RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS
In Spec Ops: The Line, you did have a choice. You could have just died. I get the criticism over the white phosphorus, but I also appreciate what the developer was trying to do. The game's narrative is all about travelling deeper into the heart of darkness, and forcing your hand there is a part of that. If they let you be the good guy the whole way through, it doesn't have the same effect.

I'm not sure why the guy would bother playing games then.

If Senran Kagura is a representation of Japanese sexuality, then Brazzers is a representation of American sexuality. In reality they are both extremely exaggerated, and really shouldn't be taken so seriously by either of you clowns. And I mean clowns in the nicest way possible.

edit: I overloaded on the snark. But I'm still not sure KaineParker should be our spokesperson on Japanese sexuality.

Volo has been hacked! I've never seen him actually post an image before. It's also filled with swear words, and I know such an upstanding member of the community would never purposefully create problems for the mods. I'll report it so hopefully he can get his account back.

Given the game, the comment is hardly a surprise. It's a pretty silly game, so I don't know why such a thing would be taken seriously. Although KP's little Japanese culture lecture is a bit much.

Everything's Great - An anti-whinge Part 1
Black Cauldron was awesome, and basically turned me into an avid reader at a young age. Well, the movie and the Sierra adventure game. That could be a pretty awesome remake, actually. The Black Cauldron was the first game I remember that had more than one ending.

Yes, lets compare a group that actively engage in genocide to a bunch of weirdos who like to type in caps on twitter.

True Confession: I've never seen the original because IT looked terrible to me when I saw the trailers in the theaters back in the day. It has Patrick Swayze, Keanu Reaves, and Gary Busey. It's worth it just to watch those guys basically being themselves.

The Point Break remake looks terrible.

Everything's Great - An anti-whinge Part 1
To be fair, the 'what you did today' thread is a very positive thread filled with both lighthearted stories from the day, and supportive posts when life gets hard. It has been going on forever. But yeah, we do have a pretty strong contingent of negative nellies lately.

Everything's Great - An anti-whinge Part 1
Heh, yes, that is a huge leg up. I worked my way through college and I'm still paying off one of my loans for tuition (10 years into my career.) I'm extremely thankful that my parents were able to help out with part of it. I would be struggling under even more debt without that.

That is exactly what an alien sympathizer would say.

They kill birds, don't they?
Maybe Walsingham wasn't being sarcastic about the story, because these types of events are important to me. They show that ISIS isn't just waging a war against states, they are waging a war against culture and history. It's the reason I hated the Taliban before it was cool to do so. http://www.nytimes.com/2001/03/19/world/19TALI.html

Everything's Great - An anti-whinge Part 1
Meshugger is a winner. I do think that people lack proper historical context too often. And honestly, if you want to get the Patriot act and all this NSA stuff to change, start a movement. We live in a democracy, you can change stuff by raising awareness and putting societal pressure on the government. That's why gay people are getting married. Always remember that in the US: 90 years ago women could not vote. 70 years ago we stuck a bunch of American citizens in prison camps for being of Japanese descent. 50 years ago we segregated our schools. 40 years ago we still forced young men into the military. 30 years ago our economy was actually worse. 20 years ago we had a don't ask don't tell policy in the military. 10 years ago Osama was still playing video games in his crib. Ok so I ran out of steam at the end there. But yeah.

I agree that the movement for more accountability in journalism has seen progress, and I think that is a great thing. But when are we at the point of diminishing returns? It seems like the decent sites have clarified themselves, the bad sites have been exposed, and now we are at the point where it is just angry people making angry faces at one another with not much else left to gain.

What you did today
Given the 3 day weekend and a bit of a less hectic schedule now that the school year is almost done, I got some projects done around the home. I recaulked the shower, fixed a gate latch that had broken off in a bad storm, put up a collapsible trellis gate to keep our dog in the backyard, and cut back some branches that were hanging over the garage. I only cut myself twice whacking away at the branches, so I'm pretty happy with that. I feel very manly.
