So, remember when during the Sony press conference at E3 they announced a remastered Grim Fandango for Sony platforms?  Well, Double Fine have now announced that it will be coming home to the Master Race (PC/Mac/Linux) also, simultaneously with the Playstation versions.

Rejoice!

"and that “it is clear to game players that his character and others that are based on real-life figures are fantasy.”

Hahaha. Sure thing, Activision.

So... I suppose Noriega wouldn't have had standing to sue if they had portrayed him as a CIA agent for decades, who would be excused for all wrongdoing, crimes and drug smuggling as long as he had the approval and money flowing the right way. Since portrayal like that has no negative consequences. In fact, Activision might have been able to claim some of Noriega's proceeds, according to Phil Fish legal theory.

Rather than being depicted as a terrorist and a dictator abusing the local population. And, and this is important, that he looks mean and has a mustache, and/or ugly facial features. Which carries implicit death penalties by drone and/or possible military invasion. So, standing to sue, since Noriega has already served a huge prison sentence.

Or(!) - since the CIA involvement never was a subject at his trial, Activision is actually projecting simply the legal truth in the first place and are completely blameless as well as the only real chroniclers of history. Legally.

Yes. Clearly this PR stuff is more complicated than Activision initially believed.

Didn't notice that at all -- Now I feel bad for replacing it with a smaller-sized one.

It has raised "only" $48 million, and offers alien languages as stretch goal in $50 million. But still quite impressive.

Yeah I know but no need to nitpick :)

The point is more around the incredible amount of money that has been raised

EA are discontinuing support for The Sims 2. Normally something like this would be a bad thing, but it's actually just a discontinuation of support for legacy versions, in its place all digital copy owners on Origin are being provided for free the new "Ultimate Collection", which, as the name suggests, is the complete release of every Sims 2 expansion and stuff pack. Considering I only have the digital release of The Sims 2 because they gave that away for free some years ago (around the time Origin launched?), that's a pretty good deal. :p

For those who have only the disc edition, I'm told EA support will register a digital copy for you manually if you provide them with a photo of your CD-key or something along those lines. Skipping the snark this time, good move by them.

And here I was thinking the exact opposite. The skies look like something from Independence War 2 and they don't seem to be able to decide whether they want a muted palette for Euro sensibilities or a dayglo one for the US, per Gothic 4/ Arcania. Oh well, be boring if everyone has the same tastes.

(plus the pedant in me hates 'photorealistic' landscapes that cannot exist, literal uncanny valley...)

Could this be the Messianic Survival Horror as foretold by the ancient prophecy, that would bring it back to the greatness like Silent Hill 2 & 3? One can only hope.

I loved Heather's design in SH3 -- I was implying that Survival Horror has not been great since Team Silent was disbanded.

Team Silent disbanding was a great loss but I did love Homingcoming and think there were more than enough clever and subtle things in the game to prove The Collective were capable of taking the series over. But yeah, the well has been rather dry lately.

In this day and age though how scary are ghosts going to be  to a teenage girl when you can stop them by taking their picture? Surely the ghost is the underdog in that scenario? He can't even sneak up on them without risking selfie oblivion.

What was scary about Silent Hill 2 & 3 wasn't the monsters or gimmicky jump scares -- It almost one of either, come to think of it. What it had and what few games can't do, is atmosphere, the subtleties in its usage of audio, the feeling of being truly, totally, alone, plus the excellent story and narrative, weaved into the background and the environment of Silent Hill 2 was excellent. Not to mention the rather clever puzzles that didn't always rely on adventure game logic, but actually the player's knowledge of litterature or deciphering codes from notes found in the game. That's the kind of survival horror I miss. I felt Homecoming had none of it -- It adhered to cliché American horror tropes, like a forced love interests, and a whacky black-man going "Aw, heeeelll naaaaw" and stupid unavoidable combat -- You'd something like that should be optional in something that terms itself as "survival", right? I hope this Wii game can bring the horror back on track because I doubt Shinji Mikami is going to do that with Evil Within.
