HBO's Game of Thrones

Yeah, I guess even a blind hen can find a bean in a basket on a good day. But it's very simple really, just a question of esthetics and statistics. #1 one bloke doing another bloke isnt a very graceful or stimulating thing to watch #2 the only people who would be interested in it anyway are a clear minority. Thus the logical conclusion is that most of us, in fact, does not want to see it. It's just like people who actually watch golf on television.

Not that there's anything wrong with that

Lots of nice Symbolism in Game of Thrones.

Stag and Dire wolf... Then the skinning of the Stag.

What exactly is the problem, are we feeling outraged on behalf of womanhood or cheated on behalf of male gaydom. Help me out here.

It all smells of pollitically correct bullcrap!

I like my whores filthy! So far I have been pleased.

Another decent episode for me, enjoyed the skinning scene, it was a good way to introduce a character, I suppose they were going for an upper class but gets his hands dirty kind of thing, the lesbian scene was over the top but I can't say I didn't enjoy it, the guy playing Littlefinger was hamming it up a bit too much though.

"OH, EVERYTHING MY DEAR.."

I do like his character, it's just that line killed it for me.

First few mins into the ep. and I'm already  by the skinning of the deer. Was that a real one? Hate to be that guy if so, heh.

I can't believe that made you feel sick... I thought it was an awesome scene!

You a vegan or something.

Veganism is evil.

Nope. Just the sight of blood/bodily parts makes me feel uneasy.

My mother OTOH; loves watching open surgery shows on the discovery channel. Sometimes I wonder if I'm a bastard myself. lol

I skin rabbits now and then, it's like pulling a sock off.

I'd like to try a bigger animal, butchery is quite an interesting skill. Charles Dance looked like he had done some research for that scene.

Monte's rabbit recipe du jour: Saltimbocca.

A Northern Italian delicacy, rub garlic, olive oil, lemon, black pepper and rosemary onto a saddle of rabbit. Pan fry in a little butter. Once browned wrap in parma ham / proscuttio (you can keep it in place with a wooden splint) and put in a hot oven to finish for ten minutes. Serve with roast cubetti potatoes and fresh green vegetables and of course a glass of barolo.

Prago!

Can't stand barolo, no idea why.

Confirm skinning rabbits is incredibly easy. Just be careful when you gut the wee bastards, because the stench is bloody hard to get off your hands.

*shrugs* substitute it for a Chianti or anything French. Except Nikolas Sarkozy, who I imagine tastes unpleasant.

There's something ironic about the guy in the George R.R. Martin-related thread who hasn't read the books being the one who steers the discussion into a tangential food description.

All of the SoIaF books would be measurably thinner if Martin was capable of saying "Then they ate lunch." and actually leaving it there. Those of us who have read the books probably hit Monte's post, thought "another damned roasted rabbit description," and reflexively started skimming to see when the topic went back to the action.

All the animal symbolism stuff is pretty blunt, including the first episode.

If you've not been near the books I don't think it comes across quite in the same manner.

Both of those scenes were unnecessary, but the lesbian one definitely more so.

I wish they would tone down with all the pointless sex scenes, really.

It's HBO. They can show sex (unlike "the networks") and therefore they MUST..."see what we can do that they can't."

I myself don't give a bullhorn @ T&A in a show, male or female, but if they're going to have it, it would be nice if it seemed more natural. I suppose you can say we had to know Littlefinger's chr more but...eh, it was too long and too silly.

I liked, mostly, the way they did nudity/sex in Rome. It felt more like a natural extension of the culture, rather than gratuitous nekkid for sake of "because we can."

I thought the lesbian scene was perfectly normal, as it really helped bring home who Little Finger is and it was nice foreshadowing for the eventual betrayal.

there has been way too much looming at the wall, get on with the undead invasion already.

Don't get your hopes up. 4 books in and it hasn't happened yet.

Personally, I'm outraged on being treated like a child. When I want to watch pornography (and occasionally I do), I'll watch pornography, not HBO. Every time that I see some obviously male-gazed up image in fiction (and Good Lord was that scene ever one), I feel like I'm being treated as some sort of dimwitted cave man who has to be lead around from scene to scene with **** and ass.
I don't post if I don't have anything to say, which I guess makes me better than the rest of your so-called "community." 8)
