. 40k is great tabletop wargaming fodder. nevertheless, have always been ambivalent 'bout rpg 40k and our personal experience with role-play groups don't help. https://www.warhammer-community.com/2021/11/19/the-imperium-is-driven-by-hate-warhammer-is-not/ "The Imperium of Man stands as a cautionary tale of what could happen should the very worst of Humanity’s lust for power and extreme, unyielding xenophobia set in. Like so many aspects of Warhammer 40,000, the Imperium of Man is satirical." one would think the satire would be so obvious no mention were required, but... on the positive side, a 40k Crpg does not suffer same hurdles as does a group o' real persons. is more difficult than it sounds to do over-the-top and exaggerated save in limited doses. the 40k audience is 'posed to be aware o' subtilties and nuance o' the setting but the 40k characters are grimdark cartoony and in a rp for 40k, the players is the characters. will always be players who see 40k different, or try and make it different 'cause who can do extreme all the time week after week after week? a Crpg is not the same as a rp group 'cause is the computer doing the work o' being immune to self-reflection. the mythic stuff in wotr were owlcat original content and not created by paizo. from a writing pov, we disliked the mythic content. the exaggeration o' mythic characters and encounters were lacking any kinda subtlety or nuance and for a considerable period o' time we were conflicted as to whether the material were intended as parody. "to the extreme." is funny... in 2023. were always funny for Gromnir. in 1990 vanilla ice were a chart topper and not 'cause people saw as a joke. over-the-top were the selling point. sure, were arguable unintended parody, but the success o' vanilla ice and to the extreme were not 'cause it were embraced as a weird al yankovic kinda thing. owlcat does not do subtle or nuance and they embrace exaggeration... to the extreme. regardless o' Gromnir personal preferences, the fans o' owlcat liked the wotr mythic content and wotr storytelling in general. maybe ain't the way Gromnir would do it, but am thinking owlcat is a good choice for 40k 'cause they will do extreme and over-the-top. for a few 40k fans an owlcat rogue trader will likely be dismissed as insulting parody. will also be a few purists who will be revile rogue trader 'cause owlcat misinterpreted some integral aspect(s) o' 40k lore. however, am betting most fans will dismiss the lore concerns as minutiae and based on wotr, am thinking owlcat fans want more over-the-top as 'posed to less. 40k allows owlcat to go even more extreme than wotr, more extreme than ice ice baby. HA! Good Fun!

  2. Pored over my account and realized that I managed to spend a stupid amount on eating out and having food delivered this month. Eh, a little indulgence every now and then isn't going to kill me. Edit: No update on the car situation yet. Insurance companies aren't the quickest and all, especially when it comes to payouts. Nothing new there.

  3. @thelee points this out in his gamefaqs guide but in general action economy is a big reason why if you are going to multiclass a character you should make sure the synergies are worth the sacrifice of doing two classes. For instance I ran a Ranger/Priest recently. It was fun but I would not call it optimal. The extra accuracy helped my spells a bit and the pet added some dps but I don't feel like the benefits there were worth losing PL 8/9 spells. On the other hand, in the past I ran a Berathian/Helwalker multiclass that focused on melee and some offensive magic and that was a lot of fun and felt synergistic. The key there was doing what @Boeroer mentioned above and bringing another Priest along. If I had to use my Berath/Helwalker character to do all the buffing then I wouldn't have been meleeing or casting offensive spells as much as I would like to. So instead, I brought Xoti or Vatnir along frequently to do that. That freed me up to play that character more like a gish and get in there and melee and occasionally toss a nice offensive spell out. And that was fun and effective and felt worth the tradeoff of losing spells. I also think it's important to not get too habit driven when doing combat in this game. It's easy (for me at least) to fall into a trap where I approach every fight by casting certain buffs and then attacking. Sometimes it's actually more efficient to skip the buffs if I don't need the extra accuracy or if I need to CC or otherwise attack certain enemies in a hurry. One example of that is the fight against those burning enemies in Beast of Winter in Eothas' realm where you get ambushed after speaking to Waidwen. I like to get onto those archers and CC or get in their face ASAP because when they spam confounding blind on my party and snipe me I feel like party members go down rapidly. So if I spent some time just sitting there grouped up buffing I feel like my party would die. Instead, I get on the enemies asap to disrupt what they're doing to me. Yet on a lot of other fights I might just unstealth Eder and keep the rest of my party stealthed while I get buffs up. So it depends. And of course, sometimes you don't even need those buffs either if it's a trash encounter or what not. It can be more efficient/fast then to just get to bashing immediately instead of wasting time buffing.

  4. Milestone number 5 May 27, 16:30 – Today, after 1 and half year long break from the game, I have finally decided to finish off the requisites for Torpedo Buster achievement in GOG copy of Rebel Galaxy, which was the last missing achievement to 100% the game. It took me only about half hour to shoot down last 180 torpedoes, so I am now kind of wondering, why I have not finished it long time ago .

  5. I have been playing it on and off (mostly off) since it released. I think I am on the 4th protagonist now. The game isn't terrific, but I can't help but be fond of it. I heard WW was initially meant to be more procedural than handcrafted, which explains a lot of generated content. I enjoyed my first protagonist well enough, but I feel game gets stale quickly. There really isn't much reason to interact with sandbox, and combat is a bit too hecktic to take advantage of each character's unique abilities. I try to vary upmy playthrough, but too often I default to what seems to work the best. It's a messy title, but I find it very pleasant to play every once in a while. I am probably on a verge of jumping back and doing another storyline. edit:

  7. the fact that they have 'them' argue in front of you the second time you meet her and it's literally just the same voice back to back arguing against itself and then jeanette 'disappears' in a room without any other entrances/exits besides the one you're already standing in surely does not help conceal the mystery a lot of the voiced dialogue is...I mean, quite clumsy and ungood (that introductory cutscene was a real "holy crap, just what am I playing here" moment), but in such a way that is now largely amusing and charming to me, so I think I've come to terms with it and it's fine

  8. Well, I'm not someone who needs compelling gameplay to stick with a game, heck, I really enjoyed Planescape: Torment, for instance, a game I cannot blame anyone for not liking because the game part of it is terrible, but there was nothing that appealed to me in Bloodlines. I did not like the characters, and while I really like the setting, I did not care for either the plot or playing a vampire. It also probably did not help that Jeanette...

  9. The RX 7600 reference models apparently cannot be used with some of the 6+2 PCI-E cables. They can still be plugged in enough to work, but not fully. Yeah, they'll probably not burn off like not properly pluged in 12VHPWR cables, but it is something to keep in mind if someone would want to buy one. Not sure why anyone would want that, though - the 6650 XT is clearly better in price/performance, and getting a decent deal on a 6700 (XT) will last a good while longer.

  10. Why PS5? Just buy on PC instead. (it's not PS5 exclusive) I'm really interested in this, since MGS3 is awesome. But I'm scared of what they will do with it without Kojima around. /Edit: Also I can't unsee that angry bandana.

  12. I started up Outer Worlds again, thanks to Tim Cain and his youtube videos. I went for a supernova playthrough at first. I love the need to actually consume the food and drink. In my first time, it all just kind of stacked up and I used very little of it, but this made me pay attention. I don't like the lack of saving though. Pavarti gets killed a lot, and I feel like I end up having to re-do too much stuff. I think I'll just restart in normal or hard. It's been awhile since I played it, so it feels pretty fresh, but I don't want to burn out in the first area.

  13. Double posting here, but I got absolutely clobbered by the werewolf in the diner like five times before I realized yeah, okay, I just don't think I can fight this guy right now. Not that I really wanted to, because there's (currently) no reason to fight him in the first place, but he just straight up Wolverines me. Doesn't help that my combat stats are absolute trash, since I keep putting all my points into...well, non-combat stuff. It's a 'final death' speedrun trying to kill that guy, though.

  14. how 'bout germany o' 2023? anybody recall why there ain't no kids in the original fallout game? just as were the case in 1997 and 1998, is laws in germany which prohibit depictions o' sexual acts or violence involving kids. more than a few o' the books which parents is trying to ban in desantis' florida would never have been published in germany. and 'course books which involve holocaust denial or show nazis get a different standard than does other books. child pr0n is illegal in the US, but not in the way many understand the term. as children is inherent victimized in the creation o' child pr0n, and minors cannot genuine consent to be actors, models or whatever, there is a specific exception for kid pr0n. 'course if is no living child involved in the creation o' the pr0n, then is no triggering o' child pr0n exception. much o' what is happening in florida and texas is already de rigeur in europe where schools do not necessarily "ban" books, but they do not purchase or display controversial works. and again, more than a couple o' the books routine at issue in the US wouldn't be published in most euro countries. as such, florida and texas is actual sliding towards european norms. 'course the new war on wokeness from the right is, well, new... or maybe old. trying to ban books about rosa parks or roberto clemente? if the daughters of the confederacy is made uncomfortable by a book, then is possible to ban? crt? the thing is... https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2023/05/23/lgbtq-book-ban-challengers/ "The majority of the 1,000-plus book challenges analyzed by The Post were filed by just 11 people. "Each of these people brought 10 or more challenges against books in their school district; one man filed 92 challenges. Together, these serial filers constituted 6 percent of all book challengers — but were responsible for 60 percent of all filings." also, is all kinda reasons to be disturbed by the chart, but much o' the content the clowns in florida, texas, indiana, idaho and a a number o' other states is stuff routine proscribed by enlightened euros. unfortunate, much o' the new war on wokeness is very familiar and even commonplace. as @Hurlshotobserves, US book banning is not new and the vast majority o' the books current being proscribed is the same kinda books which has been at issue for many decades, which isn't an excuse btw. fact that local US religious leaders and school districts has been trying to ban huckleberry finn since it were first published is not reassuring and so not ok. even so, has been a long time since the book banning thing in the US was other than a local issue; governors and front runner Presidential candidates for a major party running on a platform endorsing book banning is kinda 19th century and way outside the personal experience o' just about anybody living. even so, the current issue is maybe not quite as described or portrayed by the media. HOWEVER, particular given how the gop has made the war on wokeism a core platform issue, and how easily a significant % o' the population were stoopified by the CRT nonsense, prophesying dystopian book burning nightmares is looking less hyperbolic and unreasonable by the day. yeah, maybe the current reality in virtual all the US ain't worse than what is routine in germany, but the fact you got a significant % o' people in the US cheering the war on wokeism is disturbing. HA! Good Fun!

  15. the action economy is looser in higher difficulties, because enemies will have higher defenses and health so you'll have more time to do stuff. but yes, even then there's still action economy concerns. adding on to something boeroer said, for this reason i generally stay away from most generic caster/caster multiclasses. really early on, the extra casting on a caster/caster can be a life saver, but by mid-game you just have so many spells and so little time, and if you made one caster double up on two roles you could be in an extreme pinch trying to decide between healing or debuffing, for example. Exceptions to that rule are generally setups where you can avoid action economy clashes. I've done a few wizard/caster multiclasses, and the wizard side focuses on fast-cast (near-instant) buffs and only occasionally other spells. this limits how much action economy constraints i have while still giving me the benefits of having add'l casting pool. psion/caster is another favorite multiclass, because with a psion you naturally have phases where you're not doing anything with the cipher because you're generating focus.

  16. Yes, absolutely. For example: just because of better action economy I sometimes think really hard about bringing two priests - so that I can get out a party-wide PER inspiration and Devotions for the Faithful (or any buff really) in less than half the time. Also why I like to have Priest and Druid in the same party and not use a Priest/Druid. Casting Devotions at the same time as Moonwell at the start of battle is way better than doing it one after the other. Class builds are often "self contained" so they can do some synergistic things one their own, which is cool - but in terms of action economy it's almost always better to achieve that synergy with different party members. That's also why good solo chars aren't necessarily very good in parties compared to a well composed party - an vice versa.

  17. I'll wait and see what the verdict is on the writing... I stopped playing 40k a long time ago, but the lore and the characters in the universe still interests me very much (hence why I play Kill Team and Horus Heresy). I always wished for a WH40k "genuine" crpg, but the trailers shows little of the quality of the writing (or lack of) and character personalities so far

  18. It is much more interesting to me than running as an Aragorn-knockoff and slaughtering orcs in Shadow games. Gollum is an interesting character with a unique skill. With a strong vision and direction it could make for an interesting, narrative experience. Not an easy sell, even if pulled well, that’s for sure.

  19. Thanks for the responses guys. Afterall , i think i will go with Evoker. I don't really care much about the most effective/optimal or most op way to play the game, i like to use "flashy" spells and abilities that look good and have my character kind of be the star of the show and Evoker seem to be the best option for that. Thanks for all the input

  20. i'm inclined to very slightly disagree when it comes to single-class. it's undoubtable that blood mage is consistently powerful especially early game, but the game is not so difficult (that is, when talking about party mode + potd + challenges, a whole other story if you do solo or something) that you need the resource regen. In the end I've personally gotten much more bullish on empowering high-level spells + the empower passives. If the entire fight is already over as soon as it starts, you don't really need blood sacrifice edit - just to emphasize that this is only a consideration for single-class. multiclass don't get the really juicy high-level spells, or enough skill points to spare on all the empower passives.

  23. Momodora: Reverie under the Moonlight Replayed the game to defeat the bosses without taking damage and in the process I discovered several "surprising" things: 1- It's a lot easier than I expected. There are even some bosses that can be defeated by crouching in the corner or mostly staying right in front of them. 2- It'd have been even easier with the active items that I thought had limited charges but actually recharge every time you hit a save bell. It took me almost two playthroughs to find this out. Using these items at will would make the game ridiculously easy, though, so no real problem about that. 3- The items you get by defeating the bosses unharmed were all familiar to me, so I probably bought them in a shop later on when playing for the first time. The one exception seems to be the Heavy Arrows, which are pretty useful, btw. 4- I somehow defeated the last boss without taking damage the first time, because I had already gotten the achievement for the true ending.
