First look on Eisenhorn: Xenos (Warning: TotalBiscuit):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cw-HQWjkoj0

Apparently, not good. I can't say I didn't expect that, but I was holding out hope as I kinda loved the books (so much in fact that I'm still inclined to purchase the game, but ... I'll probably grab Battlefleet Gothic: Armada instead.) Bugger.

That doesn't look good at all.

What the hell is going on with that combat gameplay. They should have made it turn based and with a top down camera, imo. Probably would have looked a lot better this way.

/Edit: Oh god, that door opening...

/Edit2: I wouldn't want to play this game, because I fear it will ruin the books. Everytime you'll go back to the books, you will connect it with images from that game turd.

Why does Games Workshop do such a bad job licensing 40k?

No kidding. So far only Relic have done a good job with it.

It seems like there's no quality checking at all, they'll allow literally anyone willing to pay the fee to use their license, which is why we wind up with 8 bajillion Warhammer video games, 5% of which aren't complete garbage.

BioWare would license that for ten games, slap a poorly design combat rule-set on it and their fanboys would call it an innovative RPG.

Don't forget clumsily shoehorned gender politics.  That would be good for at least 4 or 5 Polygon articles masturbating all over the game. ok-hand-smiley-emoticon.gif

If it will be anything like other Paradox grand strategies it will have a broken or non-existent or woefully inadequate tutorial, have a brutal learning curve, and be totally worth it if you can get past said learning curve.

And, if EU4 is any indication, then later be ruined by an overabundance of expansions being released that add new gameplay mechanics and also replace old ones that used to work just fine, some of which sound nice in theory but end up not working particularly all that well together with every other harebrained feature they decide stuff into the game throughout all ten of their expansions being released - and they keep doing this so much so until the game can barely be recognized as what it was upon release (...and also, they won't give you much of a choice whether you want the majority of those features, even if you don't actually bother to buy the expansions!). The end result, of course, being that some of us will end up no longer liking the game nearly as much as we used to. Harumph!

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.

Same problem with Crusader Kings2.. They need to learn to let go, almost a unique problem in the industry.

They should have stopped with Sons of Abraham with CK2.  IMHO, that was when that game hit its peak.  Hilarious scenarios like you having a son that's essentially the anti-Christ be born and that son manipulating his way into becoming the leader of the Catholic church became possible with that expansion.  After than, the expansions didn't add that much, not anything I really wanted, anyway, while also messing with core mechanics I would rather have seen left alone.

I'm the odd man out because I love the too many content and mechanic packs for CK2

yeah same here, best was that one which added personal focus, love it

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

I liked the concept of it, but I had to turn it off after a couple of games because of the STI epidemic and and random barons imprisoning emperors for absolutely no reason. Typical Paradox really, sounds like someone came up with a neat concept ....then they gave the intern one day to implement it. I say this because those mechanics have no interaction whatsoever with the established systems the game has, they are for all intents and purposes standalone.

Well to be fair it works well enough for Black Library - vast majority of those books are crap, but then some of them stick. One might say it cheapens the universe but GW seems to be doing a well enough job of that themselves lately.

I haven't really run into any issues but I dunno if it's just luck, patches, mods or the right combo of all three

Damn, can't stop thinking of this transport fever trailer. On one side I am very certain it will have exactly the same issues as train fever, but on the other side it looks exactly the kind of game I want to play. But if they are unable to provide better rail/road placement, terrain morphing and an economy where you need trains with more than but two waggons, it's just not going to be a fun experience for me.
