I thought China didnt care about Western sanctions and that it would stand by its friend Russia ?

Looks like they did their calculations and start to care a little bit more. Today it was reported in our news, that Lavrov was flying to China, but on the half-way there, his plane suddenly changed his course back to Moscow... Seems like Pooh noticed, how is Putler moving a lot of their armies from Siberia to Ukraine, and starts new round of calculations...

It says 'Putin wants Ukraine to be neutral like Austria'.

But that's what I said earlier...

...is this guy reading my posts?! 😆

Zelenskyi would never accept Austria-like neutrality. That would mean "peaceful-type" of army with almost no offensive capabilities, and that would mean, one more invasion, after Russia recovers, if Putin would be still in charge. This time, with more horrific outcome for Ukrainians. The best deal which I can imagine would be, that they would be neutral with Turkey guarding their skies. Erdogan, as much he is an ass, he is only NATO politician, which has some kind of respect in Moscow.

And in other interesting news:

Moldova wants the Russians gone from Transnistria

Uzbekistan as one of the closest allies to Russia has raised some fingers. Statements like this would be unimaginable few days ago...

Aftermath of the Ukrainian attack on Russian occupied airport near Kherson

Another information from Slovak news:

"Oleksiy Arestovych, an adviser to the head of the office of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, said that the Ukrainian army had destroyed the command post of one of the Russian armies involved in the invasion of Ukraine. The positions came under fire from Ukrainian artillery.

"It is a great military success. It may mean that several generals have died and caused the disorganization and disruption of hostile activities aimed at continuing the military operation," Arestovych said.

The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valery Zaluzhny, said that the headquarters of the 35th Army of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Federation had been destroyed."

Uzbekistan said it doesn't recognize the DPR and LPR (i.e. it doesn't recognize them at this time) but that's not really news. Literally no country except Russia has recognized them, no matter how friendly with Russia they are. Not even Belarus. Kazakhstan's stance, for example, is much opposed to Russia's in this matter. And this is despite Russia sending troops there to help quash a rebellion there two months ago. But this isn't really news either, it's the same as it has been since this begun three weeks ago -- either silence or outright opposition.

Twitter "news" are like anything else from Twitter: crap. But man, it's really starting to make me miss the days when people would post Breitbart "news". I mean, how many dead Russian generals already? 20? 2000? 20 million?

Excellent material here. Thanks for sharing!

I've also been reading a UK Ministry of Defense assesment that the Russians are militarily stalled on all fronts, have not made any progress in several days, and have actually lost ground and suffered huge casualties (now estimated at 7,000 dead). And this is why they are now just resorting to deliberately blasting civilian targets with missiles and artillery. A US Dept of Defense assesment says Russia has now deployed 75% of its combat forces to Ukraine. You put these two pieces of info together and it shows the Russians are a pathetic military power. They absolutely do not qualify as a great power, and are even questionable as a middle power. The only reason they command any respect, such as it is, is because they have thousands of nukes. That's it. Nothing else.

Today the Commandant of the US Marine Corps also gave an assesment of the Ukrainian army. Essentially they are fighting brilliantly, and are now rewriting the textbook on how a smaller and weaker army defends territory against a larger and more powerful invader. He especially credited the Ukrainians with demonstrating tremendous military leadership, organization, coordination, tactics, and tenacity, and apparently the US military has already informed their counterparts in Taiwan they should closely study the Ukrainian army if they ever want to be able to defend their land against invasion.

Speaking of China, here are two great stories today about how the vaunted *alliance* between China and Russia is not quite what it seems after all:

LoL Arnold as consistent as ever.   He went from a tough guy Nixon/Reagan Republican to a cliche Hollywood liberal Democrat almost overnight.

Here's a transcript from Putin's latest statement in any case:

Spoiler
Quote

The operation of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine is developing successfully, strictly in accordance with plans.

The tactics of the Russian Defense Ministry in Ukraine have fully justified themselves, everything is being done to avoid civilian casualties. Before the operation began, Moscow offered Kiev to withdraw troops from Donbass, but they refused. All the tasks set will certainly be solved.

If Russian troops had stopped at the borders of the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics, this would not have been the final solution, it would not have removed the threat to Russia. Russia is not going to occupy Ukraine. There was no task to storm major cities.

The strike on Donetsk on March 14 is a bloody terrorist attack. Russia will not allow Ukraine to remain a springboard for anti-Russian actions. The whole planet has to pay for the ambitions of the West, the myth of the “golden billion” is collapsing. The West is trying to convince its citizens that their difficulties are the result of Russia’s actions, but this is a lie.

Sanctions against the Russian Federation are hitting the Europeans and Americans themselves, “it is not necessary to shift from a sick head to a healthy one.” The US and the EU actually defaulted on their obligations to Russia, freezing its reserves – now everyone knows that the state’s reserves can simply be stolen. Russia – unlike Western countries – will respect the right of ownership. Arrests of foreign assets of the Russian Federation and business – a lesson for Russian entrepreneurs, there is nothing more reliable than investments at home We now know who cowardly betrayed their partners and failed to fulfill their obligations to employees.

Trying to “cancel” Russia, the West has torn off all the masks of decency. I am sure that after blocking the accounts of the Russian Federation in the West, many countries will convert their reserves into goods, which will increase the deficit. It is obvious that the current events draw a line under the global dominance of Western countries both in politics and in the economy. Moreover, they themselves question the economic model that has been imposed on developing countries in recent decades. Yes, in general, the whole world.

I emphasize that the sanctions obsession of the United States and its supporters is not shared by countries where more than half of the world’s population lives. It is these states that represent the fastest growing, most promising part of the global economy, including Russia.

The “empire of lies” of the West is powerless against truth and justice, Russia will continue to bring its position to the whole world The West relies on the fifth column, national traitors, such mentally are there, in the West, and not in Russia. The West is trying to split our society, speculating on combat losses, on the consequences of sanctions.  The people will be able to distinguish patriots from scum and traitors and just spit them out like a fly that accidentally flew in. The natural self-purification of society will strengthen our country

@kanisatha I have heard that Russia has only committed 10% of its forces in Ukraine.  I mean they are basically a military economy and have been arming up for several years now so I kind of have a hard time believing that they're slowing down in any way shape or form but if that makes white Westerners sleep better at night....

It's 75% of Russia's 'deployable' army, and yeah, that's highly up to interpretation. If they dipped into reserves it's ~10%. Same type of figures you see for tanks- 10% of Russian tanks destroyed. Well kind of, it's just that Russia has something ludicrous like 10x that number in reserve.

Also, Dear BBC, I'm not sure your reports on the devastation of civilian areas carry quite as much weight when you're literally following Ukrainian soldiers around and show them, well, sheltering under a civilian medium rise.

Lack of progress is... well kind of. The trouble is that the lack of progress is double edged. Supposedly there are ~14k Ukrainian troops bottled up in Mariupol. And with two brigades there + Azov that figure is not overtly unrealistic (personally, I suspect it's rather less). What happens when Mariupol is taken or surrendered? That's 14,000 Ukrainian troops gone, more than twice the claimed Russian losses, at a stroke. And it frees up a bunch of Russian/ DPR troops too. Russian tactics are clearly to do exactly what worked in Aleppo, and it did work. Get the enemy to break cover and obliterate them with artillery.

Edited by Zoraptor
Posted

Whoever BBC follows or not follow and wherever Ukrainian troops hide or not, it's not them who are responsible for civilian deaths. They are not killing those civilians. Russian army is killing them.

The only Ukrainians the Russians are killing in Mariupol are civilians--women and children. Thus, even if Mariupol "falls," it won't actually fall, in that the Russians may occupy the city but won't control it and no Ukrainian soldiers will be surrendering or getting captured as a result. The Russians are getting their worthless ass handed to them by the Ukrainians. They are angry and bitter about how this makes them look. So, the pathetic cowards that they are, they're resorting to slaughtering women and children to feel like they're big, strong men.
