Walsingham Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 geez, its worse than i expected :/ it certainly is heavilly focused on action (at least the trailers are), but i hope there will be some roleplay elements in it. so far it looks more like RAGE +dog than Fallout Yeah I expected it to be actiony, but they still dont get the humor at all. Nuke launcher, Teddy bear launcher all that **** again. They will never learn Written requirements, man. I'd bet £200 on finding the words "quirky humor" in the top level design document for this game. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.
kirottu Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 I'm psyched they added the Real Time Settler mod to the base game. Bethesda u dun gud. This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.
Rosveen Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 At least the male-only protagonist rumour was debunked. Though now I see claims that it was genuine but that the backlash may have led to a change of heart. I'm pretty sure they didn't record 12k lines for the female protagonist in a week.
Rosbjerg Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 It's just Fallout 3 again, except they're obviously listening and observing their playerbase by adding features from mods - which is great (I know a lot of companies would just write it off then and rely even more on modders)... It would be even greater if they also knew how to actually write an awesome story of course. But this looks like a solid foundation for a future expansion made by a company who knows how to tell a story. 2 Fortune favors the bald.
Aoyagi Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Wow, what a disaster. Directed cinematic 4-option dialogues with a voiced protagonist? Absolutely disgusting. Obsidian, please, if you get to do another "in-between" Fallout, try to avoid this rubbish. Unless, of course, the community here likes this limiting Mass Effect-esque dialogue. 2
Oerwinde Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 I'm psyched they added the Real Time Settler mod to the base game. Bethesda u dun gud. Yeah, everything works the same as RTS, only not nearly as buggy and with a lot more style. RTS was probably my favorite mod for FO3/NV so I'm happy thats in. The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity.

Unless, of course, the community here likes this limiting Mass Effect-esque dialogue. even if they have a shot at in between Fallout in the West/Central USA, they will need to keep the features of the Fallout 4, unless it will have **** sales and be considered not a good game... Based on how Skyrim sold I doubt Fallout 4 will do poorly... so expect the dialog wheel and no-skill system to stay...
HoonDing Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Obsidian can continue making Russian tank MMOs. 1 The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Zoraptor Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 (edited) Wonder when they will announce that Fallout 4 will support paid mods. Yeah, that is presumably what Bethesdanet or whatever their new steam clone is called is at least partly for. Wow, what a disaster. Directed cinematic 4-option dialogues with a voiced protagonist? Absolutely disgusting. The problem with that dialogue system is minimal compared with the likely quality problem of the writing itself. If the writing is "Have you seen my dad, middle aged guy?" quality again it hardly matters what the dialogue system is, if the writing is good then the system may be a bit limiting, but shouldn't be a major problem. WorstUsernameEver Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Wonder when they will announce that Fallout 4 will support paid mods. It felt like there was a part of the showcase that was devoted to that but had to be axed/repurposed. Decent conference, overall, though it's mostly due to Fallout 4's overwhelmingly positive response. I'm personally more excited for Dishonored 2, though. Curious to know how Emily will play, and how different she'll be from Corvo. 1
Malcador Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 The base constructing does look neat, definitely worth grabbing this when it's cheap. Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra
Sakai Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 What's up with all the Fallout hype? I don't get it, F3 was a pretty mediocre game, so why all the excitement about F4?
Chilloutman Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 What's up with all the Fallout hype? I don't get it, F3 was a pretty mediocre game, so why all the excitement about F4? Medicore for someone who is old enough to play originals. Mindblowing for someone who is playing last 5 years I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"
Nonek Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Meh, nothing really blowing my skirts up, so to speak. Hope that the inventory and everything else is not controlled through the pipboy again, most idiotic, illogical and unintuitive control scheme i've ever seen. Might purchase after a few years with all the dlc, and when mods have rendered the PC version playable. Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin. Tea for the teapot!

Edit: Still can't find any confirmation of whether they'll be using the pipboy to hold your inventory etc, rather than serving as a mapping, status and organisation tool like in the first two games. Azdeus Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 (edited) Written requirements, man. I'd bet £200 on finding the words "quirky humor" in the top level design document for this game. It's been a while since I read this, so I have to paraphrase, but I do seem to remember their examples of quirky humor from Fallout 3; "You chop off the old ladys head and then put it on the counter and talk to it - that's dark humor to me" Anyway, massively dissapointed in what I've seen, gun customization from the Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Mass Effect dialogue wheel - except even MORE limited and a voiced protagonist, ontop of that, no skills. I knew Bethesda would dilute Fallout but this is some homeopathic levels of **** going on. Edited June 15, 2015 by Azdeus Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. HoonDing Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 "no skills" gotta love how quickly unfounded rumours spread. wonder what will be next. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Valmy Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 I did like the homeopathy reference though. A little poetic metaphor never hurt anybody.

Because all through the demo of the pipboy, there are no tabs called skills, and in the showing of their Ubisoft Gunmith ripoff there are references to things such as "Req; Science! rank 2", and reading all the Special texts there are no references to skillpoints on the Intelligence allocation at 3:14. Azdeus Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 yeah thats problem with games which are skill based and turn based moving into FPS game - no point in skills. Yeah, since you've removed player/character separation you might aswell get rid of the playground "cowboy and indians" disconnect aswell. "BANG! You're dead!" "Nu-uh! You missed me!" "No I did'nt, I was aiming straight at you!" etc. I personally did'nt mind it in Vampire Bloodlines or Mass Effect for instance, but alot of friends did hate it. WDeranged Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Fallout 3 was the best Bethesda game since Skynet. I loved those Terminator games way back when 1
WorstUsernameEver Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Must have missed that portion. There is footage of the character using the Pip-boy to equip various layers of armor and browsing through his weapon list. 1
