Journalism and Bias in the Gaming Industry

Guess who is going to have a speech about "cyber-violence" at the U.N. on september 24th? I am going to let you google that yourself.

This is the world we live in now. These are the values celebrated. These are the heroes of our time.

I tried to find it but failed. Just tell us.

"Good thing I don't heal my characters or they'd be really hurt." Is not something I should ever be thinking.

Sarkeesian and Quinn, labeled as "Cyber Violence Survivors" as if that were a thing. I don't like online harassment but pretty much everyone on the internet is a cyber violence survivor if that were actually something.

"Cyber Violence".

They are not talking about getting teabagged in CoD are they?

Ok... You know how when you watch a movie about the future and they've got some deliberately ridiculous concept there cause it's the future and look how alien it is? Like "pre-crime" or "sense offenders" (Equilibrium). We are there now.

Granted, the whole "That a game like this can come out in 2015 is ridiculous. It's brazenly, unapologetically sexist. [rabble rabble rabble]" shtick is as boring as it is predictable from these journos.

On the other hand, I think the youtuber is being pedantic in also slamming the article for calling a spade a spade and informing readers that this is a game about boobs. I looked up a few seconds of Let's Play footage of said game, and the mini-cutscenes where clothing is torn away as HPs are lost, are pretty lewd and gratuitous.

It's not wrong for a reviewer to drive home that point; it's just the sanctimonious social justice finger-wagging and "-ism" dropping that inevitably follows, which is a nuisance.

Yep, and the flaming hasn't worked out well for Sarkeesian and Quinn. Hah.

Ah well. Wonder what the net will look like in 20 years.

everyone and everything has a bias, especially a journalist who has to write lengthy reports

The fact that the OP pointed out that nepotism should be ostracized, and in pointing that out he didnt give much attention to other forms of favoritism and bias, reveals that the OP and others have a bias towards one particular form of bias and/or video game thus this article of bias became popular.

The paradox is that the person pointing out someone's bias is often the one with the bias, or at least he is the one pretending he does not have them, or avoids them.

Instead, we should all just accept people have biases and it makes the gaming community a harmonious world. Someone might sleep with a journalist, but someone else might simply pay off more, or be more famous, or just happen to have went to the same university as the journalist. There are millions of factors as to why each and every journalist has a bias to each and every video game. Therefore, we should not care

In twenty years time they'll have moved on to whatever is new in society and be wagging their fingers at and demonising some other group, same thing as happened with novels, rock and roll music, video nasties, rap music and so on and so forth. The self appointed moral arbiters of our time always lose, they are always forgotten and their causes never last more than a few years at most. Mary Whitehouse today, gone tomorrow thankfully.

Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.

I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin.

There will be secret lists of sites that will be banned but not disclosed due to national security reasons. Anonymous posting will only exist on usenet and the chans, all of which will be raided on regular basis due to take down notices according to hate speech laws. All other sites will have profiles linked to social network ID's, which in turn have to screened for validity via requiring real ID to register by law. Law enforcement will also have superuser access with their profiles and monitor discussions both passively and actively.

"Cyber Violence"

I suppose the United Nations is a fitting place for the speech, though, as the UN is famous for a lot of talking and very little doing, and the very little doing they do is largely completely ineffective at accomplishing anything.

Good. I'm glad we're ignoring Turkey collaborating with an organization that sees keeping women as sex slaves to be a religious duty to focus on the pressing issue of rich women having **** talked about them on the internet. Or the US assassinations with drones and spying on people without warrants. Or the incoming shift of power to corporate with the TPP and TTIP.

I think I understand Stalin now.

Because Amerika is the only country that sees things in black and white. LMFAO

As usual an excellent speech by Obama....Volo I assume you feel guilty about all the criticisms you have had towards Obama?

And yet now he is agreeing with the general GG sentiment about free speech and people not being silenced at places like Universities

Remember that University where they wanted to create " safe places " and " safe rooms "  for students who " might get upset by what Christina  Sommers was going to say" ....it was pathetic

So Eron Gjoni is free of Zoe Quinn's gag order.

Now regardless of what you think about his choices to vent his and Zoe's dirty laundry in public here is something from the case:

"Back when I filed my appeal and served the plaintiff with my Statement of Issues on Appeal, she responded by trying to take out a back-up order in a new state. She plainly listed my appeal of the MA order as one of the reasons she was requesting a new order.

The just-fill-out-this-form-and-we'll-give-you-an-ex-parte order granted by that state was even more restrictive than the Massachusetts order, but only for about two days, until my attorney intervened and the judge agreed there were serious first amendment issues with the original wording, and modified the order to something more reasonable until the hearing.

Over the next couple of weeks, the plaintiff argued that the order should be granted because she has Google Alerts set up to monitor my online activity, which means if I reference her anywhere online, that therefore constitutes contacting her."

And this is why you simply can't allow these people to define what harassment is or what to do about it.
