I also found it was a lot easier to play Elex with a controller.

I had some fun TB battles in Tactics, but at the end of the day it wasn't nearly as good as JA2 at what it was trying to do.

Yep. I'm always surprised how hard it is to find something that isn't MA on Netflix and Amazon. I like a good serious show now and then, but when I'm putting my feet up in the family room after a long day, I'm usually just looking for something fun to watch that I don't have to exit out of when a kid wanders by. Hulu saves the day with that, since I can watch Brooklyn 99 and The Orville.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying, particularly making quality TV instead of event TV and keeping it simple. But I will say that Breaking Bad is a once in a generation type show, so that is probably too high a bar to set. I also think Rome and Deadwood were perfect as limited run shows. In fact I wish we had a lot more 2-3 season shows instead of all these long running ones. I also just want most of my TV to be fun. We need more Psych, Monk, and Veronica Mars.

Also a fan of Jeremy Irons, but I can't for the life of me think of anything that HBO has done recently that wasn't excellent. Westworld, GoT, True Detectives, Silicon Valley, Ballers...

I've got a major car headache situation. My father-in-law had a 20-year old GMC truck. It needs major work, and it is a year behind on registration. But it is a nice big truck, we have the title, and it runs. It will cost $300 to catch up on the fees, and then probably another $250 to register it for the next year. Getting it running well will probably cost anywhere from $500-$1000. It is probably worth $500 if I sell it to a junkyard. My mother-in-law has a 15-year old Ford Expedition. It needs some work, but is running and has current registration. But she took out a loan against it a couple years ago and is currently paying it off with a high interest rate. She owes at least double what it is worth, and will not be clear of that debt for years. It's also a more complicated vehicle, so the work that needs to be done to it is pricey. Long-term, it will probably cost much more to maintain than the truck. It is probably worth $2000, and she owes $5600. With my father-in-law passing away, we need to bring down expenses. We have three options: 1. Get rid of both. I have my commuter car, and my wife and mother-in-law can share our family SUV (Ford Flex). My mother-in-law does take the kids to school and back, so it would be tricky logistically, but we could make it work. That would save the most money, about $300 a month on the loan and insurance, and that isn't counting maintenance. 2. Get rid of the truck. Easiest transition short term, since no one is using it and it needs the most amount of work and money to get running. But a truck is a very useful vehicle to have for us. We may need to move in the next year or two, we have a trailer it can tow, it's easy to throw bikes into, etc. Plus it is owned outright and isn't going to get us much if we sell it. 3. Get rid of the Expedition. It's costing $150 a month at minimum to pay down the loan on it. It will be expensive to maintain over time. We already have a large family car. It's a gas guzzler. But it is my mother-in-laws car and she is emotionally attached to it. It will also be complicated to get rid of because of the loan. She can default on it, it isn't like her credit score is a big worry, she is on Social Security and living under our roof. But it is still not going to be fun to deal with the loan company. So yeah, that's my situation. Please vote on option 1-3.

Oh yeah, soccer is plenty popular as an activity in the US. I mean it's a pretty standard sport to play as a kid, and there are plenty of recreational adult leagues where I live. Indoor Soccer does pretty well too. But why would a league that takes place in a different country have any real popularity when there are plenty of local options to choose from? It will be interesting to see if the MLS grows well enough in the next decade or two to attract better American athletes to the sport. That's what happened with the NHL expansion when I was growing up, and now you have a pretty solid core of young American players that can compete at the highest level in hockey.

That is correct. It's basically a small niche in an overloaded sports market. You have American Football, baseball, basketball, hockey, Nascar, golf, and tennis all getting more attention.

You can't really go wrong with 4-6, but 4 will be the steepest learning curve. I would say 5 is the easiest to jump into. There are also a load of expansions with each one, some being dramatically different, like Colonization.

I just started Orville and it is fantastic. It reminds me of when I used to watch TNG in High School, but with a bit more humor. It definitely scratches my Star Trek itch.

With SonicMage coming back, my father-in-law passing away is only the 2nd worst thing to happen this week.

I enjoyed the Prey ending. I am playing Elex for the first time. Bit of a learning curve, but things are starting to some together. Just hit level 9 and I am starting to feel ok about exploring. Also not sure how much Elex I can take without affecting my emotions too much. I want to feel!

Yeah, those TOR trailers were amazing. Deceived is probably the first trailer I've watched over and over again.

My father-in-law passed away yesterday, so we are dealing with the arrangements. The plan is to inter his ashes in a Triumph motorcycle gas tank that he has always kept around. At first it sounded a bit silly, but the guy was a lifelong mechanic and had a stable of old bikes he worked on. It's a beautiful gas tank, so hopefully that will work. When he moved in with us, the only thing he was worried about bringing were his two massive tool carts. I made a pretty good workshop area in the garage for him. Yesterday I was under my RV, using his tools to fix a running board, when I got the news that his heart had given out.
